Funeral services for Larry Donell Ervin will be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Wade Ervin will officiate the service.
Mr. Ervin was born July 13, 1950, in Darlington County, a son of the late Bozie and Ruth LeVan Ervin. He was educated in the public schools of the county and graduated from Butler High School in 1969. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country honorably for more than 18 years. After separating from the military he worked for a number of years at the American Red Cross and Kaiser Permanente as a senior computer operator. On Aug. 25, 1989, he married
the former Vanessa Sanders in Alexandria, Va. He was a lifelong member of Jerusalem Baptist Church and later joined Galilee Baptist Church in Suitland, Md. At Galilee, he served at as the Vice–President of the Usher Board.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Vanessa Ervin of Temple Hills, Md; two daughters, Kendra Ervin of Hartsville and Taneka Robin Layne–Ervin of Temple Hills, Md.; two sons, Eric Ervin of Detroit, Mich., and Brandon Ervin of Temple Hills, Md.; five sisters, Daisy Weaver of Hartsville, Mary (the Rev. Covel) Moore of Conway, Margaret McCray and Doris (Harvey) Scott, both of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and Shervia (Charles) Randall of Chicago, Ill.; five brothers, Robert (Sandra) Ervin of Hartsville, Charles (Corine) Ervin of Columbia, the Rev. Wade (Mary) Ervin and Willie Ervin both of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and James (Willie Mae) Ervin of Phoenix, Ariz.; his father–in–law, Harvey Lee (Ernestine) Campbell of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters–in–law, Comaneka Sanders of Detroit, Mich. and Sgt. Maj. Pamela Morrison of El Paso, Texas; her brother–in–law, Leonard Anderson of Winona, Miss.; seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and very dear friends.
ELEANOR S. MOORE
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A crypt side service for Eleanor Smith Moore, 91, was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Park cemetery with entombment following, directed by Sunset Funeral Home of San Antonio, Texas.
Ms. Moore passed away Monday, Jan. 17, after a long illness. She was born March 14, 1913, to Gary Boyd Smith and Clara Gardner Smith in Mullins. She was a talented lady with skill and imagination. She lived most of her life in South Carolina, both in Hartsville and the Pee Dee until she came to live with her only daughter in 1991 in San Antonio.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Tumlinson and her husband, Lee; three grandsons, David Mims, Stephen Mims and wife Linda and Greg Mims and wife Susan; three great–grandchildren, Jessica Mims, Matt Mims and wife Christine and Samantha Mims; one great–grandchild, Christian Mims; and one sister, Kathleen Blackman of Hartsville; two beloved nieces, Beth Blackman and Kathleen Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Joseph Arlen Smith, and her husband, Benjamin W. Moore.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, Animal Defense League or a charity of your choice.
GERTRUDE CHERRY
Funeral services for Gertrude Ings Cherry were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Marshall Ivey officiating. Burial followed in St. John United Methodist Church cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc.
Mrs.ĘCherry was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Mack Ings on Feb. 22, 1913. She was educated in the public schools of the county. She was married
to the late Leon Cherry and this union was blessed with 11 children. Ten of her children survive her.
Sweet, as her family and friends affectionately called her, was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker for all of her life. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing her delicious meals with her family. Mrs. Cherry was an outspoken person and could have wonderful conversation with anyone. She also enjoyed working in her garden and produced many beautiful flowers. One of her favorite pastimes was listening to gospel music.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her eight daughters Berdie Cherry and Jacquelyn Pearson both of Hartsville, Elizabeth Cherry of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dorothy (Walter) Murphy and Gertrude Robinson, both of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Carolyn Cherry and Rosa Mosley both of Bronx, N.Y., Patricia (Leo) Richardson of Canton, Ohio; two sons, Charles Cherry of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Leon (Martha) Cherry of Charlotte, N.C.; her sister, Margaret Ings of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Bonnie (Alice) Ings and Clarence (Emma) Ings both of Philadelphia, Pa.; her sister–in–law, Irene James of Philadelphia, Pa.; her brother–in–law, Johnny Johnson of Greensboro, N.C.; 29 grandchildren; 50 great–grandchildren; nine great–great–grandchildren; other close relatives and very dear friends.
BRUCE SOLOMON
Mr. Bruce Solomon of Capital Heights, Md., formally of Lynchburg, S.C., died on Friday, Jan. 14. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Lamar.

Ms. Ethel Gordon died on Saturday, Jan. 15, in a Columbia health care facility after a short illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville.
PAUL P.H. BECKHAM
DARLINGTON — Memorial services for Paul P.H. Haskell Beckham, 81, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Beckham died Saturday, Jan. 15, in a local hospital. He was born in Lanes, , son of the late Sam C. and Ada Robinson Beckham. He served his country in the United States Army, participating in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was the recipient of numerous awards. He was a member of the S.C. Army National Guard from 1949 to 1968 as AST and was the general manager of Southeastern Recon, a division of Clanton's from 1968 to 1984. Mr. Beckham was a Shriner, Omar Temple and life member of St. David's Lodge. He was a lifetime member of Central Baptist Church and the Harper Bible Class. He will be remembered for his love of God, family, friends, golf and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Tedder Beckham of Darlington; three sons, Mike (Barbara) Beckham, Ted (Vera) Beckham, both of Darlington and Melvin Beckham of Hendersonville, N.C.; granddaughter, Ashton Beckham; three step–grandsons; one step–granddaughter; three step–great–grandchildren; and two brothers, L. W. Dusty Beckham of Darlington and Theron Beckham of Winchester, Ky.

DOROTHY E. CLARK
Graveside funeral services for Dorothy Euten Clark, 65, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, in Grove Hill cemetery, officiated by Rev. Todd Parrish and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Clark died Wednesday, Jan. 12, in a local hospital. She was born in Lee County, daughter of the late Henry and Roxie Hill Euten. Mrs. Clark was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Clark of California and Wayne Clark of North Carolina; two daughters Shirley Clark and Chelsea Clark, both of Hartsville; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Blackwell and Marilee Matuse, both of Hartsville.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by a son, Everett Clark.
MYRTLE HALL
Graveside services for Myrtle Driver Hall, 83, were held at 11 a.m Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Westview Memorial Park cemetery. The Rev. Ed Griggs officiated, directed by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hall died Tuesday, Jan. 11. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Heyward and Addie Goddale Driver Sr. She was a member of Whispering Pines Baptist Church and was retired from the cone department at Sonoco after 30 years.
Surviving are her nieces, Daphney Hulsey of Atlanta, Ga., Sybil Gandy of Hartsville; and a nephew, Tommy Norton of Hartsville.
TONY A. BRANDON
BLACK ROCK — Funeral services for Tony Allen Siggin Brandon, 37, were held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Graveside Oak Forest cemetery, Black Rock with Harold Russell officiating, directed by House–Gregg Funeral Homes, Walnut Ridge & Lynn, Ark..
Mr. Brandon died Wednesday, Jan. 12. He was born in Flint, Mich., and lived in Hartsville for several years before moving back to Black Rock five years ago. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Gene Brandon, infant brother Edward Brandon, his grandmother Lucille Brandon and one nephew, Amos Wils.
Survivors are his wife, Debbie Brandon of the home; one daughter, Ashley Stallings Brandon of Walnut Ridge, Ark.; mother, Patricia A. Brandon of Black Rock; eight sisters, Linda Duncan of Black Rock, Pecoy Gond of Powhatae, Anna Baty of Walnut Ridge, Kathy Brandon of Slack Rock, Wanda Rice of Black Rock, Patty Douglas of Hoxie, Rosanna Fuller of Jonesboro and Lavanna Rutherford of Hoxie; and two brothers, Adam Lash of Jesup and Tommy Brandon of Hoxie.
Pallbearers were Dale Bady Jr., John Fleming, Eugene Jackson, Shannon Passmore, Jeremy Brady, Clinton House, J.R. Douglas and Nathan Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers were Stevie Wineland, Don Fuller and Dale Brady Sr.
Local announcements were handled by Brown–Pennington–Atkins Funeral Home.

TEMPLE HILL, Md. — Larry Donnell Ervin, formerly of Hartsville, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital in Washington, D.C. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Daisy Weaver of 314 Russell Road.
RUDOLPH K. TIMMONS
Funeral services for Rudolph Kelvin Timmons, 53, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Harold L. & Dorothy L. Young Memorial Chapel with burial following in McKnight cemetery in the Evergreen Community, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Timmons died Thursday, Jan. 13, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was born in Darlington County, a son of the late King Solomon and Cora Lee McCall Timmons. He received his education in the Darlington County public school system.
Surviving are two sons, Rayshon Timmons and Crayshon Timmons, both of Landham, Md.; three sisters, Carolyn T. Ellerbee of Hartsville, Nancy (James Allen) Timmons of Lamar, Rosazella (Joe Wilson) Hough of Charlotte, N.C., and Sylvia Ann Timmons of Florence; two brothers, Jimmy Lee (Linda) Timmons of Lamar and Larry Thomas (Mary Alice) Timmons of Hartsville; one grandchild; nieces;nephews and a host of close relatives and friends.
JOSEPHINE HOLMAN
SOCIETY HILL — Funeral services for Josephine Holman, 60, were held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at St. John Temple Holiness Church with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Holman died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in Medford Nursing Center after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Joseph and Theo Benjiman Graham. She received her education in the Darlington County public school system and was a member of St. John Temple Holiness Church.
Surviving are two daughters, JoJean Bishop of Cheraw and Jannie Mae Holman of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Robert Holman of Lebanon, Va., and James Allen Holman Jr. of Society Hill; one sister, Amanda Leigh Graham of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Henry Graham of Cheraw; two special friends, Lucille Drayton of Society Hill and Francis James; nine grandchildren; four great–grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
LAVERN LEDFORD
DARLINGTON — Lavern N. Ledford, 73, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 19, at Central Baptist Church with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Ledford was born in Langley, son of the late Esper N. and Ruby B. Ferrell Ledford.
He served in the U. S. Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict and had retired from DuPont. He had operated a front–end alignment shop and was Baptist in faith.
Surviving are four daughters, Debbie (Willie) Galloway of Darlington, Tina (Butch) Owens of Summerville, Teri (J. M.) Culick of Olanta and Laura (Billy) Avery of Panama City, Fla.; grandchildren, Stacy Bailey, Travis (Elizabeth) Galloway, Christie (Austin) Doriety, David (Casey) Strickland, Brandi Lee, Mary A. Calcutt, Paul Calcutt, Teri Lynn Calcutt, Jennifer (John) Cherry, Amber Morrell, and Joshua Morrell; two sisters, Sandra (Phillip) DeBerry of John's Island, Sara (Pinky) Owens of Charleston; a brother, Johnny (Sandra) Ledford of New Orleans, La.; great–grandchildren, Amber Doriety, Hunter Doriety, Macey Doriety, Hunter Lee, and Makayla White; also, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Jim Cox.
Mr. Ledford was preceded in death by a sister, Sherri Clark.
