DAWKINS, Bert
COLUMBIA - Services for Bert Alvin Dawkins, 76, will be held at 4pm Wednesday in Westside Holiness Church, conducted Reverend J.E. Jeffcoat, with burial at Elmwood cemetery. Mr. Dawkins, widower of Iva Lucille Dawkins, died Saturday, August 24, 2002. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late William Mack and Mary Jane Martin Dawkins. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Dawkins was a member of Westside Holiness Church and was retired from Willis Ford Insulating Company. He was a member of VFW Post 641. Surviving are his daughters, Judy Pooser of North Charleston, Linda Elliott of Cayce, and Gladys Stone of Columbia; sons, Paul Smokey Dawkins of Meggett and Bert H. Dawkins of Surfside Beach; step-daughter, Mary Jeffcoat of Swansea; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Pearl Davis and Wilma Bolick.
PROCTOR, Dalton
ST. GEORGE, S.C. - Dalton O. (Dick) Proctor, age 82 of 360 Bluebird Trail, St. George and 863 Wood Road, Green Pond, SC died Saturday August 24, 2002 in Oakwood Health Care Center Walterboro, SC.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Watson and Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the St. George cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at BRYANT FUNERAL HOME, ST. GEORGE.
Mr. Proctor was born September 11, 1919 in Grover a son of the late Maxey Gordon Proctor and Mattie Lou Bell Proctor. He was a Retired Surveyor with U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Colleton County and a farmer. A member of Grover United Methodist Church, he also attended Green Pond Baptist Church. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Harry Wilson Proctor.
Surviving, wife, Hilda Hickman Wood Proctor, Green Pond, 2 step-sons, Donald (Bobbie) Wood and Richard (Patsy) Wood, both of Green Pond, 3 sisters, Ollie P. Weathers, and Betty Carole P.(Gene) Meyer, both St. George and Grace P. Barnes, Chesapeake, VA, 2 Step-Grandchildren and 3 Step-Great-Grandchildren, Nephews, William (Butch) Proctor, Peter D. Weathers, Jr., Russell A. Weathers, Brett T. Meyer and Nieces, Barbara P. Tison, Teresa B. Talbot, Melanie M. Pendarvis and 6 grand Nieces and Nephews.

SCHMOYER, Gladys
Gladys A. Schmoyer, 86, of North Charleston and formerly of Allentown, PA, wife of Alvin H. Schmoyer, died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Heartland Nursing Center.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2002 at 9:30 AM in Carolina Memorial Park.
Mrs. Schmoyer was born in Allentown, PA. She was a daughter of the late Edward and Laura Park LaWall. She was a member of St. George Episcopal Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Schmoyer was a graduate of Temple University.
Surviving are her husband, Alvin H. Schmoyer; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn M. Miller of North Charleston; two grandchildren, Terri Carlson of Centreville, VA, David L. Miller of Chesterfield, VA; two great-grandchildren, Corey Miller and Alyssa Miller.
Mrs. Schmoyer was predeceased by a son, David E. Miller.

FREDEY, Dorothy
Dorothy Louise Gotshall Fredey, 86, of Summerville, widow of Jean Maurice Fredey, died Monday evening at her residence.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, August 30, 2002 in New Town cemetery, Sudbury, Massachusetts.

Mrs. Fredey was born on April 26, 1916 in Newton, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Thomas D. Gotshall and Mary E. Abbott Gotshall. She was a retired owner of Post Road Studios in Sudbury, Mass. She designed notepaper for Cape Shore, Inc. She won two awards for her Tole painting, and sold decorated furniture to department stores in Boston, Mass. She worked 9 years in a craft group to raise money for St. Paul's Episcopal, also volunteered for the children's in Boston, Mass., and gave benefits to raise money for play rooms and a chapel at the hospital. She taught classes for thirty years in decorating furniture and tray paintings. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Jeanne Harding of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Judith Militzer of Summerville, SC; 3 grandchildren, Christian Militzer of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Richard Harding of Merrimack, NH, Robert Harding of Naples, FL; 5 great-grandchildren.

Leon Allen Winningham, Sr., 83, of North Charleston, widower of Rose Marie Croghan Winningham and Juanita Pye Winningham, died Friday, August 23, 2002, at a local hospital. Mr. Winningham was born November 28, 1918, in Charleston, S.C., a son of the late Charles and Rachel Keenan Winningham. He was raised in Charleston Orphanage and graduated from Bennett & Murray Vocational High School. Mr. Winningham retired from Wicks Lumber after 25 years as a cabinet maker and salesman earning the "Million Dollar" sales award in 1978. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 122, and the Greater Charleston Bowling Association. Mr. Winningham was a coach with the St. Andrews Parks and Playground Department and was active in the Young at Heart Softball League of Hanahan. He is survived by four sons, Michael A. Winningham and Leon A. Winningham, Jr., both of North Charleston, Clarence G. Winningham of Hanahan and Walter O. Winningham of Charleston, three daughters, Linda W. Stewart of Cottageville, S.C., Deborah W. Chiola of Summerville and Catherine L. Douglas of De Sota, Texas, a brother, Charles H. Winningham, Jr., and a sister, Helen Roberson both of Awendaw, S.C., 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She graduated from Jefferson High School, and received her BS in Business from Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Springfield, Va. She was an avid reader and gourmet cook.
Mrs. Broadus was employed as an accounting assistant with Great Beach Regimes, Kiawah Island. She was an accounts receivable manager, Kiawah Island Resorts. Mrs. Broadus was a Senior Business Analyst for Litton/PRC, McLean, Va.; business manager, Columbus Hospice, Inc., Columbus, Ga.; a buyer for Garfinckel's, Washington, D.C.; assistant manager of contracts and office administration for M. Rosenblatt & Son, Arlington, Va.
She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col James C. Broadus, U.S. Army retired, her father, one sister, Gig Harris and husband John of Raleigh, N.C., two step-sons, James C. Broadus, Jr., and Barry M. Broadus of Fairfax, Va., one step-daughter, Nancy Anne Dunn of Little Rock, Ark., and six step-grandchildren.

Mr. Todd was born June 17, 1935, in Whiteville, N.C., the son of James W. Todd and Geneva Nunnery. He retired as a merchant seaman.
He is survived by his wife of John's Island; two sons, Robert A. Todd and Andrew J. Todd, both of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Roy L. Todd of Whiteville, N.C.
