MEYER, Frances
Frances Elizabeth Meyer, 69, of Jamestown, S.C., Died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the residence. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Meyer are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Saturday, April 20, 2002, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel, Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock.
Mrs. Meyer was born July 29, 1932, in Pitt County, N.C., a daughter of Warren B. and Mamie Cox McLawhorn.
Surviving are her husband, Alvin Meyer, two daughters, Constance M. McDaniel of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Kaye M. Eastwood of Wallace, N.C., one son, Donald Gene Moore of Ayden, N.C., three sisters, Madge Lackey and Alice Jean Allday both of North Charleston, S.C., Doris Giannini of Ayden, N.C., two grandchildren.

LEMACKS, Chris
WALTERBORO - Chris G. Lemacks, 24, a carpenter with Ricky Stone Construction Co., died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, at the chapel of the Fred Parker Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Jim Stophel and Rev. Daniel Cooper. Interment will be in Glendale Memorial cemetery, directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Lemacks was born May 8, 1977, in Williams, a son of Sharon Stone Thorson and the late George Ervin Lemacks.
Surviving are, his mother and step-father, Sharon Stone Thorson and Earl Thomas Thorson of Walterboro, his maternal grandparents, Johnny and Eleanor Stanley Stone of Walterboro and his paternal grandparents, Annie Mae Lemacks of Camden and the late Walter Lemacks.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m., at the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
BECKHAM, James
James H. "Jimmy" Beckham, 46, of Cross, a department manager with the Berkeley County Maintenance Department, died Wednesday at a local hospital.
The funeral will be 11 a.m., Saturday at RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Beckham was born August 13, 1955 at Charleston, S.C., a son of Elliott L. Beckham and Dorothy Vinson Beckham. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are his fiancée, Michelle Clark of Cross; two sons, James F. Beckham and Brian A. Beckham both of Kingsman, Arizona; stepdaughter, Tiffany Clark of Cross; stepson, David Clark of Cross; brother, Donnie Beckham of Summerville; two grandchildren, Shawn Rabon and Will Rabon both of Dorchester; one niece and one nephew.

BENNETT, Jr., George
WALTERBORO - George M. (Jimmy) Bennett, Jr., 82, a retired farmer, died Wednesday at Oakwood Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, in Zion Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dennis Hall. Interment will be in the church cemetery, directed by the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Bennett was born March 8, 1920, in Colleton County, a son of the late George M. Bennett and Maude Way Bennett. He was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church, a deacon, choir director, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of five Bronze Stars.
Surviving are eight nieces and nephews.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Carol J. Moore, 56, died Saturday, April 13, 2002, in a local hospital.
Born in Charleston, S.C., Ms. Moore was a retired Salesperson.
She is survived by her mother, Rose Jaffee of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Kreela Moore and her husband Brett Jones of Charlottesville, Va., and Kimberly Varchmin and her husband Steven Varchmin of Avon Park, Fla.; a son, Mathew Moore of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Janice Goldstein of Charleston, S.C., and Beverly Finkle and her husband Jerry Finkle of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, David Jaffee and his wife Dolly Jaffee of Charleston, S.C., and a special companion, Charlie VanDusen of Virginia Beach.

BRUCE, William
COLUMBIA - Graveside services for William Rankin Bruce will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Mr. Bruce, husband of the late Jane Emerson Bruce, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the age of 86. Born in Columbia on October 18, 1915, he was the son of the late Charles Joy Bruce and Anna Rankin Bruce. Mr. Bruce was a member of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. He graduated from Woodbury Forest and attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Mr. Bruce joined Seibels, Bruce and Company and became president of the Company and its subsidiaries in 1966. Mr. Bruce was elected Chairman and CEO of the Seibels, Bruce Group, Inc., and served in that position until his retirement in 1986. Under his tenure, Seibels, Bruce was the largest property and casualty insurer headquartered in the southeast and was ranked among the top 100 property and casualty insurance companies nationwide. He was also chairman of Policy Management Systems, Inc. Mr. Bruce served as chairman of the S.C. Insurance Commission and president of the National Association of Managing General Agents. He served on the Board of Directors of S.C. Federal Savings and Loan Association, S.C. National Bank, the Carolina Research and Development Board and SCANNA. He was also a Trustee of the Columbia Academy. He was an honorary member of Beta Gamma Sigma and inducted into the University of South Carolina Business Hall of Fame. Mr. Bruce was a founding member of the Summit Club, a member and past president of Forest Lake Club and Columbia Ball Society. He was also a member of the Palmetto Club, Centurian Society, and Quadrille.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, William R. Bruce, Jr., and Charlene Bruce of Rembert, S.C., and Charles J. Bruce and Diane Bruce of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Jane B. Smith and William J. Smith, Jr., of Columbia; and eight grandchildren.
CIGANOVIC, Matthew
Matthew Scott Ciganovic, age 13, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at MUSC. He was born December 18, 1988, in Lawton, Okla., the son of Denny and Kay F. Ciganovic. Matthew was a fifth grader at Charles Pinkney Elementary School and formerly attended Whitesides Elementary and Belle Hall Elementary Schools. He had just earned his Arrow of Light Award in Cub Scouts, Pack 40. He enjoyed swimming, soccer and softball, and the many children who joined him. Music played a special part in his life as he learned to write songs and play instruments such as the steel drum, cymbals and recorder. He was happiest when engaging with the other children in play as he helped us learn to celebrate simple joys and the importance of sharing life with loving friends who accept and honor each other regardless of ability.
Matthew is survived by his loving parents, Kay and Denny Ciganovic. In addition, special people in his life include, Grandma Faron, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Gramma Loud, of New York, N.Y.; Uncle Jay Faron and his children, Katie and John of Winterville, N.C.; aunt, Libby Faron and uncle Ed and their children, Abby and David of Summit, N.J.; Uncle Mark and Aunt Terri Ciganovic of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Cathy Proctor and her children, Jesse and Jared and many extended family members and friends, especially those from Whitesides and Pinckney Elementary Schools.
