TRIEST, Caroline
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of July 18, 2002, Caroline L. Triest, residence, Charleston, S.C. There will be a private graveside service Friday, at K.K. Beth Elohim, Coming Street cemetery.
Miss Triest was born June 23, 1907, in Charleston, S.C., the youngest child of Montague Triest and Adelaide Israel Triest. She was a 1928 graduate of the College of Charleston, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Library Science from Emory University in 1933. She was a member of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim.
She retired from Charleston County Schools having been the librarian at Charleston High School on Rutledge Avenue for many years where she is fondly remembered by hundreds of Charleston High graduates.
She is survived by two nieces, Maxine Triest Freudenberg and her husband Henry of Charleston, S.C., and Mary Frances Pearlstine DeGrove of Tallahassee, Fla.; two great-nieces, Lynn F. Plait and Nancy F. Cherson of Atlanta, Ga.; one great-nephew, Larry W. Freudenberg of Charleston, S.C.; three great-great-nieces, Cara Freudenberg of Charleston, S.C., Marissa Cherson of Atlanta, Ga., and Lindsey Plait of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-great-nephews, Jeremy Cherson of Atlanta, Ga., and Stephen Triest Freudenberg of Charleston, S.C.

BENTON, Betty
WALTERBORO - Mrs. Betty Ruth Benton, 59, of Walterboro, died Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Doctor's Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, directed by the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Benton was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Cole Blease Benton, Sr., and Ida Mae Lemacks Benton. She was a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Hiers of Hamilton, Ohio, three brothers, Henry Benton of Walterboro, Cole Benton, Jr., of Jacksonville, Ala., and Allen Benton of Cumberland, Md., eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

PECK, Ann
Ann Knight Seay Peck, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, July 16, at a local hospital. Born in Lebanon, Tenn., to the late Daniel E. and Wilsey Wilson Seay. She was married
to the late James H. Peck. Mrs. Peck was a longtime former resident of Coral Gables, Fla., where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables, and over time served as chaplain, secretary, and finally president of the PEO sisterhood. Mrs. Peck was a graduate of the Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, receiving a degree as a Home Economist. After raising her family, Mrs. Peck returned to school and became a registered nurse. Surviving Mrs. Peck are her son, Robert L. Peck of Atlanta, Ga., four daughters, Nancy B. Shepherd of Richmond, Va., Bettie L. Pleasant of Charlotte, N.C., Ann K. Rohn of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mary P. Hewlette of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., three sisters, Elenora Seay Varney of Nashville, Tenn., Nancy Seay Miller of Augusta, Ga., and Frances Seay Wilson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be in Springfield, Tenn. WASHINGTON, D.C.- Entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 15, 2002, at the Washington Hospital Center, Mr. Atwood (Mac) McGinnis, the beloved father of Roger McGinnis, Maxine Allen (Donilo), Shelly McGinnis, Donna Jean McGinnis, Harold McGinnis (Wanda), all of Washington, D.C.; and beloved grandfather of Kevin McGinnis. He was also the beloved brother of Kathryn Rivers (Melvin) of Charleston; Evelyn Miller of San Antonio, Texas; Dorothy Talley of Charleston; and Hattie Gough (James) and Juanita Middleton (James), both of McClellanville.
Atwood McGinnis was born September 07, 1918, in McClellanville (in the Moss Swamp Section), the son of the late York and Hattie McGinnis. He owned and operated Bacardi's Grill No. 1, a Supper/Night Club on Dorchester Road, N. Charleston from 1946-1958 and Bacardi's Grill No. 2, Roger's Alley and King Street in the late 1950s. He later moved to Washington, D.C., opened and owned B & M carryout.
