VEREEN, Silvia
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH
Silvia Anne Vereen left this earth to be with her heavenly father on June 22, 2002. She is survived by her three children: a daughter, Bonnie Baldwin Hall and two sons, J.O. Baldwin III and his wife, Kim, and Michael ""Brandy" Baldwin and his wife, Mary Jane, all life-long residents of North Myrtle Beach, SC. Anne has three grandchildren: Baldwin Maye Hall, James Baldwin IV, and Michael "Sully" Baldwin. Anne has two brothers: John L. Vereen, Jr. and his wife, Miriam (Anne's dear friend and earth sister), and "Bubby" Vereen of Pleasantview, Co.
During Anne's fifty-nine years here on earth, she was indeed a pied piper of people. she attracted people of all walk's of life, various artists, people of warmth, people of the working class and sometimes just oddballs off the street, but that was Anne's way and most of all her friends and companions were people who, like herself, enjoyed life to the fullest, celebrating each day with love and laughter. All of her friends were people whose hearts were as warm and caring as hers; it was a common thread they all shared.
Anne was born in Florence, SC on January 10, 1943. Shortly after her birth her parents, "Happy" and Mary Margaret Vereen, moved to Cherry Grove Beach. It was during these younger years that her love for the ocean and the salt marshes that surrounded the family home became a haven for Anne. This love of the outdoors continued until her death. She never missed an opportunity to share this love of the beach atmosphere with her friends. She passed her love of nature on to her children and her grandchildren and her many friends.
Anne made her living as an artist, the second love of her life. Her art mediums were abstract, her love of art sincere, and she spent many hours capturing her world on canvas hoping that she could share the beauty she saw in people and her love of the beach.
Her smile, her sense of humor, her warm embrace will be missed by her family and the many people who knew her and loved her. Anne was a Christian who learned God's love later in life, but she never wasted a minute sharing with others her new found strength and her faith. Her faith and her strength shown through during her sickness, a beacon for all to see, an inspiration to those who are still suffering and a condolence to her children that she was going to a better place, a place where she would no longer be sick, but where she could run on the beach as she did as a child, dig for clams with rolled up jeans, a smile on her face and the sun shining down on her back: A world where all is well.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church on Sixth Avenue. A celebration of Anne's life including close friends and family will be held at the Cherry Grove Pier immediately following the service.
