JOHNSON, S.C. - Services for Mrs. Ruby Ripley Derrick, age 95, will be held at Johnston First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday with burial to follow in Mt. of Olives cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bland Funeral Home from 6:30-8:30 Monday night. Mrs. Derrick, a native of Johnson, died Saturday, June 15, 2002. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Leola Autry Ripley. For many years, Mrs. Derrick worked with her husband, the late Fletcher Carl Derrick, Sr., a merchant, owner of Derrick's Grocery. Later she became Librarian in Johnston, a branch of the Aiken, Edgefield, Barnwell Library. She was always very active in Garden Clubs and won awards for her old roses and also won the Gladys H. Meadows Horticultural Award for having won the most blue ribbons in flower shows she entered. She was a life member of the Garden Club of South Carolina. For eight years, Mrs. Derrick served on the beautification and upkeep committee for Mt. of Olives cemetery. Because of the outstanding job done, the Peach Blossom Garden Club won a 1st Place award which was received at the state convention. Mrs. Derrick was a member of Johnston First Baptist Church and for many years taught pre-school age children, was a member of the Euzelian Sunday School Class, Jesse Mobley mission group and the Happy Singers.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Betty Bland and Grover C. Dowd, Johnston, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Fletcher C. Jr. and Martha Langford Derrick, Charleston; sister, Annie Lewis Hall, Johnston; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Grandchildren: Jewel B. Carpenter, Johnston, Cheryl B. Brainard, Acworth, Ga., Sarah B. Cleveland, Spartanburg, Martha (Mottie Derrick) Wieters and Dr. F. Carl Derrick, III both of Charleston. Great-grandchildren: Mark Williams, Jr., Daniel and Andrew Cleveland, Eliza Langford Rodrigue, Ronald Rex Rodrigue, Derrick August Wieters, Owen Anderson Wieters, Heyward Fletcher Derrick, Crosson Bradford Derrick and Stuart Langford Derrick.
MOORER, Marie
Marie Hyde Moorer, 55, of Dragbottom Lane, Huger, S.C., a former lead supervisor for the Census Bureau, died Saturday in a Mt. Pleasant hospital.
The funeral will be at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the graveside in Macedonia Christian Church cemetery. Interment will follow. Friends may call at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mrs. Moorer was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Seattle, Wash., a daughter of Evan Junior Hyde and Jeanette Brazzele Meek Hyde. She attended Macedonia Christian Church. She was a former co-owner of Swamp Fox Arabians.
Surviving are her husband, David Moorer, her mother of Huger; two daughters, Teresa M. White of Huger and Carolyn M. Hyatt of Summerville; a son, David Moorer, Jr. of Summerville; two brothers, Evan Leo Hyde of Rock Hill and James T. Hyde of Huger; and two grandchildren.
KITCHENER, Vickie
Vickie Karen Lewis Kitchener, 63, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at a local hospital. She was born in Horry County to Clyde and Inez Boyette Lewis. She was a graduate of Floyd's High School in Horry County. She had worked previously in the hospitality industry for many years in the Charleston area. She will be sadly missed by her family, including her husband, William "Bill" L. Kitchener, Jr.; son, William "Sport" L. Kitchener, IV (Alicia) of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Torrey K. Massey (Norman) of Savannah, GA; brother, Clyde Woodrow Lewis (Rita) of Green Sea, SC; sister, Theresa L. Mitchell (John) of Plano, TX; and four grandchildren: William L. Massey, Stephen Tyler Massey, Lauren Elizabeth Kitchener, and William Christopher Kitchener. NELSON, Louis
Louis A. Rohde Nelson, 81, of Charleston, husband of Ruth Hynes Nelson and former co-owner and president of Nelson Printing Co., died Friday, June 14th at a local retirement community. Mr. Nelson was born November 24, 1920, the son of Mary Christina Miller Nelson and Louis A. R. Nelson, in Charleston.
He graduated from Charleston High School and The Citadel, Class of 1941. He served on World War II in the Coast Artillery and the Parachute Field Artillery in the States and Japan.
Mr. Nelson was the former co-owner and president of Nelson Printing Co., now owned and operated by his son. He was one of the founders of the Citadel Brigadier Club and remained active in Alumni Affairs. He was a former member of the Lions Club and Sertoma Club of Charleston. He participated in their projects, especially the Sertoma Football Classics. He was a past president of the Charleston Jaycees and recipient of the Sertoma of the Year Award.
He retired as a Colonel in the US Army Reserve, serving in the US Army Reserve School as Instructor and Commandant. He was a member of the Third Army Reserve Pistol Marksmanship Team. Surviving are his wife of sixty years; 3 sons: Gary Rohde Nelson of Washington, DC, Douglas Louis Nelson of Nellysford, VA, Eric Hynes Nelson of Isle Of Palms; and 2 daughters: Marsha Nelson Hirasaki of Dickinson, TX, and Joyce Nelson Suarez of Charleston; thirteen grandchildren: Dr. Catherine Nelson, Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth Nelson Menard of Arlington, VA, Kitt N. Hirasaki and Parish Hirasaki of Los Angeles, CA, D. Jamil Nelson and Leila Nelson of Los Angeles, CA, Rita Nelson of Gainesville, FL, Katie Smithson of Nashville, TN, Lynsey Smithson of Charleston, Courtney Cregger of Charleston, Alex Nelson, Louis Nelson, and Elise Nelson of Isle of Palms; and a half-brother, Ronald Nelson; and a half-sister, Joan Maxwell.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m., today, Monday, June 17, 2002 at St. Lawrence cemetery. BOWICK, Lyne
Lyne-Noelle de Leeuw Bowick, 42, of Charleston, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, following an illness. Mrs. Bowick was born September 5, 1959 in Montreal Canada. She was the co-owner and founder of Trade Desk America, a financial services company. Mrs. Bowick's career was distinguished by being the first female foreign member of the New York Stock Exchange. She also worked as a trader on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. She also worked for seven years as an advertising executive. She was a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal Canada.
She is survived by her parents, Daniel A. and Huguette Crevier deLeeuw of Montreal Canada, her husband, Mark Bowick of Charleston, a son, Alexandre M. Bowick of Charleston, a brother, Francis deLeeuw (Lise) and two nephews, Gabriel and Bastien and one niece Danika of Montreal.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bowick will be held today, Monday, June 17, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 150 Wentworth St. Committal services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Suhrstedt was born October 30, 1916 in Rock Hill, S.C., a daughter of Samuel Noah Johnson and Jerushia Rebecca Mitchell Johnson. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and a graduate of Winthrop College. She was a retired piano teacher and a retired supervisor with Head Start.
She is survived by one son, Gerhardt John Suhrstedt, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Somerville, Mass.; one daughter, Sara Glynn (Sally) Suhrstedt of Charleston, S.C. and one niece, Carolyn Johnson Ritchie of North Augusta, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Madeline Suhrstedt Royle and Barbara Suhrstedt Brown both of Charleston, S.C.; one brother-in-law, Carl Louis Suhrstedt of Baltimore, Md.

ELGIN, S.C. - Ralph L. "Bubba" Harriss, 57, died Saturday, June 15, 2002. Born in Charleston, he was the son of the late Myers S. and Gloria E. Antley Harriss.
Surviving are sister, Myra H. Manning of Elgin; brother, Myers L. Harriss of Columbia; sister, Judy Elaine Harriss of Gaston; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2002 in Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel. Burial will be in Cresent Hill Memorial Gardens. Rev. Roger Snipes will officiate.
