NELSON, Louis
Louis A. Rohde Nelson, 81, of Charleston, husband of Ruth Hynes Nelson and former co-owner and president of Nelson Printing Co., died Friday, June 14th at a local retirement community. Mr. Nelson was born November 24, 1920, the son of Mary Christina Miller Nelson and Louis A. R. Nelson, in Charleston.
He graduated from Charleston High School and The Citadel, Class of 1941. He served on World War II in the Coast Artillery and the Parachute Field Artillery in the States and Japan.
Mr. Nelson was the former co-owner and president of Nelson Printing Co., now owned and operated by his son. He was one of the founders of the Citadel Brigadier Club and remained active in Alumni Affairs. He was a former member of the Lions Club and Sertoma Club of Charleston. He participated in their projects, especially the Sertoma Football Classics. He was a past president of the Charleston Jaycees and recipient of the Sertoma of the Year Award.
He retired as a Colonel in the US Army Reserve, serving in the US Army Reserve School as Instructor and Commandant. He was a member of the Third Army Reserve Pistol Marksmanship Team. Surviving are his wife of sixty years; 3 sons: Gary Rohde Nelson of Washington, DC, Douglas Louis Nelson of Nellysford, VA, Eric Hynes Nelson of Isle Of Palms; and 2 daughters: Marsha Nelson Hirasaki of Dickinson, TX, and Joyce Nelson Suarez of Charleston; thirteen grandchildren: Dr. Catherine Nelson, Philadelphia, PA, Elizabeth Nelson Menard of Arlington, VA, Kitt N. Hirasaki and Parish Hirasaki of Los Angeles, CA, D. Jamil Nelson and Leila Nelson of Los Angeles, CA, Rita Nelson of Gainesville, FL, Katie Smithson of Nashville, TN, Lynsey Smithson of Charleston, Courtney Cregger of Charleston, Alex Nelson, Louis Nelson, and Elise Nelson of Isle of Palms; and a half-brother, Ronald Nelson; and a half-sister, Joan Maxwell.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 16, 2002 from 5PM until 8PM at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St. A graveside service will be held 10AM, Monday, June 17, 2002 at St. Lawrence cemetery. Susan Lynne (Patterson) Goroll, 50, of Ladson, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at a hospital in N. Charleston, S.C. Born April 19, 1952 at Mather Field AFB, Sacramento, Calif. She was the daughter of William and Carol (Forbes) Patterson. Sue was a 1970 graduate of Encina High School, Sacramento, Calif. She was employed as a hospice nurse in Calif. Sue was naturally drawn to the aged and the very young. She was compassionate and her gift was in helping people not able to care for themselves. She loved her nieces and nephews. Her friendships were forever. Sue enjoyed animals and gardening. She is survived by two sons, Doyle Ray Mitchell, Jr. (Dejay), Phoenix, Ariz., and Dennis Edward Goroll, N. Highlands, Calif.; her parents, Bill and Carol Patterson, Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Michael David Patterson, Fallbrook, Calif.; two sisters, Vicky Rene Zoradi, Mission Viejo, Calif. and Valori Ann Parks, Sacramento, Calif.; grandson Nicholas and granddaughter Ashlynn; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend Pat Northrop, Ladson, S.C. Mrs. Cooksey was born September 19, 1922 in Bowman, South Carolina, the daughter of Louis Clifton Berry and Essie L. Inabinett Berry. She sold Stanley Home Products for 49 years and also sold chinaberry necklaces at the Old Slave Market for 19 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch Fleet Reserve #50; the VFW Auxiliary Post #445; and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #147.
She is survived by 2 sons: John William Cooksey, Jr. of Wadmalaw Island and Ernest Neal Cooksey of James Island; 2 sisters: Charlotte A. Cairns and Ruby F. Dunbar, both of James Island; 2 brothers: Thomas P. Berry of West Ashley and Louis J. C. Berry of Daleville, Alabama; 3 grandchildren: Leah M. Cooksey, William P. Cooksey and Hailey L. Cooksey.

Mr. Bussey was born July 2, 1926 in Charleston, S.C., the son of Lane Henry Bussey and Mabel Garris Bussey. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He retired as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He served with the U.S. Navy in Korea during W.W.II.
He is survived by two daughters, Betty Elaine Bussey and Deborah L. Bussey both of Charleston, S.C.; one son, Lane Drue Bussey, Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and one granddaughter, Whitney Elaine Roberson.

KITCHENER, Vickie
Vickie Karen Lewis Kitchener, 63, of Mt. Plesant, died Friday, June 14, 2002, at a local hospital. She was born in Horry County to Clyde and Inez Boyette Lewis. She was a graduate of Floyd's High School in Horry County. She had worked previously in the hospitality industry for many years in the Charleston area. She will be sadly missed by her family including her husband, William "Bill" L. Kitchener, Jr., son, William "Sport" L. Kitchener, IV (Alicia) of Mt. Pleasant, daughter, Torrey K. Massey (Norman) of Savannah, Ga., brother, Clyde Woodrow Lewis (Rita) of Green Sea, S.C., sister, Theresa L. Mitchell (John) of Plano, Tex., and four grandchildren, William L. HARE, Dorothy
Dorothy Bolen Hare, 80, of Pinopolis, owner and President of A.D. Hare Water Works, died Friday at a North Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pinopolis United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be in St. John's Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Hare was born June 23, 1921 at Florence, S.C., a daughter of David D. Bolen and Lottie Fogle Bolen. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member and former Secretary/Treasurer of the Pinopolis United Methodist Church for 30 years. She was the widow of A. Davis Hare, Sr.
Surviving are two sons, A. Davis Hare, Jr. and Daniel Hare both of Pinopolis; three sisters, Irene B. Bishop of North Charleston, Mildred C. Aiello of Charleston, Elizabeth B. Dangerfield of Summerville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Mr. LaMarque was born July 8, 1929 in Ticonderoga, N.Y., a son of the late Francis Xavier LaMarque and Anna Mary Desjadon LaMarque. He was a member of Senior League Bowling. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired technician with Hercules, Inc. in New York. He was of the Catholic faith.
