Edward "Eddie" Thomas Young, 72, of Ladson, husband of Mary Hegler Young died Sunday at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at 2 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 until 8 o'clock this Tuesday evening.

Mr. Young was born on January 24, 1930, in Kershaw, S.C., a son of the late Thomas Henry Young, Jr., and Nettie Mae Carson Young.
He was a graduate and valedictorian of Baron-DeKalb High School, Kershaw, S.C. He was a retired Contract Coordinator for DuPont. He was a Mason and Shriner. He as a member of First Southern Methodist Church of Summerville.
Surviving are, his wife, Mary Hegler Young of Ladson; son, Tony H. Young of Ladson; daughters, Carolyn Young Fountain of North Charleston, Debbie Young Nicholson of Summerville; grandsons, Jason Reeves of Camden, S.C., Travis Young of Summerville; granddaughters, Tiffany Nicholson of Mt. Pleasant, Jill Nicholson of Summerville; sisters, Idolene Watkins of New Port News, Va., Nettie Margaret Atkinson of Springfield, Ill.

LONG, Joe
ANDREWS - Joe Carlton Long, 79, widower of Cornelia Bartrell Ethridge Long, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at a Georgetown hospital.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the Spring Gulley Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Andrews Memorial cemetery, directed by Andrews Chapel of MCKENZIE FUNERAL HOME.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2002, at the funeral home.
Mr. Long was born November 15, 1922, in Greenwood, S.C., a son of Ernest C. Long and Mary Agnes Mundy Long. He served in the United States Army, was self-employed in maintenance, and was a Baptist.
Surviving are, one son, Roger Long of Andrews; and three grandchildren.
PERKINS, James
James H. Perkins, 88, of Moncks Corner, S.C., died Wednesday, March 27, at a local hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to the late William Warr Cassidy and Maude Lillian Ethel Macklem Perkins, he was married
to the late Virginia N. Perkins. He was a graduate of Leigh University in Pennsylvania. Mr. Perkins served in WWII in the United States Navy; he retired as manager of the Water Company in Langhorne, Penn. Mr. Perkins was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion, he also was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family in Whitesville. He is survived by his two sons, James H. Perkins, II, and wife Nancy of Gulf Port, Miss., and Michael Perkins and wife Louise of Langhorne, Penn., two daughters, Trudi Woolley, and Barbara Putnam both of Moncks Corner. Seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive Mr. Perkins. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 15, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, Moncks Corner. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. Burial will be held at 2 p.m., in the Church of the Epiphany cemetery in Eutawville, S.C. WELBORN, Lillian
Lillian Zobel Welborn, of Newberry, died April 14, 2002.
Born in Whitmire, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lennie Vess Hardin. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and American Legion Auxiliary, Post 24. She was also a volunteer with the Newberry Opera House.
She was twice married
, first to the late Charles J. Zobel, and secondly to Joe H. Welborn, who survives.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Welborn is survived by two sons, Larry Charles Zobel and William J. Zobel, both of Charleston; two sisters, Sue Inabinet of North Augusta and Geraldine Glover of Rock Hill; three brothers, Jack Hardin of Greenville, Alvin Hardin of Atlanta, Ga., and Gibbs Hardin of Mississippi; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Tuesday, in the MCSWAIN-EVANS FUNERAL CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday evening, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., and suggests that those desiring may make memorials to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, P.O. Box 382, Newberry, S.C. 29108.

MCCARTHY, Michael
Michael P. McCarthy, 93, husband of Margaret Herndon McCarthy, died Saturday, April 13, at a local assisted living home. Born in Charleston to the late Patrick and Lula Bowick McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy was a graduate of Charleston High School, he was a plumber for 20 years and was owner and operator of Sandbar Restaurant on Folly Beach from 1959-1968, during which time he was the Magistrate of Folly Beach for 14 years. He also was a member of the Folly Beach Exchange Club. Mr. McCarthy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Herndon McCarthy, a son, Michael Patrick McCarthy, Jr., and wife Elizabeth of Charleston, a daughter, Marlene Hanjes and husband Kenneth of Folly Beach, a sister, Lula Grice of Charleston, also predeceased by four sisters, Helen Mandige, Carmel Ducker, Loretta Bogart, and Ethel Fulton, 12 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren also survive him. The family will receive firends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Monday, April 15, with a Vigil Prayer service beginning at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. NORWIG, George W.

Mr. Norwig was born in Long Island, N.Y., a son of William E. and Rose H. Norwig. He was the first sports announcer in Charleston, S.C. for the CBS affiliate, WCSC, TV and remained there for 25 years. He retired from WCIV-TV in 1984. He originated the Citadel network and was the "Voice of the Citadel Bulldogs" for 34 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Mr. Norwig graduated from Duke University and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an Honorary life member of The Hibernian Society, member of the Charleston Elks Lodge, The German Friendly Society, the Exchange Club of Charleston, The Citadel Brigadier Club and The Citadel Hall of Fame and former member of The Executive Association of Greater Charleston.
Surviving are his wife of Mt. Pleasant, two daughters, Barbara B. Kirby of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and Diane N. Macrae of Charleston, S.C., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
