HERNDON, Sr., James
James Seborn Herndon, Sr., 64, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at his home in Goose Creek. Born February 9, 1938, in Poplarville, Miss., he was the son of Flemong and Burna Mae Herndon (nee Davis). Mr. Herndon retired as a Tech Sergeant after 22 years of service in the U.S. Air Force that included two tours in Vietnam and one in Thailand. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 166. Later he was employed by the City of Hanahan. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cora; four children and their spouses, Ricky P. Herndon (Eva Marie Herndon), Moncks Corner; Barbara Everett (John Christopher Everett), Macedonia; Lolita Cordovez (Brian Magargal) Goose Creek; James S. Herndon, Jr. (Angelia Medina Herndon), Harleyville; five brothers and sisters, Norma Jean Clinton, Hattiesburg, Miss.; Margie Bullen, Pat Herndon, and Josephine Bullen, all of Poplarville, Miss.; and E.J. Herndon, Bay St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Huey Garvin Henderson. A Mass of Christian Liturgy will be held 11 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2002, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Entombment with military honors will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens. A vigil service will be held, Thursday, April 4, 2002, at 7 p.m. with visitation to follow until 9 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. DINKINS, Jr., John
John Rackley Dinkins, Jr., age 46, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., died on Tuesday, April 2, 2002. John is survived by his sisters, Linda Dinkins of Martinez, Ga., and Kathy Dinkins Evans of Marietta, Ga. He is also survived by his step-father, B.K. Anderson of Midville, Ga., and nephew, John D. Evans of Marietta, Ga. John was born in Augusta, Ga., to the late John Rackley Dinkins and Elizabeth Dinkins Anderson.
John was a graduate of the Darlington School in Rome, Ga., and the University of Georgia, in Athens, Ga., with a degree in Nursery Management and Landscape Architecture. He owned and operated Landscape Specialties in Charleston, S.C., where he served as a landscape specialist at several plantations and numerous historical sites in the Charleston Lowcountry area. Previously, John worked at Park Seed Company in Greenwood, S.C., and the Tropical Patio in Hilton Head, S.C.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 5, 2002, at 3 p.m., at Magnolia cemetery in Waynesboro, Ga., with the Reverend Harold Rowland of Waynesboro and the Reverend Dr. Paula Buford of Atlanta officiating. Pallbearers will be Doug Cates, IV, B. Lamar Muray, III, Cleve Mobley, Jesse Stone, Rocky Rockwell and Thomas Black.

Kohn of Newkirk, Okla., two sisters, Angela Compton and her husband, Robert of Pickens, S.C., and Karen Byrd of Virginia Beach, Va., three step-sisters, Deborah A. Rich of Santa Maria, Calif., Tammy C. Erickson of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Cathy Scroggins of Winston Salem, N.C., two step-brothers, Kevin Cottle of Joliet, Ill., and Wesley R. Cottle of Minooka, Ill. She was preceded in death by her step-father, Everett L. Cottle and step-brother, Terry Jason Cottle.

Mrs. Munday was born June 12, 1921, in Philadelphia, Miss., a daughter of the late Hunter Myatt and Effie Gipson Myatt. She was a graduate of Hillman College in Clinton, Miss. She retired having served as Dorm Counselor for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are, two daughters, Linda Munday Martin and her husband Hank of Nashville, Tenn., Ann Munday Priest and her husband David of Charleston; one son, Bill Munday of Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

William Harold Cooley, 73, of Leakesville, Miss., died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Cooley was born December 27, 1928, in Greene County, Miss. He worked as a firefighter at Charleston Air Force Base. He attended Green Lodge Methodist Church.
Mr. Cooley was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran and member of Shicora Lodge Number, 366 F&AM of Charleston, S.C. He was a retired firefighter of Charleston Air Force Base.
Visitation will be April 3, 2002, 5 to 9 p.m., at FREEMAN FUNERAL HOME.
Funeral services will be April 4, 2002, at Green Lodge Methodist Church, 12 p.m. Rev. John Morrison will officiate. Burial in Green Lodge cemetery, Leakesville, Miss.

BROWN, James
James Neil Brown, 58, of 2010 Evergreen Drive, Spartanburg, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of the late James Roy and Rena Cannon Brown. A 1966 graduate of Wofford College, he worked for State Farm Insurance as a Claims Supervisor. He was a NCAA Umpire and Referee, and a member of Green Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Burnette Brown of the home; two sons, Dr. Alan Neil Brown of Charleston, S.C., and Darrin Eric Brown of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Gina Cheryl Brown of Charleston, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2002, at New Prospect Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bill Harris. The family will receive friends in the church immediately following the service.

LONG, George
Mr. George Rudolph "Rudy" Long, 59, of 108 Keene Avenue in Estill, died Tuesday night in a Charleston hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Long was born in Hampton County, November 10, 1942, a son of the late George Henry Long and Mary Pauline Sanders Long Kinard. He had worked in the Shipping Department at Newmark International Fiberglass Company, and was a member of the Bent Barrell Hunting Club and had served as a Volunteer Fireman with the Estill Fire Department. He had attended the Baptist Church.
Surviving are, his wife, Ann DeWitt Long of Estill; two daughters, Audrey L. Sauls and Rebecca L. Jarrell both of Nixville; one son, Jay Long of Hampton; four brothers, Marion, Carl and Marshall Long all of Nixville, and LeRoy Long of Aiken; three sisters, Juanita King and Eunice Campbell both of Easley, and Kathleen Groves of Walterboro; an two half-sisters, Irene Cook of Louisiana and Nell Cobb of West Union, S.C. There are three grandchildren. Mr. Long was pre-deceased by a brother, J.P. Long, and two half-sisters, Alva Lee Drawdy and Hazel Lanier.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Friday, in the Live Oak cemetery near Nixville, directed by the Estill Chapel of PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME. Friends may call at the chapel in Estill from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, and Friday until the hour of services.

Mr. Goodwin was born July 5, 1930, in Canton, Pa., the son of William Leroy Goodwin and Carlotta Havens Goodwin. He was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church. Former co-owner of Dolly's Ceramics of James Island. He served with the U.S. Navy during W.W.II and retired after 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer.
He is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Joy) Manos of James Island, S.C., and Carita (Didi) Coen of Groton, Conn.; two sons, Bruce A. Goodwin of Raleigh, N.C., and Robert (Chip) Goodwin of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Betty Wills of Deltona, Fla., Virginia Millward of Albemarle, N.C., Lula Shaw of Norfolk, Va., and Connie Goodwin of Flagler Beach, Fla.; one brother, Leroy E. Goodwin of Canton, Pa.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
