PRESSLEY, Beanie
Funeral services for the Mrs. Beanie Mae Pressley will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2 p.m., at the Friendship United Methodist Church of Nesmith, S.C. Interment will follow in the Burrough cemetery. Rev. Leonard Huggins, Jr., will conduct the religious services.
Mrs. Pressley entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 18, 2002, in the Williamsburg Regional Hospital of Kingstree, S.C., after an extended illness. She was born in Williamsburg County, July 8, 1917. She was the daughter of Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Fine-Dixie Cooper. She was reared by Mr. and Mrs. Alex Barr of Kingstree, S.C. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County, and was a member of Betheda United Methodist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Cecil (Bum) Pressley in 1940. They were blessed with 12 children. Her husband, and two children preceded her in death. She joined the Friendship United Methodist Church of Nesmith. She was a diligent church worker who served on the usher board for many years, and also a member of the United Methodist Women, Circle #4. She was an active member of the Beacon Light Chapter, #218 Order of the Eastern Star.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are four sons, Cecil Pressley of Melbourne, Fla., Thaddeus (Geneva) Pressley of Cades, S.C. Thomas T. Pressley and Jerome (Tony) and Patricia Pressley both of Nesmith, S.C., six daughters, Easter Lyons, of Camden, N.J., Christine (Rev. Mose Brown) of Hemingway, S.C., Minnie Pressley of Florence, S.C., Sarah Scott and Mary (James) Pressley both of Kingstree, S.C. Dorothy (Roosevelt) Graham of the home. A granddaughter she reared as her own, Ellen (Willie) Sumter of Hemingway, S.C. Forty-one grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, three step-sisters, Chrissy Barr of Texas, Rachel McClary of Kingstree and Janie Mae Barr of Hollywood, Fla.; three step-brothers, Hayward (Rosalee) McCrea of Kingstree, S.C. Mose Barr of Miami, Fla., and Samuel Barr of Camden, N.J., three additional daughters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

DUNNING, III, John
Mr. John Miles Dunning, III, of Greensboro and Charleston, died peacefully on Thursday, April 18, 2002, at his home in Charleston.
We will celebrate John's completed life with a Mass to be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2002, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro. Interment will be private.
John Miles Dunning, III, was born in Charleston on March 2, 1931, to the late John Miles Dunning, Jr., and Vivian Parish Dunning. He attended the Citadel, and was the former owner of Guilford Galleries, Dunning Industries and Dunning Ltd. Mr. Dunning was very active in Greensboro Beautiful, a former member of the Eastern Music Festival Board of Directors, a member of Summit Rotary Club, and in 1968 was named the North Carolina Small Businessman of the Year. John was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, collected classic automobiles, and enjoyed woodworking and golf.
Mr. Dunning is survived by his loving wife, Linda "Sam" Dunning of the home; six children, sons, Gary Dunning and his wife, Kathy of Hickory, N.C., Larry Dunning and his wife, Patti, Don Dan Dunning and his wife, Mary, and John Dunning, IV; daughters, Janet Conger and her husband, John and Gail DesJardins all of Greensboro; a sister, Glenda Hauge of Charleston; two brothers, James H. Dunning of Greensboro and C. Wayne Dunning of Dallas, Texas; ten grandchildren, and his friend and first wife, Lois K. Wold of Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street and on Monday following the service in the St. Pius X. Parish Center.

SWEIGART, Donald
Donald "Don" R. Sweigart, 85, of Sullivan's Island, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born in Dayton, Ohio to the late Frank and Anna Claude Sweigart. He graduated from Steele High School and Dayton Art Institute and Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. He was an aerographer's mate during W.W.II in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired quality control manager at Litton Industries, then became the vice president for Carolina Packaging and was most recently a starter at Snee Farm Country Club. Don was a very active member of Stella Maris Catholic Church. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Rita G. Lang Sweigart, five sons, Raymond L. Sweigart and wife Kiki of McLean, Va., F. Charles Sweigart and wife Lynn of Winston-Salem, N.C., John A. Sweigart and wife Susan of Hendersonville, N.C., Mark D. Sweigart and wife Donna of Hamilton, Ohio, Matt G. Sweigart and wife Sabine of Grass Valley, Calif., two daughters, Marcia S. Russo and husband Leo of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Beth Baker of Kenly, N.C., two brothers, Col. Bert Sweigert, USAF of Alexandria, Va., James Howard Sweigart of Kentucky, a sister, Sr. Louise Sweigart of Arlington Hgts., Ohio and 12 grandchildren. Visitation was held Sunday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT. GROOMS, James
HOLLY HILL - Mr. James Wilford Grooms, 77, of 1112 Gilway Ave., Holly Hill, died Saturday in a Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002 in the chapel of Avinger Funeral Home with Dr. David Brien officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Walter Hutto and members of the Men's Bible Class.
Mr. Grooms was born in Holly Hill, a son of the late Earley Grover Grooms and Quinnie Boykin Grooms. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired as manager of the meat market at the Piggly Wiggly. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jean T. Grooms of the home; daughters, Mrs. Dorothy "Dottie" Hawkins and Mrs. Reneé Carson, both of Holly Hill and Mrs. Mildred "Mickie" Mims of Cross; sons, James W. "Jimmy" Grooms, Jr. and E. Timothy "Tim" Grooms, both of Holly Hill; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; niece, Mrs. Peggie Yarborough of Columbia; and a nephew, Joe Grooms, Jr. of Matthews, N.C.

HAMMES, Jr., Roman
Roman Eurchart Hammes, Jr., 81, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, April 20, 2002. He was born November 11, 1920 in Charleston, S.C. His father was Capt. R.B. Hammes Ret. and his mother was Daily Vincent Martin Hammes.
Burke attended various primary schools throughout the nation and high school in Hendersonville, N.C. He graduated from the Citadel in 1941 and shortly thereafter entered the U.S. Navy and a line officer. He served in various commands during W.W.II, being released as a LT.CDR. in 1946. From 1946 to 1965 he was associated in an executive capacity with four major U.S. textile firms in New York, Chicago and La. In 1965 he returned to Charleston as an entrepreneur and during the next 24 years owned and operated three different companies in the personnel, real estate and construction fields. He was a past member of the Citadel Alumni Club, Kiwanis Club, Hibernian Society, Country Club of Charleston and Snee Farm Country Club. He was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Paulette Young Hammes, five sons, Roman B. Hammes, III of Apopka, Fla., Robert T. Hammes of Mt. Pleasant, Michael Ingram Toughy and John Martin Hammes of Charleston, Michael T. Powers of Mt. Pleasant, three daughters, Marie Townsend and Louise Hammes of Charleston, Anne Hammes-Brown of Mt. Pleasant, a brother, John A. Hammes of Athens, Ga., 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a vigil service beginning at 6 p.m., at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Rd. REEVES, Margaret
BRUNSON - Mrs. Margaret Barnes Reeves, 89, widow of the late Thomas Jefferson Reeves, died early Sunday morning in the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Reeves was born in Hampton County, December 6, 1912 a daughter of the late Samuel and Leona Rivers Barnes. She was a homemaker and a member of the Brunson Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, T.J. "Tommy" Reeves, Jr. of Allendale; two daughters, Ann R. Lyons of Fairfax and Kay R. Thames of Brunson; two brothers, Samuel Barnes of Walterboro and Warren Barnes of Hampton; three sisters, Veronica Zeyak of Auburn, New York, Clarice Pulaski of Estill, and Willie Lee Barnes of Hampton. There are 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Reeves was pre-deceased in death by a daughter, Betty Hope.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, in the Chapel of PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME in Hampton, with burial in the Crocketville cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and Tuesday until the hour of services.
