Ivy I. Thorpe, 67, entered into eternal rest on the evening of May 7, 2002. Mrs. Thorpe was the beloved wife of the late Francis M. Thorpe, Sr. The daughter of Abraham and Mary Kamaka (nee Pahaana). Born on April 4, 1935 on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Mrs. Thorpe met and married
her husband on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, in 1955. Mrs. Thorpe attended the First Baptist Church of Goose Creek where she participated with the Silver Threads senior group. She attended Baptist College. She was a devoted wife, a very loving and giving mother and proud grandmother. She is survived by a daughter, Cathie Thorpe of Goose Creek, S.C.; three sons, Robert K. Thorpe, Kenny Thorpe (Robin) both of Goose Creek, S.C., and J R Thorpe of Charleston, S.C.; brother, Clement Kamaka and sister Doreen Saito, both of Hawaii; four grandchildren, Lindsey, Kayla and Cheyenne Thorpe and Michael Snow; and a host of loving family members including Rod Brown. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Goose Creek, 141 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, S.C. TIMMERMAN, Helen
Helen Speissegger Timmerman, 91, passed away on May 7, 2002 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born in Charleston, South Carolina on March 22, 1911, Mrs. Timmerman was the youngest daughter of the late Walter Louis Speissegger and Marguerite Cordes Speissegger. She was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Dr. William Bledsoe Timmerman and two of her sisters, Julia Speissegger Kelly and Marguerite Speissegger Grice.
After graduating from Memminger High School, Helen attended the College of Charleston. As a homemaker, she also enjoyed playing bridge, was an avid golfer and a passionate reader. A resident of Charlotte from 1954 until 1988, she served as a volunteer for the Mint Museum and was a member of Quail Hollow Club. After retiring to Charleston in 1988, she served as a dedicated and beloved volunteer at the Preservation Society of Charleston. Most recently, Helen was a resident of Sharon Towers in Charlotte.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Louis Timmerman, William B. Timmerman and wife, Debra of Charlotte and Columbia, South Carolina; two grandchildren, William Bledsoe Timmerman III and Catherine Lucille Timmerman; two step-grandchildren, Spencer Cowles Karney and Hope Rogers Karney, and a sister, Dorothy Speissegger Reeder of Charleston.
Friends will be received at the home of William and Debra Timmerman in Columbia on Thursday May 9, from 5 until 7. A private memorial service will be held the following day.

CLARK, Joseph
DORCHESTER, S.C. - Joseph Leroy Clark, age 98, 977 Wire Road, died Monday, August 25, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church with the burial to follow at the church cemetery with Rev. Randall Lawrence and Rev. John Carignan officiating. Pallbearers are Richard Hilton, Robert Hilton, Al Bilton Tommy Grimsley, Nathan Behie and Richard Rhode. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at BRYANT FUNERAL HOME, in St. George.
Mr. Clark was born December 19, 1903 in Dorchester County a son of the late John Curtis Clark and Carrie Way Clark. He was a Retired Farmer, and Saw Mill Operator. He owned and operated a school bus in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Mr. Clark was member of the Zion United Methodist Church where he formerly served as a Trustee and member of the Administrative Board. He served as a School Board Trustee of Harleyville- Ridgeville District IV, and was a former member of Dorchester County Forestry Commission Board. Mr. Clark was pre-deceased by his wife Mattie Stephens Clark and a daughter Weslie Clark.
Surviving are, two sons, Curtis L.(Nona) Clark of St. George, James Roger (Pat) Clark of Dorchester, 3 Grandchildren, Gregory Paul Clark of Bamberg, John Curtis Clark, of Mt. Pleasant and Allyson C. Randal Eugene Blackstock of Ladson, husband of Dawn Payton Blackstock, died Saturday, August 24, 2002.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Lutheran Church Chapel, 206 Central Ave., Summerville, S.C.
Mr. Blackstock was born June 1, 1961, in Charleston, S.C., a son of Carol LaTorre Blackstock and Ralph Blackstock. He graduated from Middleton High School and was a licensed boat mechanic. Growing up he was a member of his church and of the Boy Scouts of America. He had a love of sailing, fishing, and flying.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Abigail (Abbey) Paytoon Blackstock; his parents; two sisters, Cynthia (Cindy) Ahl and Carla Williams; five nieces and one nephew; and grandmother, Mary Blackstock.

COLSON, Mary
WALTERBORO - Mrs. Mary Jane Craven Colson, 72, of 699 Phillips Road, died Monday at Oakwood Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, at the chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Bedon Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Colson was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Essie Craven and Josie Bazzlee Craven. She was a member of Four Square Gospel Church.
Surviving are her husband, James Monroe Colson, a son, Michael M. Colson of Walterboro, daughter, Barbara J. Colson Harrison of Walterboro, sisters, Elizabeth Craven Cutlip of Walterboro, Doris Craven Hilliar of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marjorie Craven Spivey of Greenville, Fla., four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
