HAMMOND, Jr., Robert
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Robert Newton Hammond, Jr., age 83, of 12 Ivy Trail, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at Roger C. Peace Hospital from complications of a hip fracture.
Born in Moonville, S.C., he spent his adult life in Greenville. He was a son of the late Robert Newton Hammond, Sr. and Annie Campbell Hammond.
During World War II, he served in the Army in the European Theater and during his earlier years, was active in the PTA and Scouting programs. He attended Ellen Woodside High School and Furman University. Before his retirement, he was a salesman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Emogene Horton Hammond of the home; four devoted sons and their wives, Robert Newton, III and Rae Murray Hammond of Charleston, Dr. Lyn Horton and Arlene Parham Hammond, Richard Alan and Brenda Welborn Hammond and Gregory Gene and Tammy Neil Hammond all of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Jean Hammond Cooper, a brother, Harry Campbell Hammond and a sister-in-law, Nancy Williams Hammond all of Greenville. He was predeceased by a brother, William Campbell Hammond, Sr.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Dr. James G. Wooten officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Hammond, Byron Hammond, Jonathan Hammond, Adam Hammond, Matthew Hammond and Austin Hammond.

KINSEY, Peggy
Peggy Jean Faulkner Kinsey, 69, of Moncks Corner, the beloved wife of Norman L. Kinsey, died Wednesday at her residence.
The memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be private.
Mrs. Kinsey was born October 16, 1932 at Conway, Arkansas, a daughter of Ben Lloyd Faulkner and Clara Lillian Mercer Faulkner. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner and the Berkeley Country Club Ladies Golf Association.
Surviving are her husband, Norman L. Kinsey of Moncks Corner; four daughters, Sherry Villeponteaux of Pinopolis, Paula Kocak of Goose Creek, Kimberly Schwartz of Ladson, Vicki Pratt of Moncks Corner; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

WEST COLUMBIA - Services for Michael Lee Thomas, 36, of West Columbia, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Brookland United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Nelson Stokes and Msgr. Leigh A. Mr. Thomas died Wednesday, June 5, 2002. Born in Columbia, he was the son of Johnny P. and Addie Jo Hook Thomas. He was a 1984 graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School. He was actively involved and sponsored the JETS Softball organization. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a manager with V.B. Hook and Co.
Surviving are his beloved parents of West Columbia; beloved wife, Lynne Frierson Thomas of West Columbia; beloved daughters, Alyssa and Amy Thomas of the home, beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, Shonnie Thomas of Lexington, Vikki and Don Hill of Lexington, Toni and Barry Shelton of Raleigh, N.C.; beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, Timmy and Astrida Thomas of Lexington, Rocky and Lynette Thomas of West Columbia; a number of beloved nieces and nephews; a beloved godson, Emory Corbin; and beloved lifelong friend, Byrnie Brown.

GOOSE CREEK - Mr. Ralph Edward Beach, 68, of 103 Central Avenue died Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Mabry officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Beach was born in Dorchester County, a son of the late Leroy Beach and Lucille Beach Beach. He was a retired truck driver with Merita Bread Company and was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Willadean Bazzle Beach, sons, Roland Eugene Beach of Conn. and Ronald Eliott Beach of Ladson, a brother, Cleveland "Buddy" Beach of Walterboro, three sisters, Annelle Boensch and Norma Fender, both of Walterboro and Mildred Nash of Ironton, Ohio, and a granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Elizabeth Beach.

COPELAND, Jr., William
William Lofton Copeland, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., died June 1, 2002. Funeral services were held in Atlanta on Thursday, June 6, 2002.
He was born August 27, 1957, the son of the late William L. Copeland, Sr. and the late Aurelia Calhoun Carrington Copeland. His maternal grandparents were the late Aurelia and Waring P. Carrington, Jr. of Charleston. He is survived by brothers, John Copeland, Robert Copeland and Ken Martin of Atlanta, his fiancée Diane Wilson of Atlanta, and an uncle, John Ross Copeland of Charleston.

Mr. Massenburg was born in Charleston, SC, the son of James Owen Massenburg and Priscilla Branford Massenburg. He was a retired contractor. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School and The University of SC. He served in the US Air Force and then joined NASA in St. Louis, Mo. for several years before returning to Charleston.
Surviving are one sister, Virginia Hardin of Hollywood, S.C., three brothers, Ralph E. Massenburg of James Island, SC, Richard C. Massenburg of Moultrie, Ga., and S. Ray Massenburg of Ladson, SC, several nieces and nephews.
