SANDERS, Robert
Robert Wilson Sanders, 82, of Ulmer, SC, died suddenly while visiting his son, Jerry, in Georgia.
Mr. Sanders graduated from Clemson and worked as an engineer for the US Army Corps of Engineers. A pilot during WWII and in Vietnam, he retired from the Georgia Air National Guard as a major and command pilot.
As a 7th generation farmer on the family land in the Big Fork Section of Barnwell County, Mr. Sanders dedicated his retirement years to land conservation and stewardship. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Furman Sanders. Survivors are his four sons, Robert W. Sanders, Jr., Earl F. Sanders, John W. Sanders, and Jerry P. Sanders; and three grandchildren.
In lieu of a service, the family will receive visitors at the Sanders home on Tuesday evening from 4 until 7 PM.

HARLEYVILLE - Mrs. Julia Brooks Lawton, 86, of 222 Maple Hill Road, Harleyville, SC, died Saturday at a Charleston health care facility after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at the Jerusalem United Methodist Church, Harleyville, SC, with Rev. Marin E. Bennett, Sr., officiating. Mrs. Lawton was born October 17, 1915 in Harleyville, SC, a daughter of the late Curtis Brooks and Mrs. Maddie Williams Brooks. She attended the public schools of Dorchester County and was an active member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church where she served for many years on the Usher Board, the adult choir, United Methodist Women, and the YWCA. She was the widow of Jerry Lawton.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Eula Lee Mack, Mrs. Joann (Bennie) Summers, both of Harleyville, SC, Ms. Mary Christine Lawton of North Charleston, SC, Ms. Barbara Delores Lawton of Goose Creek, SC; four sons, Nathaniel Lawton of Harleyville, SC, George Willis Lawton of Eutawville, SC, Christopher Jerome Lawton of St. George, SC, Johnny Mack Lawton of North Charleston, SC. She is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Alston, 47, entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2002, in Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
He was born in Kingstree, S.C., on December 9, 1954, a son of Mrs. Catherine Washington Alston and the late Mr. Joseph Alston.
He attended the public schools of Williamsburg County.
He was a self-employed painter, and formerly employed by Quincy's Steak House in Charleston, S.C.
Loved ones who will cherish his memories forever are, his wife, Mrs. Harriett Heyward Alston of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Nicole McElveen of Kingstree, S.C.; a mother, Mrs. Catherine Alston of Kingstree, S.C.; four brothers, Mr. Joseph Alston (Felicia) of Florida, Mr. Wayne Alston (Felicia) of Kingstree, S.C., Mr. Kevin Alston of New Yersey and Mr. Curtis Alston; three sisters, Mrs. Joyce Kirk (William), of Rock Hill, S.C., Mrs. Nathaniel Moore of Texas, and Mrs. Margaret Alston of Kingstree, S.C., a special aunt who cared for him; Mrs. Mary Lee Miller (Earnest) of Kingstree, S.C. BANNISH, Joe
Joe Albert Bannish, 79, of North Charleston, died Saturday, September 7, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2002, 2 p.m., at graveside in Carolina Memorial Park.
Born in Raymond, Wash., he was the son of Lawrence and Agnes Bannish. Mr. Bannish was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was also retired from Raybestos Manahattan MFG., and an employee of Montgomery Ward. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Mr. Bannish was a member of Fleet Reserve and the Yorktown CV10 Association.
Mr. Bannish was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Georgia Bannish.
Survivors include his wife Inez (Evans) Bannish of North Charleston, one daughter Marta Ridgell and one son Sheldon Bannish, both of Goose Creek, and two special grandsons, Darren J. and Chad M. Bannish, both of Goose Creek.

Virginia May Almers, 81, wife of Willie J. Almers of Charleston died Sunday, September 8, at a local hospital. Born in Charleston to the late Daniel E. Murrill, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Whitehurst Murrill. Mrs. Almers was a graduate of Memminger High School and Rice Business College. She was a member of the Quis Qui Auxiliary, and attended Charleston First Baptist Church. She retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a public relations officer. Mrs. Almers is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wille J. Almers, three sons, William M. Almers and his wife Kathy of Florence, S.C., Daniel A. Almers and his wife Carolyn of Charlotte, N.C., and David H. Almers and his wife Zina of Hillsboro, N.C. Also a brother, Daniel E. Murrill, Jr., of Mt. Samuel Jackson Sweat, 79, of Summerville, widower of Evelyn Hill Sweat, died Monday morning in a local nursing home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at 11 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be in Rudd Branch cemetery in Lebanon.

Survivors are, two step-daughters, Irene Hill of Lebanon, Nell Eadie of Givhans; one step-son, Herman Hill of Lebanon; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Myrtle Chapman of Charleston, Valeria Smoak of Summerville, and Elizabeth Jolly of Summerville.
