CAYCE - Services for Cecil Alvin Riley, 75, of Cayce, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Northside Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Mr. Riley died Tuesday, June 11, 2002. Born in Ridgeville, S.C., he was the son of the late Henry McQueen and Alma Eagerton Riley. Mr. Riley was a United States Army veteran of Word War II. Formerly of Sumter, he had been a local resident since 1966. Mr. Riley was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was retired as a self-employed contractor.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Thigpen Riley, of Cayce; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and J.D. Hitchcock of Orlando, FL, Robin and Chuck Nabors of Lexington; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Judy Riley, Phillip and Rhonda S. Riley, all of Lexington; sisters, Jacqueline Cummings and Julia Williams, both of Hanahan; brothers, Bryant Riley and Ira Riley, both of Ridgeville; grandchildren, Riley and Tyler Hitchcock, Erica and Zach Nabors, Collin and Landon Riley, Christopher, Timothy and Tara Riley; and beloved pet Bandit. Mr. Riley was predeceased by two brothers, William B. Riley and Henry M. Riley, Jr.

METTS, Carey
BRANCHVILLE - Mr. Carey B. Metts, 69 years of age, of 148 Flatwoods Rd., died Monday, June 10, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Mr. Metts was born in Branchville, a son of the late Frederick C. Metts, Sr. and Mrs. Mildred Garner Metts. He was a member of the Branchville Lyons Club, the Cattle Creek Fire Dept., served in the National Guard. He was retired from the Orangeburg Co. Public Works, a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, and a life long resident of the community.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 12, 2002, 3:00 p.m. at the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Ethridge and the Rev. Jakie Walters, with burial in the church yard. Pallbearers are L.C. Bair, David Shider, Doug Reeves, Tim Cooner, Joe Hester, Timmy Brownlee, and Honorary will be the Mt. Tabor Deacons.
Survived by his wife, Mrs. Shelby Metts of Branchville, one brother, Rev. Frederick C. Metts, Jr. of Orangeburg, and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
ROTHWELL, Thomas
Thomas Bishop "Tom" Rothwell, 57, husband of Madeleine Marten Rothwell of Seabrook Island, S.C., died Saturday, June 8, 2002 in a Charleston hospital. Mr. Rothwell was born Saturday, August 19, 1944 in Detroit, Mich., the son of Robert Bishop and Margaret McElhone Rothwell. He was a graduate of Assumption Catholic High School, attended East Michigan University and was a graduate of Wayne State University with a degree in engineering. Mr. Rothwell was a retired district salesman with W.W. Grainger and Company, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and active with the Quality of Life Program at Holy Spirit. Following his retirement he was a tour guide with Adventure Sightseeing for five years. He was the current treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Council #704 and a member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly #1071, the Kiawah-Seabrook Exchange Club and the A.F.S.Y.F.U. Student Exchange Program. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Katie L. Fish and her husband Mike of Greenville, S.C. two sons, Marten E. Rothwell of Waterville, Ohio and Robert F. Rothwell of Genoa, Ohio; two grandsons, Jonathan and Nick Fish; two brothers, Paul Rosehart and his wife Sharon of Canada, Bill Langford and his wife Sue of Tenn.; five sisters, Patricia Musick, Sister Marilyn Rosehart, SSJ, Geraldine Dyrakz and her husband Marvin, Jean Mech and her husband Bob and Virginia Lasanowski and her husband Stan all of Canada. LITTLE ROCK, ARK. - Hillel "Hill" Sloan, age 72, of Little Rock, passed away Monday, June 10, 2002. He was a Medical Management Consultant, a member of Temple B'Nai Israel, and a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid fisherman, was skilled as a gourmet chef and was the former owner of Hills Cafe' on Bowman Curve.
He is survived by his wife, Fay Miller Sloan; three sons, Ellis Sloan and his wife Lori of Little Rock, David Sloan and his wife Donna of Columbia, S.C., Lowell Sloan and his wife Saundra of Irmo, S.C.; a daughter, Michele Krock and her husband Michael of Brandon, Miss.; two step-sons, Mark Barnhard and his wife Diane of Little Rock, Seth Barnhard and his wife Pamela of Dunwoody, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and several cousins including Hillard Young of St. Louis, Mo.
The funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Temple B'Nai Israel, with Rabbi Eugene Levy officiating. Interment will follow at Jewish Oakland cemetery.
