KNAPP, Michael
Michael Joseph Knapp, 86, husband of Margaret Lee Manuel Knapp of the Isle of Palms, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002, in Johnson City, TN. Mr. Knapp was born Friday, July 21, 1916, in Lemont Furnance, PA, the son of Michael Joseph and Anna D'Zamba Knapp. He was a Magna Cum Lauda graduate of the Harvard Business School, where he received his MBA. Mr. Knapp was a veteran of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and retired from the United States Navy after 32 years having attained the rank of Captain. He was self employed in multifamily construction and stock market investments. In 1968, he began a partnership with Joseph P. Griffith forming Griffith - Knapp Properties, which has survived to this day. One of his projects was the Lodge Alley Inn Complex, a block of historic warehouses saved from demolition and restored into a 37 room Inn, condominiums, office space and private residences. The Inn has been awarded three diamonds by the AAA Auto Club for excellence. In addition to the Inn project the firm developed the Charleston National Country Club, Snee Farm Golf and Country Club, Shadowmoss Country Club and Subdivision, Ashley Hall Plantation Subdivision, Pre-Stress Concrete Company of Charleston, Birch Hollow Trailer Park, Mini-storage of Goose Creek and most recently the Pine Lakes Apartments and Terrace Inn Motel. Mr. Knapp was instrumental in the founding of a successful local savings and loan, First Trident Savings and Loan and served on its Board of Directors until it was purchased by NBSC. He was active in civic affairs and was a former board member of the local branch of the Salvation Army. He was an active member of Stella Maris Catholic Church on Sullivan's Island, an Honorary Life Member of the Hibernian Society, the Wild Dunes Club and Charleston National Country Club. Surviving are his wife of Isle of Palms, two sons, Marc. K. Knapp of Charleston and Garth E. Knapp of John's Island, a sister, Marie K. Havlach of Cleveland, OH, and five grandchildren. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Knapp are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2002, at Stella Maris Catholic Church. Oressa Blanch Taylor England, 86, of Charleston, widow of Kirby England, died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 in Charleston. Mrs. England was born Sunday, June 4, 1916 in Grayson County, KY, the daughter of Lesile and Jane King Taylor. She was a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Masters in Education, and the University of Louisville with a Specialist Degree in Education. Mrs. England was a retired teacher with the Jefferson County Schools in Louisville, KY, where she was an outstanding educator for 37 years. She began teaching first through eighth grades in a one room school house, taught herself to play the piano so she could help her students, and sponsored and annual trip for them to the Kentucky state capitol. Mrs. England was an avid gardener and will be remembered for her generosity and loving tenderness to all her family. She was predeceased by a son, Elmer Benton England and a sister, Bonnie Edwards. Surviving her are two daughters, Jane E. Freeman of Hanahan, SC and Phyllis Powell of Vero Beach, FL; one son, Harry England of Charleston, SC; three sisters, Myrtle Bradshaw of Hopkinville, KY, Ruth Baker of Illinois, and Lou Ella Fante of Louisville, KY; several stepbrothers and stepsisters; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. ALEXANDER, Donald
Mr. Donald Lee Alexander, 56, Hidden Meadows Rd., Cleveland, GA, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Alexander was born in Houston, Texas and was raised in Charleston, SC where he attended Charleston College and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was president of Cleveland Winnelson and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa Alexander of Cleveland; daughter, Mary Alexander of Cleveland; son, Kevin Alexander of Cleveland; mother, Frances Roberts of Demorest; father, Gene Alexander of Santee, SC; brothers, Aubrey Alexander of Charleston, SC, and William Alexander of Cornelia.
Funeral services are scheduled for 4 PM Friday, August 30, 2002 in the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. The Rev. Paul Roberts, the Rev. John Bolton, and the Rev. Bob Primm will officiate. Burial will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

SALTERS - Mattie Timmons Vause Parrott, 96, widow of Marvin J. Parrott, died Tuesday in a Kingstree nursing home.
Mrs. Parrott was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Isaac N. Timmons and Anna Belle Fulmore Timmons. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Salters. Mrs. Parrott was first married

CUMMINGS, Thomas
Thomas P. Cummings, 43, of Lee Avenue, Horseheads and Summerville, S.C., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 24, 2002. Tom is survived by his mother, Ann M. (Gladis) Cummings of Horseheads; his children, Brendan, Alysha and Shannon; grandmother, Anna M. Gladis of Horseheads; his sister, Patricia (Donald, Sr.) Segar of Big Flats, and brother, Norbert (Jan Austin) Cummings, Jr., of Summerville, S.C.; several aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his father Norbert Cummings, Sr., in 1984. Tom had recently been working as a paralegal at Cummings Law Firm in Summerville, S.C. MORRIS, Alvin
GEORGETOWN - Alvin Burnet Morris, 61, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002, due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
Mr. Morris was born in Charleston on January 19, 1941, a son of Anna McConnell Morris and the late Daniel Clyde Morris. He grew up and spent most of his life in Andrews. Mr. Morris was an Andrews High School graduate and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He retired six years ago from International Paper Company after 32 years of service. Mr. Morris was a member of the Quarter Century Club, the Three Rivers Coalition, and served in the Army National Guard in Andrews.
Surviving, in addition to his mother of Andrews, are: his wife, Kathy Casselman Morris of Georgetown; a daughter, Rhonda Morris Jowers and her husband Jimmy E. Jowers of Hemingway; two brothers, Michael Morris and his wife JoAnn of Pawley's Island and Edsel Morris and his wife Judy of James Island; a sister, Sandra M. Mobley and her husband John N. Mobley of Georgetown; a grandson, Chandler Jowers of Hemingway; one niece and three nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday morning, August 30, 2002, at 11 o'clock, at the Georgetown Chapel of MAYER FUNERAL HOME. Officiating will be the Rev. Jack Mobley.

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Shirley Gardner Eubank died peacefully Tuesday, August 27, 2002, in Atlantic Beach, Florida, following a massive stroke. She was the wife of Col. Perry Huston Eubank, USA (Ret.), and the daughter of Maj. Gen. and Mrs. Fulton Q. C. Gardner.
Mrs. Eubank was born December 31, 1921 in Washington, D.C. Shirley is survived by her husband of over 60 years and their five children, Katharine E. Jordan of Malvern, PA, Perry H. Eubank, Jr. of Snowmass, CO, Dr. Daniel F. Eubank of Concord, NH, L. Gray Eubank of Portland, OR, and Dr. Stephen G. Eubank of Santa Fe, NM; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Ashley Hall and a former resident of Summerville and Sullivan's Island, SC. Her life was devoted to her family and many friends. In addition, she was active in choral music, hospital and mental health volunteer organizations, the Episcopal Church and was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in South Carolina. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery.
