HARPER, Joseph
Joseph Leon "Joe" Harper, 58, of Summerville, husband of Claudette Davis Harper died Wednesday morning at his residence.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 11 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.
Mr. Harper was born on September 5, 1943 in Mullins, S.C., a son of Carrie Catherine Turner Harper of Summerville and the late James Lamar Harper. He was a graduate of Murray Vocational School in Charleston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a sales coordinator with Altman Dodge in Charleston. He was a member of Crowfield Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife and mother of Summerville; daughter, Cynthia Harper of Charleston; step-son, Jack Fedol of Summerville; step-daughter, Laurie Frisbie of Summerville; step-granddaughter, Renee Frisbie of Summerville; three brothers, James C. Harper of Ladson, Henry P. Harper of Goose Creek, and Clay A. Harper of Columbia; one niece and four nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Billy T. Harper.

Rita Cone Sanders, 78, of Ravenel, widow of Charles "Paul" Sanders, Jr. died Wednesday morning at Oak Haven Assisted Living Charleston.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2002 at 3 o'clock in The First Baptist Church of Ravenel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sanders was born December 3, 1923 in Ravenel, a daughter of the late Andrew Nathaniel Cone and Adelaide Platt Cone. She was a graduate of St. Paul's High School. She was a member of the Genealogy Society. She was a homemaker and a member of The First Baptist Church of Ravenel.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula "Kay" Sword of Emory, Tex.; 2 sons, Charles N. Sanders of Ravenel and Robert T. "Tim" Sanders of Fredericksburg, Va.; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Beth Sanders Weaver.

Mrs. Waits was born in Dublin, Ga., a daughter of Stacey John Sams and Eulalie Linder Sams. She was the widow of J. Ray Waits and retired owner/operator of Lucille Waits. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Waits painted lowcountry camellias and magnolias and was the first person to sell Godiva Chocolates in Charleston. She was known around Charleston as the Godiva Lady.
Surviving are one daughter, Cinda Waits Cave and her husband Morris of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one son, J. Ray Waits, Jr. and his wife, Angela of Wando, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Scott, Brian and David Cave, J.R. Waits, III, Nicole W. Michaels, Travis Waits and Katie Waits; three great-grandchildren, Scotty Cave, Wesley Michaels and Greta Ray Waits.

Bitha Ann Francis Kennedy Giles, 68, of Ranger Drive, North Charleston, a homemaker, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Giles was born September 22, 1933, in Lake City, S.C., a daughter of Olin J. Kennedy and Mary Annie Jane and Ard Kennedy. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. A son, Kenneth Carl DeFree preceded Mrs. Giles in death.
Surviving are, her daughter, Sara Jane DeFee of North Charleston; two sons, Patrick Oniel DeFee of Hanahan and Thomas Samuel DeFee of North Charleston; two sisters, Edith Mozell Butler of Charleston and Donna Diane Mincey of Ladson; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
