CARNEY, Nellie
Nellie White Carney, 87, of Dorchester Road, N. Charleston, S.C. died Friday in a Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2002, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens, N. Charleston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. this Saturday evening.
Mrs. Carney was born Nov. 3, 1914, in Coward, S.C. She was preceded in death by a daughter, June U. Sweatman and a son, Frank Ulrich.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Carney; three grandchildren, Gloria S. Spann, Jimmie Dean Sweatman, and Kim S. Clarke; and six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
DeWITT, SR., Theron
Darlington- Theron L. DeWitt, Sr., 94, died Tuesday in a local hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Thursday, July 11 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery directed by BELK FUNERAL HOME. The family will receive friends in the church's Fellowship Hall immediately following the services.
Mr. DeWitt was born November 20, 1907 in Florence County the son of the late William Roland and Dora Cooper DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Lee Moore DeWitt in 1993. Mr. DeWitt graduated from Florence High School in 1926. In 1939 he and his family moved to a farm in the High Hill-Pine Grove community of Darlington County. In the ensuing years he became a successful farmer and businessman. The operation that he began was the foundation for DeWitt Farms, Inc. In addition to participating in agricultural and community organizations, Mr. DeWitt was an active member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He will be remembered for his kindness to his family and members of the community.
Surviving are two sons, Alvin E. (Betty Jordan) DeWitt of Darlington and Theron L. (Sharon Scott) DeWitt also of Darlington; two daughters, Mary "Polly" DeWitt (Henry G.) Hoffmeyer of Charleston and Jo Anne DeWitt (John L.) Sharpe of Hillsborough, NC; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Jones of Black Mountain, NC and Leora Ward of Effingham.

BARRACLOUGH, T.
Theodore (Ted) W. Barraclough was born in Mystic, CT. 10 October 1932 and was a longtime resident of Ledyard, CT. His wife, Constance, three children and three grandchildren survive him. He was a 1955 graduate of The University of Connecticut and in 1987 retired from General Dynamics/Electric Boat after a career in applied mathematics. After retirement he pursued his two passions, horticulture and genealogy. Please omit flowers. COLSON, John
WALTERBORO - Mr. John J. Colson, 69, of 175 Camelot Place, died Thursday at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. James Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Welch Creek Baptist cemetery.
Mr. Colson was born in Charleston County, a son of the late John R. Colson and Isabel Colson Colson. He was a retired Propane Gas Service manager and was a member of Bedon Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are a daughter, Beth C. Clifton of Walterboro and her husband Randy, two sons, Blaine Colson of Walterboro and his wife Audrea, and Ricky Colson of Walterboro and his wife Cindy, a sister, Lucy Droze of Ladson, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

HIPPS, Evelyn
Funeral services for Evelyn Funney Hipps formerly of Georgetown/Columbia, will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, at Bostick-Tompkins Funeral, with burial to follow in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Mrs. Hipps died on Monday, July 8, 2002, in Conyers, Ga. Born in Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Annie Gibbs Funney. She attended the public schools of Georgetown, and Columbia School of Nursing. She was a member of Assembly of Prayer Baptist Church in New York. While living in Columbia she attended Second Nazareth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, William J. Hipps; and a daughter, Henrietta Hipps.
Surviving are her son, Henry Hipps, Jr.; daughter, Thedra H. Bracey; daughter-in-law, Alfreda Hipps, sister, Elizabeth Scott; eight grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Billy Eugene "Candy Apple" Clark, 47, of Moncks Corner, S.C., a pipe fitter at the Kings Bay Naval Base, died Wednesday in Kingsland, GA.

Mr. Clark was born May 15, 1955, in Moncks Corner, S.C., a son of Travis E. Clark and Gwendolyn Driggers Clark. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and the Cross Hunting Club. He was the owner of Billy Clark Trucking. He was a graduate of Berkeley High School.
Surviving are, his wife Betty Jean Rush Clark; his parents of Moncks Corner; three daughters, Roni Clark and Sarah Driggers both of Moncks Corner, and Rhea Clark of Summerville; two sons, Shane (Kelly) Clark of Cross and Daniel Driggers of Moncks Corner; a sister, Debra Jean Gaskins of Moncks Corner.
