Susanelliott Grassie, 42, of Goose Creek, S.C., died June 2, 2002 in a local hospital. Born May 15, 1960, in Charleston, she was the daughter of Mary White Grassie and the late Major Richard F. Grassie, Jr. of the Charleston County Police Department. For a number of years, Miss Grassie was Administrative Assistant to the vice president of an oil company in Boston, Mass. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. Surviving are her grandmother, Thelma Elliott White, Charleston; her mother; two brothers, Richard F. Grassie, III and James E. C. Grassie, both of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Laurie G. Houghlan, Anderson, S.C.; one niece, Sarah K. Crane; one nephew, James E.C. Grassie, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant; two aunts, one uncle, and one great-aunt. Funeral services will be today Wednesday, June 5, 2002, 3 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, EAST COOPER CHAPEL, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, 884-3833. Burial will be in Mt. McGOWAN, Jr., Joseph
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 3, 2002, Joseph Wilson McGowan, Jr., husband of Virginia Mims McGowan, residence, Charleston, S.C. Funeral services and burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
Mr. McGowan, Jr., was born in Hampton, S.C., the son of Joseph Wilson McGowan, Sr., and Josephine Mauldin McGowan. He retired from the Life Insurance Company of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He attended the Citadel and graduated from Gupton Jones School of Mortuary Science. He was former a member of the West Ashley Civitan Club. He was a member of the Life Underwriters Association. He was a former Roper Hospital volunteer. He was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church where he was a member of the Frank Abbott Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife of Charleston, S.C., one son, Joseph W. McGowan, III of Laurens, SC, one daughter, Pamela M. Miller of Loganville, Ga, one brother, Leland W. McGowan of Jacksonville, Fl, one sister, Doris M. Moody of Ehrhardt, SC, five grandsons, four great-grandchildren.

Gloria Maria Marchesi Silva, 72, of Charleston, formerly of New York and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. died Tuesday, June 4th at a local hospital. She was the daughter of the late George J. and Delia Roscelli Marchesi. Mrs. Silva was married
to late Dr. Robert A. Silva. She was a graduate of Good Counsel Academy in Whiteplains, N.Y. and received her Bachelors in Biology in 1950 and then received her Masters in Genetics in 1951 from the Fordham University. Mrs. Silva is survived by her son, Mark Silva of Charleston, two daughters, Cindy Aldridge of Landenberg, Penn. and Melanie Craven of W. Harrison, N.Y. Four grandchildren also survive her. Born June 2, 1921 in Durham, N.C., Mr. Harris was the son of James Henry Harris and Esther Pickett Harris. He was a retired Petty Officer First-Class from the U.S. Navy and a veteran of W.W.II. During his 22 years of military service, Mr. Harris served aboard the USS Trippe, Altair, McKenzie, SiBoney, Macon, Ranger, and the Valley Forge. His service decorations include The Pacific Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Campaign, American Defense Service Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service, and Navy Occupation Medal. Recognized with six Engagement Stars for six war convoys. He was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Branch #269, VFW #3142, the Scottish Rite, Omar Shrine and was the recipient of the Omar Service Award by the Shrine Bowl of the Carolina's, Inc., January 2, 1985 and the Walt Disney Award, 50th Annual Shrine Bowl Game, December 13, 1986. He held an Honorary Life Membership with the Omar Provost Guard and was the Hospitality Chairman of Omar Temple during the years of 1984, 1986, 1988, and 1992. Mr. Harris was awarded a Certificate of Community Service by the Crime Prevention Unit of the North Charleston Police Department, November 19, 1988, a Certificate of Appreciation for Community Service to Chicora/Cherokee neighborhood Council presented by Mayor John E. Bourne, Jr., May 18, 1987, Certificate of Appreciation by the North Charleston Citizens Advisory Council, June 2, 1995, the Hettie Rickett Award for Community Service by the S.C. Community Development Association, 1988 and the Distinguished Volunteer Award, Charleston County Schools, May 1987. He was president of Chicora/Cherokee Neighborhood Council for four years, organized the Chicoro/Cherokee Landlords Association, worked with Chicora/Cherokee CPAD and Liberty Hill CPAD. Mr. Harris was a North Charleston City Councilman from 1991 until 1995 and served on many committees during his term as Councilman. He was chairman of World War II Float for a parade in Mt. Pleasant, representing the City of North Charleston for the Victory Parade, May 7, 1995.
He was a volunteer at Chicora Elementary School where he organized the Spring Carnival for three years, worked on beautification of the school grounds, planted azaleas and other flowers. He helped with the clean up of the playground, organized two Spring Festivals for the School and for several years helped with the Watermelon Cutting, celebrating the opening of back to school.
Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Betty Harrison Harris of N. Charleston; a daughter, Louise Tomkinson and her husband, Jim of Charleston; a son, Kelly Ray Harris and his wife Ana of Germantown, Maryland; a sister, Edna Bryant of Durham, N.C.; a brother, James Henry Harris, II of Kannapolis, N.C.; two granddaughters, Cheryl Renee Kramp and her husband David of Orange, Calif. and Alicia Marie Tomkinson of Charleston and a number of cousins.

GREEN, Kevin
Kevin Clark Green, 47, of North Charleston, died Sunday, June 2, 2002.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 7, 2002 at 11 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville.
Burial was held in Magnolia cemetery in DeFunlak Springs, Florida.

Mr. Green was born on November 16, 1954 in Charleston, a son of Marion Miller Green of Summerville and the late Woodrow W. Green. He was a graduate of St. George High School and he attended Trident Technical College. He was a Rod Buster with Daniel Construction. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his mother of Summerville and sister, L. "Sheri" Sheridan Green of Columbia.
