Mr. James W. "Buttercup" Hendricks, Jr., age 84 formerly of Charleston, S.C. died Thursday, June 27, 2002.
Mr. Hendricks retired from the Charleston Fire Department in 1980 after 35 years of service. The American Tobacco Company had also employed him. He was a veteran of World War II, having served from 1940 to 1945. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Charleston, S.C.
Graveside services will be held Monday, July 1, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross cemetery in Charleston, S.C.
The family will receive friends Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Stuhr Funeral Home, West Ashley Chapel.
Mr. Hendricks was born November 5, 1917. He is survived by son, James W. Hendricks, III, a daughter, JoAnn H. Watson; two granddaughters; two grandsons; a sister, Ruth H. Moore and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Society and to Portsbridge Hospice, 319 East Church St., P.O. Box 1087, Cartersville, Ga. 30120.

HINSON, Cynthia
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 27, 2002, Cynthia Bradsher Hinson. Residence, Summerville, S.C. Funeral services and burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL.
Ms. Hinson was born September 25, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee the daughter of the late Dr. Herman E. Bradsher and Barbara Webb Bradsher. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are one son, Lucien Hinson, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, one daughter, Elizabeth Hinson Brown of Vicksburg, Mississippi, one sister, Beth Terry of Summerville, S.C. and one grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
GRIMM, Elizabeth
ALLENDALE - Lifelong citizen of Allendale, S.C., Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer Grimm, 75, peacefully passed away at the Allendale County Hospital Thursday evening. A memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion in Allendale.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Arthur E. Grimm, Jr., a sister, Mrs. Jean Thomas, and daughters Alice Evridge, Mary Palmer, and Elizabeth Henry. There are 5 grandchildren.
Mrs. Grimm was the daughter of the late Florence Humphries McSweeney and the late Eugene Bowham McSweeney, who was the founder and publisher of the Allendale County Citizen, Hampton Guardian, and the Jasper County News. She was also the granddaughter of the late Governor, Miles B. McSweeney, and was an honored member of the South Carolina Newspaper Hall of Fame. Her greatest accomplishment was her unconditional love, which will be felt and carried on for generations.

SMITH, D. Harold
The relatives and friends of Mr. D. Harold Smith, husband of Evelyn Hentz Smith, are invited to attend his memorial service this afternoon at 2 o'clock in Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 West 3rd South Street, Summerville, SC.

The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Peeples are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter in Ashley River Baptist Church, Sunday afternoon, June 30, 2002 at Three O'clock. Mr. Peeples was born in Early Branch, SC, the son of Till H. Peeples and Polly Phillips Peeples. He was a retired ship scheduler for the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church. He was active in civil work: he served as an apprentice at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and retired after 36 years of service. He was a WWII veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Bivens Peeples of Charleston, SC; two daughters- Linda P. Sims of Walterboro, SC, and Deloris P. Higgins of Woodbridge, VA; one brother- Harold L. Peeples of Early Branch, SC; two grandchildren; one step grandchild; one great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy, Charleston, SC 29407, or to a charity of one's choice.

Juanita Alline Nicholas, 65, wife of Kermit L. Nicholas of Summerville, SC, died Thursday, June 27, 2002 at a Charleston hospital.

Ashley Lynn Torino, 18, of Summerville, SC died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Parks Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday afternoon, June 30, 2002 at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in White Church cemetery. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home, Summerville, SC Saturday evening from 6 - 8 o'clock.
Survivors include her mother, Christine (Torino) Markle, and Blake Chapman, of North Charleston, SC; father and step-mother, frank and Laura Feiden, of Latham, NY; half=-brother, Keith Feiden of Latham, NY; guardians, Thomas (Pike) and Kathy (Torino) Limehouse, of Summerville, SC; maternal grandmother, Polly torinop, of North Charleston, SC; paternal grandmother, June Feiden of Latham, NY; several aunts and uncles, and seven cousins.

JOHNSTON, Catherine
Catherine Deitrick (Miss Kitty) Johnston, 88, of 405 Johnston Street, St. George, South Carolina died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital, Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the St. George United Methodist Church with Rev. Wash Belangia and Rev. Edward Davidson officiating. The burial will be in the St. George cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 P.M. on Friday, June 28, at the Bryant Funeral Home in St. George.
Mrs. Johnston was born July 17, 1913 in Essex County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Harry Vincent Deitrick and Nancy Rice Deitrick. She was a graduate of William and Mary College. Mrs. Johnston was active in various clubs and civic organizations and was a member of the St. George United Methodist Church for 66 years. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Aquilla Richard Johnston.
Surviving are her 4 sons and daughters-in-law: A. Richard Johnston Jr. and Carol B. Johnston of Columbia, John B. Johnston and Tracy R. Johnston of Walterboro, Harry L. Johnston and Mary B. Johnston and Kirkland S. Johnston and Lydia B. Johnston of Spartanburg. Also surviving, John G. Deitrick, twin brother, of Tappahannock, Virginia. Mrs. Johnston has 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Lourie Theater Building Fund in care of Mr. and Mrs. John David Johnston, 306 Johnston Street, St. George, South Carolina 29477.
FREEMAN, Laverne
The relatives and friends of Ms. Laverne "Foxy" Freeman are invited to attend her funeral services on Saturday, June 29, 2002, 12 Noon at the William M. Smith Memorial Chapel, 2 Radcliffe Street, Charleston, SC. Rev. J. M. Deas officiating. Interment, Monrovia cemetery.
Ms Freeman is survived by her children, Mr. Kevin Freeman (Romona) and Ms. Felicia Freeman; 10 grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Evelyn Brown Freeman; her brothers, Mr. Marvin Freeman (Tony) and Mr. Stephen Freeman (Sheila); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Viewing for Ms. Freeman will be at the Chapel on Friday, June 28, 2002 from 2 to 8 PM. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 PM.
