The relatives and friends of Donald LeRoy Smathers are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Bernadette's Catholic Church, Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at ten o'clock and where The Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held in St. Agetha Catholic Church cemetery, with military honors both in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The Rosary will be recited at Byham-Miller-Mizner Funeral Home, 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA, Tuesday evening at seven o'clock where the family will receive visitors until nine o'clock. Mr. Smathers was born on October 21, 1925 in Venus, PA, a son of the late William Reed Smathers and Sarah Luella Smith Smathers. After graduating fron high school, Mr. Smathers served in the United States Navy during World War II. Along with his devoted wife, Mr. and Mrs. Smathers served as corporate officers of their company, Smathers Pipeline Construction Company in Meadville, PA. Mr. Smathers had attended Immaculate Conception Church in Goose Creek, and was active in bowling teams in the North Charleston area, and found much enjoyment in investing and reading many business journals.
Surviving are his children: Stephen Edward Smathers of Charlotte, NC, William Reed Smathers of Meadville, PA, Donna Sue S. Laepple of Dayton, OH, Susan Smathers of Atlanta, GA, Marianne S. Pugar of Dayton, OH, and Jeanette S. Osborne of Cambridge Springs, PA; two brothers: Russell Smathers of Boston, MA, Kenneth Smathers of Buffalo, NY; a sister: Barbara S. Reed of Knox, PA; and 19 grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Smathers were predeceased by a son, David G. Smathers of Meadville, PA.

He is survived by one sister: Erline P. Waltz of Charleston, SC; 2 nephews: William L. Waltz and Frank H. Rodeniser, III; one niece: Patricia W. Dorothy; and 2 grandnieces.

ST. MATTHEWS - Hazel McAfee Wimberly Barnhill, 92, died Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2002 at a local hospital.
Services will be held today, Monday, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, St. Matthews with Rev. Fred Davis and the Rev. Alfred Thomas Kurt Zadig officiating. Burial will be in Old St. Paul Methodist cemetery.

Mrs. Barnhill was born in Wrightsville, Ga. A daughter of the late J.K. McAfee, Sr. and Mamie Palmer McAfee. She attended college in Georgia. She was retired from American Bank and Trust. Mrs. Barnhill was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Dorcas Circle of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a member of the Dogwood Club. She was first married
to the late Lucius Kennerly Wimberly and was the widow of Robert Samuel Barnhill.
