MCLENDON, Ann
WINNSBORO - Funeral services for Ann Welch McLendon, 79, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2002, at the graveside in the First United Methodist cemetery, conducted by Rev. Bruce Palmer and Rev. Bundy Bynum. The family will receive friends following the services at the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 109 W. College Street, Winnsboro, S.C. 29180, or to the American Cancer Society. POPE FUNERAL HOME is in charge.
Mrs. McLendon passed away Thursday, July 11, 2002. Born September 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Vivian Simpson Welch, Sr. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and was a long time employee of the Fairfield Manufacturing Company and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are, daughters, Carol Ann M. Jones of Greenville and Kathy M. Young and son-in-law, Ron Young of Clemson; brother, Albert S. Welch of Florence; four grandsons and their wives, Van and Ashley Jones of Gastonia, N.C., Mac and Nancy Jones of Greenville, Will and Michelle Young of Greenville and Kyle and Jamie Young of Clemson; one great-grandson, Brody Young of Greenville.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Kyle McLendon.
CARTER, Helen
WALTERBORO - Helen Jacobs Carter, 88, a retired school teacher and widow of W. Rudolph Carter, died Wednesday at Colleton Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at the graveside in Beaufort National cemetery, conducted by Rev. Lee Cothran and directed by the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Carter was born November 2, 1913, in Walterboro, a daughter of the late Max Jacobs and Mary Pate Jacobs. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Lula Strickland Circle. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, Class of 1933. She taught 40 years in the S.C. Public Schools - the last 28 of which was in Walterboro. She was chosen Walterboro Junior Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year in 1950.
Surviving is one nephew, Samuel Edenfield Jacobs of Marietta, Ga.

HARWELL, Steve
Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of July 10, 2002, Steve Harwell, husband of B.J. Harwell. Residence, Goose Creek, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Harwell are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in J. Mr. Harwell was born on July 18, 1937, in Gary, Ind., a son of the late William C. Harwell and Katie Wilson Harwell. He was retired as the Police Chief of Edisto Beach Police Department. Mr. Harwell also retired as a Technical Sergeant from the USAF with 18 years of service. He was a member of Edisto Beach Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of Goose Creek, S.C.; one daughter, Sherry Duncan, of Hanahan, S.C.; two step-daughters, Kelley Sinclair of Goose Creek, S.C., and Jody Charpia, of Summerville, S.C.; one step-son, Scott Burkhead, of Summerville, S.C.; one granddaughter, Mary Farmer, of Huger, S.C.; one step-grandson, Daniel Sinclair, of Goose Creek, S.C.; and one half-brother, Bobby Isgram, of Memphis, Tenn.

Wilbur Brodus Chavis 78, of Johns Island, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at a local hospital.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2002, 4 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Carolina Memorial Park. Born May 11, 1924, in Lexington County. He was the son of the late Nathan Chavis and Verna Lee Chavis Cooper.
Mr. Chavis was a retired self-employed Carpenter. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Johns Island Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Chavis was predeceased in death by his wife Rosa Mildred Chavis. He is survived by one daughter; Patricia Suggs, of Ravenel, five sons; James W. Chavis, of Johns Island. Larry R. Chavis, of Johns Island, Audrey O. Chavis, of James Island, Donald C. Chavis, of Johns Island, S.C. and Charles S. Chavis, of Johns Island. Four sisters; Ida Belle Peeples, of Columbia, Christine Wingard, of Lexington, Jeanette Brazzel, of Columbia, Ruby Brannham of Columbia. Four brothers; Ernest Chavis, of Swansea, Reverend Sampson Chavis, of Columbia, Marion Cooper of Elgin, Lucius Cooper, Jr. of Columbia, S.C. Nineteen grandchildren and thirty two great-grandchildren.

Virgie Mae Cercopely Kemp 78, of Charleston Heights, died Wednesday July 10, 2002, in a local hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Carolina Memorial Park. Born June 2, 1924, in Charleston, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Clarence J. Cercopely and Ruby Cox Cercopely.
Mrs. Kemp was a retired head of House Keeping, at the Coastal Center residential facility. Mrs. Kemp was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Mrs. Kemp was a member of the St. George Episcopal church, Daughters of America, Vance Chapter Eastern Stars.
Mr. Kemp was predeceased by her husband; Howard H. Kemp Jr. She is survived by daughters; Dianne McAlhaney of Mt. Pleasant, Alice Jordan, of Charleston two sons; Harold Cercopely, of Mt. Pleasant, and Edwin Hazel, Jr. of Goose Creek. One sister; Ella Gaskins, of Eutawville, three brothers; Joseph Cercopely, Sr. of Charleston, S.C. George Cercopely, of Folly Beach, and John Cercopely, of Knightsville. Nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Vernon D. Lee 84, of Moncks Corner, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at a local hospital.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. Born February 19, 1918, in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He was the son of the late Orella D. Lee and Lottie Bevans Lee.
Mr. Lee was a retired Painter, from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife; Anne Estelle Lee, of Moncks Corner, four daughters; Dorothy Lee Renne, of Chapin S.C., Peggy L. Brant, of Moncks Corner, S.C., Valynda L. Ham of North Charleston, S.C. and Joan L. Noll, of Sullivans Island, S.C. Five sons; Robert Harold Lee, of Chapin, S.C. James Vernon Lee, of Hanahan, S.C., Raymond Earl Lee, of Neptune Beach, Florida and Kenneth Alvin Lee, of Moncks Corner, John David Lee, of Chapin, S.C. Twenty one grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Lt. Col. Harold Glenn Fee, Jr., Ret., 80, husband of Jo Marian King Fee, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002 in a local hospital.

Mr. Fee was born on October 25, 1921 in Cambridge, Nebraska, a son of Harold Glenn Fee, Sr. and Esther Keyes Fee. He was retired Lt. Colonel, US Army and transportation supervisor for the Old Charleston Army Depot. He was Methodist and was an U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Marian King Fee of Summerville; son, Harold Glenn Fee, III, and his wife, Lynn Fee, of Summerville; daughter, Phyllis Wittschen, and her husband, Raymond Wittschen, of Florence, S.C.; four grandchildren, Renee Baade and Karyn Freeman, both of Columbia, S.C.; Kelly Weatherford of Effingham, S.C. and William Fee of Walterboro, S.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney Weatherford, of Effingham, S.C., Lydia Fee and Addisyn Fee, both of Walterboro, S.C. and Meygan Freeman, of Columbia. Mr. Fee was predeceased by a son, James Randall Fee.
