MCCUE, Louise
Louise Patricia "Ms. Pete" McCue of Snee Farm, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., formerly a registered nurse for over 30 years, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, in a local hospital.
"Ms. Pete" as she was known to most of her friends in Charleston, was born October 3, 1926, near Clearspring, Md. She was the daughter of the late Jennie Venette Repp Poole and John William Poole, and was preceded in death by her husband, John Earl McCue, three brothers, Robert, Alfred and Elmer Poole, and two sisters, Dorotha Faust and Vera Toston. She is survived by one brother, Woodrow Poole of Clearspring, Md., a son, George C. McCue and his wife, Patti, of Tupelo, Miss., a daughter, Karen M. Paulick and her husband Bill, of Juneau, Alaska, and one grandchild, Kristina Paulick.
"Ms. Pete" was best known for her volunteer work at the former Charleston Naval Hospital and most particularly at the Sandpiper Convalescent Center in Mt. Pleasant. In 1992, she received the S.C. State Health Care Association Volunteer of the Year Award, and was inducted into the WCSC (Channel 5) Hall of Fame for her volunteer work.
The funeral will be private. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, from 4:30 until 7:00 o'clock.

GILLIKIN, Harry
Harry Etheridge Gillikin Sr. of Hardeeville, S.C. 81, died Friday, July 19, 2002 in the Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA after a long illness.
He was born in Morehead City, NC on July 14, 1921; son of the late Harry L. Gillikin and Blanche Salter Gillikin of Beaufort, NC.
He was educated at the Mars Hill College, North Carolina. A U.S. Navy World War II veteran. Retired from Ansor Corp., Wall Street, New York City for many years. During this time he traveled to foreign countries as a troubleshooter in Ansor's frozen food division. These countries included Borneo, West Africa, Pakistan, India and South America. Following this he became self-employed as a Seafood Broker in Miami, FL. Later he became involved with the country of West Africa in a government joint venture to develop seafood industries. He retired becoming a self-employed seafood boat owner. He was a member of South Atlantic Fishery Management Council. He was a member of the Welcome Home Freewill Baptist Church, Bettie, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Verna Nettles Gillikin of Hardeeville, S.C.; three sons, Harry E. Gillikin Jr. of Ridgeland, S.C.; Jon L. Gillikin of San Francisco, CA; and Ryan P. Gillikin of Boca Raton, FL; two stepsons, Greg Tolar of Charleston, S.C. and Charles Cooper of Mulberry, FL; one daughter, Teresa Gillikin of Chicago, IL; two stepdaughters, Donna Melogy of Fernandina, FL and Debra Tolar of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Dennard McDonald Gillikin of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; preceded in death by one brother, Carvie Gillikin of Beaufort, NC.; two sisters, Edith G. Pigott of Tarboro, NC and Dolena and Charles Bell of Beaufort, NC.; six grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; five brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2002 at SAULS FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL IN RIDGELAND, S.C. The family will receive visitors at their home on Stiney Road, Hardeeville, S.C. immediately following the service.
A second Memorial Service will be held in Bettie, North Carolina at a later date where the remains will be buried at the foot of his brother, Carvie Gillikin who was killed in action during World War II.

DUCKETT, Fred
Fred Hamilton Duckett, 72, of 400 Bonner Street, Aiken, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at ARMC.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2002, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Fred Andrea officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church cemetery.
Mr. Duckett is survived by his loving wife, Jane Rutland Duckett, one daughter, Lindy Duckett; Charleston, two sons, Randy Duckett, Aiken, Barry Duckett, Barnwell, seven grandchildren, Kelly Segars, Christy Segars, Matthew Duckett, Anna Duckett, Drew Duckett, Amy Duckett, Lisa Duckett, and three brothers, Colon Duckett, Union, S.C., Gene Duckett, Dennis Duckett, both of Cowpens, S.C. Mr. Duckett was preceded in death by a brother, Dillard Duckett.
Mr. Duckett was in the Air Force as a First Lieutenant during the Korean Conflict. He was a resident of Aiken for 45 years and was a retired Occupational Therapist with Alston Wilkes Society. Mr. Duckett was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Shortridge was born September 18, 1913, in San Francisco, Calif., the daughter of Eric Wilhelm Anderson and Ester Hassebroth Anderson. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church and a long-time resident of Walnut Creek, Calif.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth W. Shortridge, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; three grandchildren, Kenneth Alexander Shortridge, Elizabeth Ann Shortridge, and Megan Mincolla.

Harriett Marie Hileman, 64, died on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at her residence. Mrs. Hileman was born August 31, 1937 in Orangeburg, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Charlie G. and Rebie Hutto Croft. Mrs. Hileman was a Volunteer at Roper Hospital, and a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She was predeceased by her husband Lake Hileman. Mrs. Hileman is survived by her daughter, Laura Kinard, and husband Bruce M., two grandchildren, Brian Shinta and Justin Shinta all of Summerville, S.C., two brothers, Charles G. Croft, wife Mary E. and James M. Croft, wife Geneva B. and one sister Faye C. Brown, husband Wayne G. all of James Island, S.C. Henry Clifton Biering, 73, of 218 Graceland Dr., Moncks Corner, S.C., a retired draftsman for the Naval Weapons Station, died Friday in a North Charleston hospital.

Mr. Biering was born February 25, 1929, in Charleston, S.C., a son of Henry Adolph Biering and Caroline Elizabeth Britton Biering. Mr. Biering was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1949-1952 with tours of duty stateside, in Europe, and in North Africa. He retired from the Naval Weapons Station as a civil service employee involved in construction work in 1989. He was a graduate of Chicora High School, Charleston, S.C. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Biering was preceded in death by a son, Warren Keith Biering, a sister, Clara Brown, and three brothers, Louis Biering, Eugene Biering, and Julian Biering.
Surviving are, his wife, Joyce O. Biering; a son, David Anthony Biering of Greenville; two sisters, Pauline Wigle of Land O'Lakes, Fla., and Alberta Poole of Florence; a brother, Allen Rudolph Biering of Greenville; and a granddaughter, Tracy Marie Biering of Greenville.
