MCFADDEN, Samuel
PAWLEYS ISLAND - Services for Major Samuel Edward McFadden, U. S. Army, (Ret.), 88, will be held 3 o’clock, Sunday, December 1, 2002 at the graveside in Waccamaw Cemetery at All Saints Parish, Pawleys Island, S.C., with full military honors. The family will receive friends following the service at the family home at 319 Rossdhu Lane, Pawleys Island. Memorials may be made to the Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 7275, Columbia, SC 29202. Mr. McFadden died Friday, November 29, 2002. Born in Chester, SC, he was the son of the late Samuel Edward McFadden and Ethel Means McFadden, both natives of Chester, SC. Mr. McFadden attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a law degree in 1939. He then practiced law in Chester for a short period until entering the Army Air Corps in early 1941. He served during WW II as a pilot until 1946. He then returned to South Carolina to practice law and was elected to a two-year term in the South Carolina Legislature. During this time he flew with the South Carolina Air National Guard at the then Congaree Air Base. In 1950, at the beginning of the Korean War, he was called back into service with the United States Air Force and served until 1965 when he retired. From 1965 until 1977 he was engaged in the real estate business at the Litchfield Beaches and Pawleys Island, South Carolina. He retired in 1977 and lived at Pawleys Island until the time of his death.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Keenan McFadden to whom he was marred in 1973 and stepchildren, Catherine K. Mayo of Spartanburg, Andrew C. M. Keenan, William J. Keenan and Dean L. Keenan, all of Columbia; nine grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
RISHER, Margaret
Margaret McNeill Risher, 84, died Friday, November 29, 2002, at her home at 1010 Arden Way after a brief illness. A native of Union, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Mattison and Emily Merritt McNeill. She was a 1939 graduate of Columbia College, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for almost 40 years. She was a charter member of the Mary Black Hospital Auxiliary and had been a hospital volunteer since 1966. Mrs. Risher was a member of the Spartanburg Garden Club, and was an avid bridge player, belonging to two duplicate bridge clubs.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Harold Boyd Risher; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Harold Risher, Sr. and Dianne Horton Risher of Hilton Head Island, SC; a grandson, Thomas Harold Risher, Jr. and his wife Jennifer Brooks Risher of Chicago, IL; a granddaughter, Ashley Risher Hahn and her husband Michael J. Hahn of Bluffton, SC; two nephews reared in the home, Thomas Ansel McNeil and his wife Mary Elizabeth McNeill of Boiling Springs, SC, and George Terrance McNeill and his wife Mary Katherine McNeill of Monroe, GA; nieces, Nancy McDonald Hardee and Margaret McDonald Elliott and her husband Paul Glenn Elliott, Sr.; ten nephews; three nieces; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Thomas Ansel McNeill, Andrew Merritt McNeill, Adelaide McNeill McDonald, and Helen Elaine McNeill.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2002, at Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Paul W. Harmon. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and family following the service at the home, 1010 Arden Way, Spartanburg.
Active pallbearers will be Paul J. Cote’, Paul Glenn Elliott, Jr., Jacob M. Elliott, Michael J. Hahn, Donald Kent Jenkins, Thomas Kevin Jenkins, and Robert P. Richardson, Jr.

Eleanor Belle Williams Hankerson, 76, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Charleston, S.C. passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2002. Born in Waynesboro, Ga., she was a 1946 graduate of Spelman College. She was a teacher for 20 years in the Burke County, Ga. public school system and for 20 years in the Newark, N.J., public school system. A member of St. James Presbyterian Church of Charleston, S.C., she is survived by three children, Porter James, Jr. and his wife, Pauline, of Hephzibah, Ga., Kenneth Wayne and his wife, Patricia, of Los Angeles, Calif., and P. Dianne and her life partner, Rose, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Donna Williams of Evans, Ga., Korey Williams of Augusta, Ga. and Porter James Hankerson, III of Hephzibah, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Klara and Nia Carter of Evans, Ga. and Khiah Williams of Augusta, Ga.; an a host of other relatives and friends. Elijah Massey, Jr., 81, a retired crane operator of the Charleston Naval Shipyard, and husband of Ernestine Gibbs Massey, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the V.A. Medical Center in Charleston, S.C.
