ABDUL-AZIM, MUSTAFA
Mustafa Abdul-Azim (Nee: Mario Edward Thomas) of Moncks Corner and Charleston, South Carolina died on April 22, 2002, in Turbeville, South Carolina.
Mustafa was born in Charleston on March 16, 1953 to the late Edward Forrest Thomas and Ruth Jackson Thomas Blacknall. He graduated form Burke High School in 1971, served in the U.S. Air Force and was medically discharged from the U.S. Navy. He attended Trident Technical College.
Mustafa is survived by three daughters, Khadijah Abdul-Azim, Asha Thomas, and Jamila Abdul-Azim; his loving mother, Ruth Thomas, Blacknall; seven sisters, Juanita W. Brown, Felicia T. Williams, Hamdiyah Abdul-Aleem, Demetria D. Thomas, Tanya T. Schaffer (Louis), Shawn T. Gray, and Charlene Blacknall; two grandchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His Funeral Prayer was held on April 24, 2002 at Masjid Muhajirun Wal Ansais in Moncks Corner. Interment followed at the Islamic Burial Site in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
ANDERSON, Martha
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of April 24, 2002, Martha Rowe Anderson, widow of John Silcox Anderson. Residence, The Presbyterian Home of Summerville and formerly of Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Anderson was born December 7, 1917, in Summerton, S.C., the daughter of John McCuen Rowe and Eva Uldrick Rowe. She attended Winthrop University. She was a retired office manager with Equitable Life Assurance Society. She was a member of The First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, The Ladies Benevolent Society, The Garden Club of Charleston, The Huguenot Society of South Carolina, The D.A.R. and The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League.
She is survived by one daughter, Hayes Anderson Fordney of Charleston, S.C.; one son, John Silcox Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Claudia of Bluffdale, Utah; 3 sisters, Clara Rowe Richardson of Summerton, S.C., Mary Rowe Walker of North Charleston, S.C. and Dale Rowe Nunn and her husband Mills of Columbia, S.C.; 2 brothers, John McCuen Rowe, Jr. of Walterboro, S.C. and William Winn Rowe and his wife Edna Frances of Summerton, S.C. and 2 sisters-in-law, Eva Dabbs Anderson of Columbia, S.C., Katherine Lesemann Rowe, of Summerville, S.C.; 6 grandchildren, Joseph Warren Fordney and his wife Laura Liles, Sarah Dodd Fordney, Samuel Bennett Fordney, Michael Macdonald Fordney, John Silcox Anderson, III, Claudia Hayes Anderson and one great-grandchild, Clara Lynn Fordney and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carter was born in Charleston, S.C., June 2, 1936, a son of the late Joseph B. Carter, Sr., and Elizabeth Peeler Carter. He had been a member of Rosemont Baptist Church and served his country in the United States Coast Guard and had retired as a security guard and as a constable with the state of South Carolina.
Surviving Mr. Carter are his sister, Helen Carter Singletary of Ridgeville, S.C., as well as many nieces and nephews.

GIERSCH, III, Richard
Richard Frederick Giersch, III, 67, of Charlotte died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at the home of his son in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Burial will be at Forest Lawn cemetery at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 30, followed by a Memorial Service at Christ Episcopal Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at the church following the service. Mr. Giersch was born in Charlotte and attended Charlotte Schools, graduated from Darlington Academy, and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. For the last 15 years he was active in full time lay ministry in which he touched many lives with the love of Jesus Christ. The ministries in which Mr. Giersch devoted his time, his faith, and his witness included leading Sunday worship at Southminster Towers, providing support to Crossroads Ministries, and sharing his faith and friendship with a number of seminary studenst and young ministers. He was also anactive member at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte and has participated in Cursillo and Faith Alive throughout the years.
Mr. Giersch is survived by his two children, his daughter, Mrs. Van Weston, and her husband Rich, of Pawleys Island, SC; his son, Mr. Richard F. Giersch IV and his wife Holly, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his brother, Van Giersch of Raleigh, NC; and his three grandchildren, Dalton, Taylor and Griffin.

SMALLS, Rosemary
God in His Infinite wisdom called Rosemary Smalls to eternal rest on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 2:27 p.m. at The Hospice of Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga.
She was the daughter of Mr. Roosevelt Smalls and Mrs. Naomi S. Thomas. She was born on October 9, 1936 in Charleston, S.C.
She attended Avery High School and graduated from Burke High School in Charleston, S.C. She attended and graduated from The Medical University of South Carolina as a Registered Operating Room Technician. She was employed by The Medical University of South Carolina, Roper Hospital and St. Francis Hospital all in Charleston, S.C.
At an early age, she attended Emanuel A.M.E. Church and later became a member of the Catholic Church.
Rosemary was blessed with two children. One preceded her in death on August 15, 2000, Mr. Reginald Smalls Fordham.
Rosie as she is affectionately called by her family and friends was a soft spoken and caring person.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted and loving daughter, Miss Melanie D. Smalls of Huntsville, Ala.; sisters, Mrs. Louise Hunter of Charleston, S.C., Mrs. Delores S. Holmes of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Janie G. Thomas of Charleston, S.C.; granddaughter, Miss Demetria Green; grandson, Mr. Dejuan Fordham; a special friend, Mr. James "Geno" Greenwell; nine nieces, five nephews, 16 grand-nieces, 10 grand-nephews, a host of cousins and many devoted friends.
The memorial service for Ms. Rosemary Smalls was held at the Pollard Funeral Home in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 3 p.m., Rev. Roy C. Moffett, officiating. Cremation by the Professional Cremation Services of Atlanta, Ga.
