MELLICHAMP, Robert
FLORENCE, S.C. - Funeral services for Dr. Robert DeLeon Mellichamp, 53, will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. in Northgate Colonial Baptist Church with burial to follow in Quaker cemetery. Rev. Terry Green and Rev. Glenn Carter will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 28, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m., in KORNEGAY FUNERAL HOME CAMDEN CHAPEL. Memorials may be made to Northgate Colonial Baptist Church, 9025 Liberty Hill Road, Camden, S.C. 29020. Dr. Mellichamp died Sunday, August 25, 2002. Born in Camden, he was the son of Margaret Mahoney and the late Laurie Randall Mellichamp. He was a retired Baptist preacher, was formerly employed with Florence County Department of Social Services and the Dillon County Department of Social Services, a member of Unity Baptist Church in Florence and the Lynchwood Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife Anita Simmons Mellichamp, mother of Camden, sons and daughters-in-law; Randy Mellichamp and Michelle of Rock Hill, Butch Mellichamp and Leigh Ann of Camden; and a grandson, Nathan Mellichamp.
SCHMITT, Henry
Henry Marcy Schmitt, 86, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., formerly of Florham Park, N.J., died Monday, August 26, 2002, in the Sandpiper Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was a graduate of Fordham University. He served four years in the United States Air Force during World War II as a Captain and was stationed in India where he was in charge of USO Special Services. During this time, he met and married
Joan, his first wife, who predeceased him.
Mr. Schmitt was a Sales Representative for Allied Chemical Corporation (Honeywell) in N.J. for 30 years. He met and married
Marie, retired and moved to Mt. Pleasant. There, he volunteered at East Cooper Medical Center and served "Meals on Wheels" to local shut-ins.
Surviving are his second wife, Marie, daughters, Marilyn Geffken, Karen Noble and Linda Shoemaker; sons, Michael Schmitt, Charles Collins and Scott Collins, 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Schmitt was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 29, 2002, in Christ Our King Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held in New Jersey at a future date.

BRYAN, Martha
Mrs. Martha Priscilla Wright Bryan departed this life on Sunday, August 25, 2002, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. She was 95 years old.
Martha was born in Walterboro, S.C., on February 20, 1907. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Dais Wright and Violet Lewis Wright.
Her formal education began at Hopewell Parochial School, and then, to Oak Hill Public School. In 1921, she enrolled at Ingleside Seminary in Burkeville, Va. Upon her graduation in 1925, she taught for one year at Hopewell Parochial School.
In 1926, she received a scholarship to study at Knoxville, Tenn. She graduated from Knoxville College in 1950, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in education. She received a Master of Science Degree from South Carolina State College.
Her employments in education were done in Hartsville, Barnwell, Lexington, Saint George, and Walterboro. After 46 years in education, she retired in 1976. She had been a teacher, principal and a supervisor. Mrs. Bryan was the first African American woman to receive a college degree in Walterboro and Colleton County.
Martha was a member of Hopewell United Presbyterian Church. She served as the clerk-of-session for 40 years. She was also secretary and treasurer of the Women Missionary Society for more than 15 years.
In 1953, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Luther W. Bryan, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bryan was affiliated with the following organizations, National Council of Negro Women, Knoxville College Alumni Club, and the State and National Retired Teachers' Association.
She is survived by a son, George Carver Bryan; a daughter-in-law, Mayumi Bryan; and a granddaughter, Dalah Selena Bryan, all of Orangeburg, S.C.; a cousin, Ruby Lewis Steele, Jamaica, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Bryan, Daytona Beach, Fla.; two devoted friends, Aima Holmes and Alma Dubois, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

MITCHELL, Nellie
RIDGELAND - Mrs. Nellie Mae White Mitchell, 75, died August 24, 2002, at St. Joseph Candler Hospital.
She was the daughter of Mr. Alfred White, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mattie Frazer White. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services August 29, 2002 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Center, Ridgeland, SC at 11:00 AM. Rev. William Allen GAlloway and Rev. Dave A. Mitchell, a son, officiating. Burial will follow in Button cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of First Euhaw Baptist Church, where she was a secretary since 1959. She also served as a Pastor's Aide and a member of the Charity Board.
Survivors include her husband, Dea. Stepherson Mitchell of Ridgeland, SC; two sons, Dave A. Mitchell and Roger Wayne Mitchell, both of Ridgeland, SC; one stepson, Nathan Houston of Bronx, NY; two daughters, Mary M. Wrighten of Walterboro, SC and Evelyn M. Percival of Ridgeland, SC; four sisters, Henrietta Grant of Ridgeland, SC, Viola McKnight of Charleston, SC, Annie Mae White of Ridgeland, SC, and Daisy Lee Bailey of Bronx, NY; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

MIZZELL, Laverne
Laverne C. Mizzell, of Hanahan, wife of Clary P. Mizzell, entered into eternal rest Monday, August 26, 2002, at a local hospital.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2002, 4 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
Born November 16, 1944, in Charleston, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Sidney and Ruby Cooper. Mrs. Mizzell was a local businesswoman and homemaker, having been vice-president of Mizzell's Exxon, Inc. She attended Hanahan High School and was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Mizzell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and was committed to her family first.
Survivors include her husband, Clary P. Mizzell of Hanahan; four daughters, Catherine Murphy and her husband Gregory of Bethera, Vicki Crawford and her husband Ronald of Cross, Terri Hill and her husband Brian of Hanahan, and Tracy Roberts and her fiancé Jon Schueller of Summerville; two grandsons, Steven Hartzell and Christian Hill; two granddaughters, Shayla Murphy and Stormie Mizzell; two step-grandsons, Brandyn Hill and Cody Scheuller; a step-granddaughter, Alexis.

WALKER, Donald
ANDREWS - Donald Goodwin Walker, 70, died Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Mr. Walker was born in Charleston on August 15, 1932, a son of the late Vincent Leroy Walker and Ellen Goodwin Walker. He was a graduate of St. Andrew's High School and The Citadel. Mr. Walker served in the Navy out of Norfolk, VA and was a certified public accountant for a number of years. He was founder of New Hanover Workshop in Wilmington, NC, and was the director and manager for approximately twenty-five years. Mr. Walker worked with The Old Town Hall Museum and Andrews Revitalization. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. Mr. Walker was very active in the Chancel Choir and in Lew Mills Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Blakeley Walker of Andrews; a daughter, Debbe W. McCombie of Raleigh, NC; a daughter-in-law, Cathy J. Walker of N. Wilkesboro, NC; two sisters, Mary Walker Van of Wilmington, NC and Juanita W. Lane of Maderita Beach, FL; two step-sons, Ronald M. Rabon of Tallahassee, FL and W. Thomas Rabon of Moncks Corner; four grandchildren, John, Anne, David, and Drew; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Christian, Davis, and Payton.
Mr. Walker was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Durant Walker; a son, Donald Walker, Jr.; a sister, Helen W. Carter; and a brother, V.L. Walker.
Funeral services will be at four o'clock Thursday, August 29, 2002, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Steven M. Todd and Mrs. Carolyn Rogerson. Burial will follow at Andrews Memorial cemetery under the direction of the ANDREWS CHAPEL OF MAYER FUNERAL HOME.

YEMASSEE - Mr. Eddie Lewis Park, 61, of 226 Salkehatchie Road, died Monday at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Yemassee with Rev. Jack Bailey, officiating.
Mr. Park was born in Ozark, Alabama, a son of the late James Lewis Park and Pauline Woodall Park. He was a welder and pipefitter at the Beaufort Air Station and was a US Army veteran. He was a Methodist.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Ann Parker Park; a son, Eddie Lewis Park, Jr. and his wife Leslie Park; three stepchildren, Debra A. Pelt, James A. Ward, Judith M.
