BANNISH, Joe
Joe Albert Bannish, 79, of North Charleston, died Saturday, September 7, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 10, 2002, 2 p.m., at graveside in Carolina Memorial Park.
Born in Raymond, Wash., he was the son of Lawrence and Agnes Bannish. Mr. Bannish was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was also retired from Raybestos Manahattan MFG., and an employee of Montgomery Ward. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Mr. Bannish was a member of Fleet Reserve and the Yorktown CV10 Association.
Mr. Bannish was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Georgia Bannish.
Survivors include his wife Inez (Evans) Bannish of North Charleston, one daughter Marta Ridgehl and one son Sheldon Bannish, both of Goose Creek, and two special grandsons, Darren J. and Chad M. Bannish, both of Goose Creek.

DOWNS, Fred
Fred M. Downs, Sr., 88, husband of the late Yolanda Downs of James Island, died Thursday, September 5, 2002 at his residence. Born in Tupper Lake, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary Gildner Downs. He was retired as a civil engineer and was a member of the James Island American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Downs is survived by his son, Fred M. Downs, Jr., and wife Rosemary of Charleston; three daughters, Joann Barksdale and her husband Lew of Virginia, Denise McElwee and husband Jack of Charleston, Loretta Little and husband Rick of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Brant Barksdale, Michael Barksdale, Teresa Barksdale, Johnny McElwee, Allison McElwee, Greg Anderson, Heather Walpole, and Mimi Condon. Also survived by nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 2 PM Monday, September 9, 2002 at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Interment will follow on Thursday, September 12, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Orlando, FL. Ms. Hoffmeyer was born on November 19, 1908, in Florence, S.C., a daughter of Johannas William Hoffmeyer and Sarah Elizabeth Stewart Hoffmeyer. She was a graduate of Florence High School and attended Lander College. She retired as a Specification Clerk with Raybestos Manhattan after 31 years of service. Ms. Hoffmeyer was devoted to her family and dedicated to her church and community. Among the many awards she received in recognition of her outstanding service were the Order of the Palmetto in 1988, and 1991 Silver Palmetto from the S.C. Association of Hospital Auxiliaries, and the Most Outstanding Employee Nationally for Raybestos Manhattan. In addition she was the recipient of the Charlie Hall Hall of Fame.
Her lifelong commitment to volunteering involved 20 years as a Girl Scout Troop Leader; the American Red Cross where she donated over 12, 668 hour over a 30 year period and Baker Hospital which recognized her for over 7, 400 volunteer hours of service. She distinguished herself as a Charter Member and Past President of the North Charleston Business and Professional Women's Club and as Recording Secretary for the Florence Crittenton Home Auxiliary.
She has been faithful in service to her church since 1941 where she was very active in the Youth Ministry and served as President of Wesleyan Service Guild, as well as the Women's Society of Christian Service.
Survivors are two sisters, Margaret H. Sullivan of Charleston, S.C., and Elizabeth H. Edwards of North Charleston, S.C., as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. McAteer was born in Cherry Township, Pa., on December 30, 1937, the daughter of the late Earl M. and Violet Deal McCandless. She was a graduate of Elmenton, Pa., High School. Mrs. McAteer retired as a supply clerk with the Charleston Naval Supply Center, and was a member of the American Legion Post 166 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband of the home, one son, Kenneth Rice of Round O, S.C.; one daughter, Karen Scovell of Eutawville, S.C.; two brothers, Lonnell M. McCandless of San Diego, Calif., and Donald J. McCandless of Stoneboro, Pa., three sisters, Ilene McChesney of Butler, Pa., Correne Frampton of Harrisville, Pa., and Frances Stewart of New Castle, Pa., two grandchildren, Mellissa Killion and Matthew Rice, two great-grandchildren, Shelea Ann Killon and James Allen Pugh III.

Wanda M. Floyd, 76, of Goose Creek, died Thursday, September 5, 3003, at her home. Born in Pana, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Henry Myers and Edna (Dilly) Myers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7, 2002, at 3 p.m., in CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, with entombment to follow in Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mrs. Floyd was a former employee of the Berkeley County School Systems.
Survivors include, two sons, Jeffery Miles Floyd and his wife, Katherine, of Goose Creek, Mark Steven Floyd of Englewood, Colo.

Mrs. Floyd was the former First Vice Chairman of the Berkeley County Republican Party, Past President of the Berkeley County Womens Club, Secretary of the State Republican Party of South Carolina for many years, Committee Woman for Precinct 2 of Goose Creek, as well as being a member of the Berkeley County Library Board.
Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Floyd and her sister, Bernice M. Kulmatycki.
SOLOMON, Marshall
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of May 11, 2002, Marshall George Solomon, the husband of Mary Black Solomon, residence, Charleston, S.C.

Mr. Solomon was a graduate of Northwestern University and retired from the United States Air Force, Civil Service as a Biological Chemist. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean War as a Navigator where he held the rank of Captain. He was a member of Merry-Go-Round Dance Group and Harmony Square Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Black Solomon; two sons, Marshall G. Solomon, Jr. of Goose Creek, and Mark Steven Solomon of North Charleston, S.C.; one step-son, Joseph E. Holliday, Atlanta, Ga. and two step-daughters, Linda Stone of Summerville, S.C., Connie and her husband, Mike Lee of Charleston, S.C.; 7 grandchildren and one sister, Eva S. Sanders of Bloomington, Ind.
