Ida Frances (Granny Ida) Pressley Chatham, 84, of 117 Austin Drive, Anderson, made her triumphant entrance into Heaven at 7:30 PM August 3, 2002.
Her loving husband, William (Shorty) Chatam preceded her in death. She was the daughter of the late Mack and Nonie (Henderson) Pressley. She was born in Laurens July 4th, 1918. She was reared in the Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton, S.C.
She lived in Anderson most of her life and was employed in textiles and the food industry.
Her son, James Edward Baggott of the home and her daughters survive her: Mrs. Jo Anne (Wes) Smith, of Marietta, Georgia and Mrs. Cathy (Jimmy) Taylor of Anderson. Two stepdaughters raised in the home: Mrs. Betty (Gus) Sutton of Central and Mrs. Beatrice (Thurman) Sparks of Johnson City, Tenn. Her three daughter’s in-law she loved like her own: Ruth Baggott of Central, Bessie Baggott of Anderson and Esther Bowman of Iva. Twenty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many dozen of others she treated as her own.
Three sons, Andrew Judson (A.J.) Baggott, Theodore E. Bowman and Jacky Bowman preceded her in death.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, which included her brothers: John Bridges,Paul Pressley, Jessie Pressley, and Dewitt Pressley. Her sisters: Mamie Phillips, Bessie Irene Taylor, Katie Pressley, Susie Carver and Nellie Bishop.
Granny Ida had a heart that touched everyone and was much beloved by all who met her. Her grandchildren, and those who felt like grandchildren, will always have wonderful memories of her. Whether she was teaching them to fist, swim, play games or how to sneak a peak at Christmas presents without getting caught. Above all she wanted them to live as happily as possible. She was a wonderful mother who taught her children by example how to love others and love God.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday Aug. 6, 2002 at 2 PM at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Harrell officiating. Burial will be in New Silverbrook Cemetery. The body is at Woodlawn Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 5 from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Her pallbearers will be Grandsons and cousins. The family will be at the home of granddaughter, Annette Hickey, 106 Ray Ben Lane, Anderson.
Grizzle, Nathaniel C.
HARTWELL, Ga. — Nathaniel C. Grizzle, 81, of 96 Linder Place, formerly of Dalton, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at Hart County Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, he worked for Lee Printing and Office Supply in Dalton for 34 years and was recognized for his active involvement in the Boys Scouts of America for 30 years. He was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Dalton and was a member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are widow, Wynelle Johnston Grizzle of Hartwell; son, Dr. Sam Grizzle of Hartwell; daughter, Lydia Hollingshead of Canton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late John R. Grizzle and Polly Wright Grizzle. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jan Devereaux and Jim Winn. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Graveside services are at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Hill United Methodist Church cemetery in Canton. The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Suite 10, Atlanta, Ga. 30345 or to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Howell St., Hartwell, Ga. 30643.
Busha, Frances
Frances Waters Busha, of 311 Oak Shores Road, Anderson, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central.
Blackwell, Mari
TOWNVILLE — Mari Blackwell, 57, of 211 Lakefront Road, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at her residence.
Born in Essex, England, she was formerly employed by Flour Daniel as a computer software technician. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Surviving are widower, Lloyd Blackwell of the home; sons, Mike Reynolds of Greenville, Joe Reynolds of Greenwood, Jay Reynolds of Fountain Inn and Chris Blackwell of Summerville; daughters, Lori LeGarde of Clayton, N.C. and Tonya Blackwell of Gaffney; brother, Roger Zane of Chino Hills, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Robert Zane and Vera Ewington Zane.
Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Clemson, with the Rev. Laura White officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church.
The family will be at the residence.
Flowers are optional. The family suggests memorials be made to the Crohn’s and Colitus Foundation (CCFA) 386 Park Avenue South, 17th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10016.
The McDougald Funeral Home of Anderson, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Robert Barton, of 8 P St., Anderson, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Richardson, Marsha
HARTWELL, Ga. — James Marshall “Marsha” Richardson, 60, of 937 Benson St. died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta.
Born in Hart County, he was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment Company and was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Monica Richardson of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Heather Richardson of Anderson.
He was the son of the late James A. Richardson and Annie Chapman Richardson.
Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Carter Tucker. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home. Family members will be a t their respective homes.
Flowers are optional. The family suggests memorials be made to the Sardis Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1219, Hartwell, Ga. 30643.
Merck, Jimmie E.
LAURENS — Jimmie Earl “Pop” Merck, 66, of 815 Ranch Road died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home.
Born in Pickens County, he was a retired employee of Torrington and was a former employee of Anderson Hardwood Floors. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War as military police, was a Mason and member of the Palmetto Lodge, a Shrine and taught welding at Greenville Technical College.
Surviving are widow, Barbara Brown Merck of the home; daughters, Anne Gillespie of Anderson, and Norma Jean Goodman of Laurens; sons, Jimmy O. Merck of Cumming, Ga., and Tommy Merck of Laurens; brother, Johnny R. Merck of Prosperity; sisters, Nellie Taylor and Pat Penland, both of Laurens; 12 grandchilden; and one great-grandchild.
He was the son of the late Louie E. and Vera Butler Merck.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Westview Memorial Park by the Rev. Bobby Humphries. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Kennedy Mortuary.
The family will be at the home.

Gordon Sr., Mason
Born in Abbeville, he was retired from the Belton Industries and was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church, Honea Path. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
Surviving are widow, Jennie Ruth Burts Gordon of Ellenburg Nursing Center, Anderson; son, Mason Gordon Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; daughters, Bettye Jean Mattison of Honea Path, Annie Ruth Stewart and Ellen Dean, both of Greensboro, Helen G. Jones of Belton and Shirley G. Smith and Sara L. Smith, both of Anderson; brothers, Walter and Oscar Gordon, both of New Jersey, and Sammie Gordon of Florida; sisters, Lois Mae Daily and Rosetta Gordon, both Asheville, N.C., Stella Staton of Washington, and Lucille Cash of Detroit; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Brooks Gordon.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Baptist Church; burial will be in the church cemetery. The body is at D.B. Walker & Co. Funeral Services and will be placed in the church at noon Saturday, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to the hour of service.
The family will be at the home of his daughter, Bettye J. Mattison, 217 Sanders St., Honea Path.
Farmer, Joe
TOCCOA, Ga. — Joe Allen Farmer, 71, of 1311 Leatherwood Road died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home.
He was born and lived most of his life in Stephens County. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War, was a retired carpenter and member of the Carpenter Union No. 227 in Atlanta, the VFW Post 4346 in Toccoa and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are daughters, Pam DeFoor of Toccoa, and Sherri Ludwig of Seneca, S.C.; sons, Calvin Glenn “Butch” Farmer of Toccoa, and Jimmy Farmer of Stone Mountain; stepdaughter, Carol Gremmer of Toccoa; brothers, Otis Winfred Farmer of Loganville, and Verlyn “Billy” Farmer of Commerce; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was the son of the late Benjamin “Bill” and Eula Mae Kelly Farmer.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home by the Rev. Leon Miller; burial will be in Tates Creek Baptist Church cemetery with members of the VFW Post 4346 in charge of military services.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs Doug DeFoor, 7630 Davis Road, Toccoa, and will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Curtis, Don G.
CENTRAL — Don Gager Curtis, 76, of 185 Woodmont Road died Friday, May 31, 2002, at the R.M. Campbell Nursing Home in Anderson.
Born in Iowa City, Iowa, he was director of Public Works with the city of Clemson, where he retired in 1986. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and attended Lawrence Chapel United Methodist. He was an avid sportsman and animal lover and enjoyed playing the banjo.
Surviving are widow, Martha Martin Curtis of the home; sons, M.A. Curtis and Tom Curtis, both of Seneca; daughters, Kay Curtis Stenzel of San Antonio and Donna Curtis of Clemson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late professor D.D. and Evalyn Gager Curtis.
Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Lawrence Chapel United Methodists Church; burial will be in Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Upstate Chapter, 521 N. McDuffie St., Anderson, S.C. 29621, or to the Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1912, Clemson, S.C. 29633.

Blackwell, Gloria Baker
GLOVERVILLE — Gloria Baker Blackwell of 155 Carline Road, wife of Victor “Vic” Blackwell, died Friday, May 31, 2002.
Born in Bath, she was retired from Mattie C. Hall Nursing Home in 1988 as a nursing assistant and was a member of the Vaucluse United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Carol Ford and Sharon Parker, both of Aiken, and Pam Meyer of Clearwater; son, Tommy Muszall of Graniteville; brothers, Joseph Baker of Gloverville and Ladson Baker of Graniteville; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Alex C. and Mattie Hydrick Baker. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Dewey Blackwell.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hatcher Funeral Home by the Revs. Gene Brown and Steve Hendricks; burial will be in Langley cemetery.
Friends may call at the residence, or from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hatcher Funeral Home, U.S. 1, Langley.
