GUESS, SR., Louis
HENDERSONVILLE - Louis David Guess, Sr., 90, a disabled veteran, died Saturday in a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services with full military rites, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the graveside in Stokes cemetery, directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Guess was born Aug. 3, 1911 in Hendersonville, a son of the late Frank Guess and Mary Elizabeth Fraysse Guess. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Battle of Luxembourg, Battle of the Bulge and Battle of the Rhineland in Germany.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Louis D. Guess, Jr. and Gail B. Guess of Hendersonville, a sister, Frankie Guess Lyle of Hendersonville and a grandson, Louis D. Guess, III of Hendersonville.

She is survived by her husband; five sons, Edward J. Davis of Columbus, Ga., Richard C. Davis of Raeford, N.C., C. Mark Davis of Summerville, S.C., D. Timothy Davis of Greenville, N.C., R. Christopher Davis of Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, Ruben Herron of Charleston, S.C., Jack Herron of Savannah, Ga., James Herron of Rock Hill, S.C.; two sisters, Sarah Cain of Summerville, S.C. and Lucille Williams of Charleston, S.C.; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Steele was born November 27, 1914 in Darlington County, South Carolina, a daughter of John R. Atkinson and Ethel Bland Atkinson. She completed her education in Darlington County Schools and was a member of Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church. During her lifetime she owned and operated a boarding house in Charleston and also excelled in retail sales including Avon and Sarah Coventry Jewelry.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Donald L. (Martha) Steele of Hanahan, S.C., John C. (Barbara) Steele of Walterboro, S.C. and Anne S. (Milton) Farley of Hanahan, S.C.; six grandchildren, Lynn Steele, Michelle S. Carter, Christy S. Clark, Laurie S. Herrington, John C. Steele, II and Leah Steele; three great-grandchildren, Donald, Brandon and Amber Steele; brother-in-law, Joe Busby.
