MCCARTY, Vestal
Vestal Ray McCarty, 62, of Bonneau, S.C., former president of Wetterau Foods, died Wednesday in a Moncks Corner hospital.
The funeral services and burial will be held in Tallahassee, FL. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS, CORNER, S.C. from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. this Thursday evening. Mr. McCarty was born Jan. 4, 1940, in Danville, Illinois, a son of Leotis McCarty and Vivian Davis McCarty. He formerly served in the Marine Corps Reserve. He was predeceased by a son, Michael McCarty, and a sister, Shirley Jones.
Surviving are, his wife Valerie Goulding McCarty; three sons, Matthew McCarty and Morry McCarty both of Bonneau, and Mark McCarty, Sr., of Tallahassee, FL; a sister, Sally Mariatt of Danville, Illinois; a brother, Fredrick McCarty of Cabot; Arkansas; and five grandchildren.

She is the beloved sister of the late Mrs. Julia C. Westpoint, the late Mr. Benjamin D. Chapman, Mr. Louis Chapman, Deacon John T. Chapman, and Mr. Clarence P. Chapman. She is the aunt of Mrs. Jonzeeta B.C. Wright, Mrs. Belinda (Johnny) McLaughlin, and Mr. John J. Chapman. Devoted friends Mrs. Harriet G. Simpson and Mrs. Martha Sanders. CAMPBELL, Nellie
ANDERSON - Nellie Chastain Campbell, 80, of 208 Edwards Drive, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson, she was a retired textile employee and was a restaurant employee. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #5996, and was a member of Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are one son, William E. Pruitt, of Moncks Corner; one brother, Ralph Chastain, of Anderson; two sister, Macy Chastain Barhett of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Thelma Chastain Gambrell of Taylors; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was the widow of George Wayne Campbell and the daughter of the late John Frank and Minnie Hanks Chastain. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Wade, Gus, Guy, and Joe Chastain, and by three sisters, Madge Chastain McClain, Clara Chastain, and Louise Chastain Phillips.
Services will be at 3 p.m., Friday, at Taylor Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Brent Lollis and the Rev. Tommy Wooten. Burial will be in the Belton City cemetery. The body is at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Downtown Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m., Friday. The family is at the residence, 208 Edwards Drive, Anderson.

William B. Alston, Jr., 68, of 103 Elijah Street, Springfield, a retired Air Force T/Sgt., died Thursday in Charleston, S.C. Born in Charleston, he had been a 34 year resident in Springfield and retired from Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield. He was a member of Third Baptist Church, and a member of Harmony Lodge #140 of IBPOE of W, where he served on the Past Exalted Rulers Council #149, Past State President of New England States and Eastern Canada, Past Grand Exalted Ruler, National Active Exalted Rulers Council, Past Grand Exalted Rulers Council. He was the Grand District Deputy over two councils and one lodge, was a member of the local Beauty and Talent, Hospitality, and Antler Guard Departments and was a General in the Massachusetts State Brigade. He was also a member of the American Legion, and Carl Talbot Post Veterans of Foreign Wards. He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Margaret (Weldon) Alston of Springfield; a son, Sherman William Pittman, Jr., of Springfield; a daughter, Yvette A. Weldon of Chicopee; five sisters, Susan Ann Taylor, Virginia Sweeper, and Mary Ann Jefferson, all of Charleson, S.C., Emily Thornton of Virginia, and Patricia Simpson of Detroit, Mich.; three brothers, Robert Alston, and Elvin Alston, both of Charleston, S.C., and Norman Alston of New York; six sisters-in-law, Martha Alston, Isabella Alston, Sarah Orr, Doris Ezell, Hanna Weldon, and Augusta Weldon; three brothers-in-law, James Thornton, Joseph Simpson, and Arnold Simpson; two God-children, Ashley Williams, and Shellis Wells; and a devoted friend, Arleen Diggs. Mr. Clontz was born December 8, 1949, in Ashville, N.C., a son of James Garrett Clontz and Ollie Parris Clontz.
He was a graduate of Summerville High School. He was an Army veteran serving in the Infantry Division during the Viet Nam War. He received the Purple Heart. He was an automobile salesman. He was a member of Summerville Baptist Church.
Surviving are, his mother of Summerville; his brother, James Clontz of Jeffersontown, Ky.; his sister, Marilyn Adair of Mehlbach, Germany; a son, Lee Clontz, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Terri Clontz of Goose Creek, S.C.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Terry Onspaugh of Hanahan, S.C.; three granddaughters, Kimberly O. Truslow, Karen O. Pope and Katherine Dianne Onspaugh, and a great-grandson, Kemp J. Truslow.
