COLUMBIA - Services for Harry Oren Ray, 74, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church with burial in Woodridge Memorial Park. Mr. Ray died Monday, April 15, 2002, after a short illness. Born in Charlotte, N.C., he was the son of the late Harry E. Ray and Emmie Horton Raley and the step-son of the late T.R. Raley. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, retired from Southern Bell after 35 years of service and worked part-time for Dunbar Funeral Home. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, American Legion, Senior Bowlers of Anchor Lanes, Irmo, and Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. Mr. Ray served as a scout master with Troop #16, Boy Scouts of America at Shandon Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Helen Porter Ray; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas O. Ray and Jane Ray of Mt. Pleasant; and son, J. David Ray of Columbia; and grandchildren, Michael Ray of Lawndale, N.C., Blake Ray and Amanda Ray both of Columbia, Clint Locklear of Columbia, and Baker Locklear and Rebecca Locklear of Mt. Pleasant.
CRUTHERS, Glenda
Glenda Diane Smart Cruthers, 50, of Moncks Corner, died Monday at a North Charleston hospital.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, at the cryptside in Plantation Memorial Gardens. Entombment will be directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, Moncks Corner.
Mrs. Cruthers was born July 14, 1951, at New York City, New York, a daughter of Michael Smart and Iris Newsome Smart Dunivent. She was a Protestant.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas W. Cruthers of Moncks Corner; mother, Iris Newsome Smart Dunivent of Moncks Corner; daughter, Katrina Lee of Moncks Corner; sister, Linda Michelle Platt of Charleston; three brothers, Michael Smart and Tony Smart, both of Moncks Corner; Henry Smart of North Charleston; grandmother, Nellie Newsome of Moncks Corner.

WALL, Gertrude
MARION, S.C. - Mrs. Gertrude Lide Wall, 88, widow of Maurice M. Wall, died Tuesday, April 16, at St. Eugene Medical Center after an illness.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 18, in Rose Hill cemetery, with Rev. Daniel Inabinet officiating. The services will be directed by SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
Mrs. Wall was born January 15, 1914, in Marion County, a daughter of the late William H. Lide and the late Wilhelmina Bennett Lide. Mrs. Wall had worked many years for Leder Brothers Department Store. She was a member of Marion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Euzalian Sunday School Class.
Surviving Mrs. Wall are, a step-son, Robert M. Wall, and his wife Nell Baxley Wall of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Charles B. Lide and his wife Helen of Aiken; a sister, Catherine Henderson of Columbia; a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Lib" Lide of Marion; a special niece, Martha Lide Saxon of Marion; other nephews and a niece; several great-nephews and great-nieces; and several cousins.
Mrs. Wall was predeceased by a step-granddaughter, Catherine Marianne Wall and a brother, William H. Lide, Jr.
Visitation will be held, Thursday afternoon, from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m., at SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.

Richard Lynn Scruggs, 41, of Moncks Corner, S.C., a carpenter, died Tuesday at his residence.
The funeral will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, April 18, 2002, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until the hour of service on Thursday.
Mr. Scruggs was born July 30, 1960, in Charleston, S.C., a son of Richard McArthur Scruggs and Marsha Edwards Scruggs Fitts. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. He was a graduate of Berkeley High School and attended Trident Tech.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy Cross Scruggs; his mother and stepfather, Robert Lee Fitts of Charleston; two daughters, Margaret Lynn Scruggs of N. Charleston and Michelle Smith of Moncks Corner; two sons, Ronald R. Mitchum of Mt. Pleasant and Jonathan B. Mitchum of Moncks Corner; three sisters, Tenia Mutch of Orlando, Fla., Susan Joh of Six Mile, and Bobbie Lee Williams of Tarboro, N.C.; his grandmother, Mildred Edwards of Pimlico; and 12 grandchildren.

He was born on June 15, 1950 in Moncks Corner, S.C. Rudolph attended the public schools of Berkeley County. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. EASTERLING, Sr., Alva
SUMMERVILLE - Alva R. Easterling, Sr., Msgt. USA (Ret.) 83, of 205 Midland Parkway, Summerville, S.C. died on Monday, April 15, 2002 at a local hospital.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2002 at Bowman Southern Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Briden officiating. Burial, Bowman Memorial cemetery.
Mr. Easterling was born in Bowman, a son of the late Claude D. Easterling and Ruby Ethel Austin Easterling. He was a graduate of Bowman High School. Mr. Easterling was a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Army. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He served in 27 different countries and islands, and 42 or the 50 states until his retirement in 1972. He was a Master Mason and member of the Hepziah, GA Lodge #412 and a charter member of Bowman Southern Methodist Church. He was first married
to the late Elma Elise Stevenson and was the widower of Gladys Brasher Easterling.
Survivors include son, Alva Raymond (Ray) Easterling, Jr., Isle of Palms, S.C.; daughter, Mrs. Floyd W. (Peggy) Miller, Columbia, S.C.; step son, Ricky Pickran, Gilman City, Mo.; step daughters, Mrs. Shirley Grimes, Centerville, Ga. and Jan Tricia Whittaker, Columbus, Ga.; sister, Mrs. Ethel E. Carter, Orangeburg, S.C.; 5 grandchildren, Mrs. Pamela E. Baker, Summerville, Miss Karen Ann Easterling, Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Nancy Ann Johnson, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Floyd Wilson Miller, Columbia; 10 great-grandchildren.
