NETTLES, Sr., Richard
LAKE CITY - Mr. Richard McBride "Mack" Nettles, Sr., 66, died Monday, June 3, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Nettles was born in Lake City, a son of the late Richard W. and Letha Poston Nettles. He was a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy, a retired Captain of the Charleston Naval Weapons Station Fire Department, and a retired engineer of the Lake City Fire Department. He was a volunteer Lieutenant with the Lake City Fire Department and a volunteer Captain of the former Lake City Rural Fire Department. He was a Baptist and former member of the S.C. National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Poston Nettles of Lake City; three sons, Garry (Karen) McCutcheon of Surfside Beach, Richard M. (Tammy) Nettles, Jr. of Lamar and David (Lisa) Malone of Lake City; one daughter, Cindy (Charlie) Foster of Pensacola, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Kerri, Kirby, Zachery, Tosha, Michael, Whitney, Lauren, Kaitlin, Heather, Jennifer, Amy and Emily; and 2 great-grandchildren, Allison and Autumn.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Calvary Baptist Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park.

The family will have visitation from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home.

Mr. Richardson was born in Charleston, S.C., a son of Louis L., Sr. and Florence Ethel J. Richardson. He was a Maintenance Mechanic for Systems Contracting and a member of Ocean Grove United Methodist Church. He was an avid sportsman and a shrimper for 30 years.
Surviving are his mother of Awendaw, S.C., one daughter, Anita Louise Herron of Aiken, S.C., one son, Louis Lamar Richardson, III of Goose Creek, S.C., two step-sons, Charles E. Lilly and Jerry E. Lilly, both of Aiken, S.C., two sisters, June Preast of Sumter, S.C. and Janet Lofton of Macedonia, S.C., one half-sister, Margie Cory of Charleston, S.C., one brother, Edward A. Richardson of Awendaw, S.C., seven grandchildren, Charles D. Lilly of Aiken, S.C., Preston Richardson of Goose Creek, S.C., Ashley M. Judy and Cassie Judy of Aiken, S.C., Amanda L. Richardson and Jessie M. Richardson, both of Goose Creek, S.C., and Max R. Herron, Jr., of Aiken, S.C. He was also survived by Marie Richardson of Huger, S.C.

Born December 22, 1932 in Wilmington, N.C., Mr. Stewart was the son of the late LeRoy and Nellie Mae Bergman Stewart. He was a veteran of the S.C. National Guard with over 42 years of service, a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 404 from 1968 to 1972, a member of the Board of Officers Sumter Guards, a member of the Washington Light Infantry and recipient of The Palmetto Award, 1990 and the Order of Silver Crescent. He also received two Army Commendation Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, a National Guard Exceptional Service Medal, was the recipient of the Sumter Guard Honor Ring, and received special recognition from the S.C. Senate and House of Representatives. Mr. Stewart was a member of Cooper River Baptist Church.
Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Lanelle H. Stewart of N. Charleston; a daughter, Dayle Hatcher (David) of N. Charleston; two sons, Danny Stewart of N. Charleston and Dewayne Stewart (Rhonda) of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, David Hatcher, Jr. and Eleanor Hatcher; two step-grandchildren, Ashley Miller and Whitney Street; two step-great-grandchildren, Samuel Miller and Ashley Miller; three brothers, Arvid L. Stewart of Hanahan, John C. Stewart of Charleston and Ray C. Stewart of Madison, Wisconsin.

BOWZARD, Virgil
HOLLY HILL- Mr. Virgil Capos Bowzard, 80, of 656 Gardner Blvd., Holly Hill, died Monday in a Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 in the CHAPEL OF AVINGER FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Earl Behr officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill cemetery.
Mr. Bowzard was born in Holly Hill a son of the late John S. Bowzard and Lila Bess Moorer Bowzard. He was a retired chief from the Navy having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Athalie B. "Leah" Bowzard of Holly Hill; sister-in-law, Evelyn Bowzard of San Diego, Calif. and Jewel K. Bowzard of Moncks Corner; caregivers, Johnny and Libby Bowzard of Holly Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

INDIANTOWN - Elizabeth Ann Gamble Cusack, wife of Herbie Cusack, Jr., died Sunday in a Charleston hospital. Mrs. Cusack was 49.
Mrs. Cusack was born in Kingstree, a daughter of Belver Scott Gamble and the late Thomas D. Gamble, Jr. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and attended Coker College. Mrs. Cusack was co-owner of Indiantown Market and was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband of Indiantown; her mother of Kingstree; 1 daughter, Hailey W. Wilson of Kingstree; 1 sister, Eva Towne Saltik of Marietta, Ga.; 1 brother, Thomas D. Gamble, III of Nesmith; 1 granddaughter, Evie Wilson of Kingstree; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church directed by WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME. GRASSIE, Susanelliott
Susanelliott Grassie, 42, of Goose Creek, S.C., died June 2, 2002 in a local hospital. Born May 15, 1960, in Charleston, she was the daughter of Mary White Grassie and the late Major Richard F. Grassie, Jr. of the Charleston County Police Department. For a number of years, Miss Grassie was Administrative Assistant to the vice president of an oil company in Boston, Mass. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. Surviving are her grandmother, Thelma Elliott White, Charleston; her mother; two brothers, Richard F. Grassie, III and James E. C. Grassie, both of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Laurie G. Hougland, Anderson, S.C.; one niece, Sarah K. Crane; one nephew, James E.C. Grassie, Jr., Mt. Pleasant; two aunts, one uncle, and one great-aunt. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 5, 2002, 3 p.m. at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, EAST COOPER CHAPEL, 1520 Rifle Range Road, 884-3833, burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
