PRICE, Joan
Joan Winterrowd Price, 86, of Charleston died Monday, October 21stat a local nursing home. Born in Marshall, ILL to the late Donald E. and Gladys I. Nichols Winterrowd, Mrs. Price retired from The Courier Newspaper located in Findlay, OH after 20 years of service as an administrator and occasional writer for the paper. In her retirement she was a volunteer at the Charleston Museum and created over 500 padded coat hangers for the museum’s collection of historical garments. She also enjoyed auditing classes at the College of Charleston and had a lifelong interest in antiques. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Findlay, OH, as well as a member of D.A.R. and the Gibbes Art Museum. She was the widow of Eugene L. Price and was predeceased by a sister, Rachel Wallen. Surviving Mrs. Price is her daughter, Erica P. Lesesne of Charleston, a son, Derek W. W. Price of Mansfield, MA, a sister, Polly W. Weis of Gainesville, FL, and four grandchildren, Emma J. Lesesne, Daniel S. Lesesne, IV and Nichole and Julia Price. DENNIS, Kathryn
Mrs. Kathryn Roberts Dennis, 95, of St. Stephen, S.C., widow of Moultrie Quirk Roberts and Richard Chaplin Dennis, died Monday morning in a Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, October 23, 2002, at the Graveside in Magnolia cemetery, Charleston. Burial will follow. Friends may call at the ST. STEPHEN CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this Tuesday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Omar Temple Crippled Children's Fund, P.O. Mrs. Dennis was born December 14, 1906, in Bonneau, S.C., a daughter of Caswell Middleton Jones and Jessie Hart Jones. She was a member of the Rehobeth United Methodist Church. Mrs. Dennis was also a member of the French Huguenot Society of SC, Milcah Temple #77 of the Daughters of the Nile, White Shrine, American Legion Auxiliary Dept. Post #10, Amaranth, and the Charleston Pharmaceutical Auxiliary. She was predeceased in death by two daughters, Irene Quirk Roberts and Ida Roberts Hiott, and a grandson, Steven Buist Hiott.
Surviving are two daughters, Aurelia Roberts Allen of Mt. Pleasant and Katherine Roberts Kendrick of Sumter; two sons, Moultrie Quirk Roberts, Jr., of Hilton Head and Joseph Rhame Roberts of Sumter; one sister, Minnie Jones Bell of Charleston; one brother, Jesse Hart Jones of St. Stephen; 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 18, 2002, First Sergeant Wilmer Stretch, United States Marine Corps, (retired), widower of Jenell McConnell Stretch. Residence, Goose Creek, S.C.

Mr. Stretch was born August 2, 1921, in Salem County, New Jersey, and served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps having been in Guadacanal during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After retirement from the Corps he served as a warden with the Federal Prison System. Mr. Stretch was a life member and one of the founders of V.F.W. Post #10256, Goose Creek, S.C. His Fellow Marines and the V.F.W. members will sorely miss our comrade of the "Greatest Generation" and we wish you "Fair Winds and Following Seas."
Surviving are his son, William Stretch of New York City, N.Y., his brother, Captain Roy Stretch, United States Navy (retired) of Clearwater, Fla., sister, Mildred S. Petit of Arizona and niece Anita Mahoney of South Carolina.
BRANDT, E. Mary

Mrs. Brandt, 70, was born in Charleston, S.C., on March 9, 1932, the daughter of Artie O. and Minnie Hart Sharpe. She was a member of First Christian Church of Charleston (Disciples of Christ) and was a homemaker. Mrs. Brandt was known in the local area for making greeting cards for children and their families at the Ronald McDonald House and the MUSC Childrens Hospital. She also enjoyed writing poetry.
Surviving are her son, Robert Orvin Brandt, Jr., of Charleston, S.C.; her daughter, Sandra B. Martiz of Goose Creek, S.C.; two grandchildren, Diego A. Martiz and Brianna N. Martiz both of Goose Creek, S.C.
HELANDER, Grace
Grace H. Helander of Charleston, died Friday, October 18, in a hospital in Greenwood, S.C. Born in Valdosta, Ga., to the late Alonzo and Eva Dugid Holmes. She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry V. Helander and her second husband, Hutson M. Helander. Surviving Mrs. Helander are her two daughters, Florence Forbes and her husband Robin of Manistee, Michigan, and Vickie Kelley of Greenwood, S.C., and a son, Hutson M. Helander, Jr., of Charleston. Surviving also are six grandchildren, Larry W. Elsey, Jr., Brian Bell, Terri Alexander, Tracy Bell, Michael Bell, and Hannah Helander, and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. SPLAWN, Jacqueline
IRMO - A memorial service for Mrs. Jacqueline Evelyn Ramsey Splawn will be held on Sunday, October 27, at 2:00 PM at the Hugh Dimmery Memorial Center, 680 Cherokee Lane, Springdale, SC 29169. Mrs. Splawn, 67, wife of the late Mr. Kenneth Splawn, died Sunday, October 20, 2002 at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia. She was the daughter of the late John Clinton and Dorothy Batson Ramsey, and a native of Atlanta, GA.
Before moving to Irmo two years ago, she had lived in North Charleston, SC. She was an active member in the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW for 46 years, serving as President of District 1, S.C. Chief of Staff, and five times as President of the Ladies Auxiliary for Post 3142. She was a member of Celebration Community Church.
Survivors include her three sons; William Splawn, Robert Splawn, and Bradley Splawn, all of South Carolina; brother, Danny Tittle of Charleston and five grandchildren. Memorial contributions should be directed to: (VFW Post 3142, Charleston, SC or to The American Cancer Society).

Ruby Droze Savage, 78, of Adams Run, wife of Richard L. Savage, died Monday morning at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 2 o'clock in Adams Run Baptist Church, 8113 Hwy. 162, Adams Run. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Savage was born April 4, 1924 in Berkeley County, a daughter of the late Jim and Gertrude Broad Droze. She attended schools in Berkeley County. She was a former employee with Manhattan Shirt Factory. She was a member of Adams Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are: her husband of Adams Run; 6 daughters: Jody Riles of Moncks Corner, Terry Molica of Vista, CA, Judy Sampsel of Vista, CA, Kay Beneventano of Summerville, Lynn Valentine of Ravenel, Tonya Guzman of Jacksonboro, SC; 2 sons: Randy Arrant and Denny Arrant, both of Atlanta; 2 step-daughters: Lori McMillan of North Charleston and Elaine Raby of Greensboro, GA; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; 1 sister: Myrtle Tumbleston of Moncks Corner. She will be missed dearly by her beloved and devoted friend Dolly Webster.

LODGE - Jackson Robert Carter, infant son of Larry Madison and Melissa Cook Carter, died Saturday, October 19, 2002 in the Medical University of South Carolina.
