TEMPLE, Maria
TARBORO, N.C. - Marie Drane Temple died Friday, April 12th in Tarboro, N.C.
Mrs. Temple was born November 29, 1915 in Charlotte. She was the daughter of Brent Drane and Florence Thomas Drane. After marrying the Rev. Gray Temple in 1940, she lived in Fairfax, Va., Rocky Mount and Charlotte, N.C. and Columbia, S.C. Gray Temple was elected bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina in 1961, and the Temples moved to Charleston. They retired to Edisto Island in 1982 and later moved to the Episcopal Home at Still Hopes in West Columbia, S.C., where Bishop Temple died in 1999.
Maria Temple was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Drane who was killed in action in World War II.
Mrs. Temple is survived by a sister, Jacqueline Nash, Tarboro, N.C.; children, the Rev. Gray Temple, Jr., Duluth, Ga., Robert Drane Temple, Ocracoke, N.C., Charles Temple, Geneva, N.Y.; 7 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, S.C. at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday April 18th.
LYNN, III, Thomas
Thomas Noel Lynn, III, of Mount Pleasant, born in Manassas, Va., April 5, 1933, was the son of Mary Lee and Thomas Noel Lynn, Jr., died April 11, 2002. He attended Falls Church, Va., High School and was a graduate of the University of Virginia where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Lynn was a retired sales manager at Compugraphic Corp. He is survived by his wife, Emily Peirano Lynn; three sons, Thomas Noel Lynn, IV of Asheville, N.C.; David Anthony and Theresa Lynn of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Robert Brian Lynn and his fiancé Sally Tomlinson of St. Cloud, Fla. He is survived by two grandchildren, David Anthony Lynn, II and Mary Katherine Lynn of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Two sisters, Barbara Lynn Darin of Dearborn, Mich., and Nancy Lee Puffenbarger of Tucson, Ariz. The family will receive friends at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT. JOHNSON, Lucille
SPARTANBURG - Lucille Johnson, 73, of Chesnee, S.C., widow of William Franklin Johnson, died April 12, 2002, at Magnolia Manor, Spartanburg.
She was a native of Ninety-Six, S.C., the daughter of the late George W. and Viola Loftis McKinney. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was a registered nurse at Charleston Convalescent, Charleston, S.C.
Survivors include, two sons, Mike Baston, Columbia, S.C., and Dennis Johnson, Spartanburg, S.C.; three daughters, Debra Seay, Cowpens, S.C., Shirley Pennington, Spartanburg, S.C., and Joyce Ellis, Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother, Billy McKinney, Martinez, Ga.; one sister, Mary Alton, Newport News, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday afternoon, at BOBO FUNERAL CHAPEL.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Monday afternoon, Cherokee Springs Baptist Church. Burial in Springhill Memorial Gardens, Chesnee, S.C. Rev. Bill Lark will officiate.

HERNDON, Wendy
Wendy Hayes Herndon, 53, of Richmond Hill, Ga., died April 12, 2002, at her residence.
She lived the last year in Richmond Hill. Prior to this she made her home in Yemassee, S.C. She was a teacher at Laurel Bay Primary School in Beaufort, S.C., for nine years. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina at Beaufort. She was a member of the Richmond Hill First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sgt. Major Raymond J. Hayes.
Survivors include, husband, William R. Herndon, Sr., of Richmond Hill; son and daughter-in-law, William R. Herndon, Jr., and Angelia Herndon of Richmond Hill; four grandchildren, Taylor Elise Herndon, Parker William Herndon, Zachary Tyler Herndon, Cameron Grady Herndon, all of Richmond Hill; mother, Bobbie Hayes of Chapin, S.C.; two brothers, Michael Hayes and Randy Hayes, both of Chapin, S.C.

HIERS, Marion
WALTERBORO - Marion H. Hiers, 80, a retired electrical contractor and president of Hiers Electrical Company, died Friday at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Lee Cothran and "J" Williamson. Interment will be in Live Oak cemetery, directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Hiers was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Colleton County, a son of the late Ernest Leroy Hiers and Marie Houck Hiers. He attended Lodge High School and graduated in 1938. He went on to Murray's Vocational School in Charleston where he graduated in 1941.
In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and served 3 ˝ years as an electrician. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Missouri battleship. He was on this ship when the peace treaty ending World War II was signed in Tokyo Bay.
In 1945, Mr. Hiers returned to Walterboro and began a career in electrical contracting. In 1960, he opened Hiers Electrical Contracting Co. He retired in 1985.
Mr. Hiers was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees, the Administrative Board, and the Methodist Men's Club. He was also a member of the Will Goodwin Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Jewel Goodwin Hiers; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis Hiers McInerney and John F. McInerney of Edisto Island and Dianne Hiers Wood and Arthur M. Wood of Tucker, Ga.; five grandchildren, Art Wood of Lilburn, Ga., Ashley Wood of St. Augustine, Fla., Lt. Michael McInerney of 1st Army Division in Germany, Lt. Alyson McInereny of 82nd Airborne Division in Fayetteville, N.C. and Cadet John Ryan McInerney of Marquette University; one sister, Ernestine Hiers Bradley of Bambery.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
