O'NEAL, JR., Robert
Robert E. O'Neal, Jr., of Houston, Texas, died Saturday, October 19, 2002, in Austin, Texas. Mr. O'Neal was born July 24, 1938, in Hartsville, S.C. He was the son of Robert E. O'Neal and Julia Carroll O'Neal. He is survived by his mother of Summerville; a son, Robert E. O'Neal, III, and wife, Dorothy Of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Catharine O'Neal Marsh and husband Jack of Fayetteville, Tenn.; and Barrett O'Neal Bumgardner and husband, Ben of Gastonia, N.C.; and seven grandchildren. Mr. O'Neal graduated from Summerville High School and the University of the South, Sewanee. He was a resident of Houston, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 24, 2002, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Summerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Circle of Life Hospice, 125 Sam Bass Road, Suite C, Round Rock, Texas, 78681.
CANNON, James
FARRELL, PA - James Francis Cannon, 66, formerly of Salters, SC, died Saturday morning at his residence in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Cannon was born in Lane, SC, a son of Josephine Medlin Cannon and William A. Cannon. He attended Williamsburg County schools and retired as a long distance truck driver. Mr. Cannon was a former member of Lane Presbyterian Church and was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Cannon.
Survivors: wife, Helen G. Cannon of Rincon, GA; 4 sons, Wendell Cannon of St. Stephens, Wesley Cannon Dyson (Buckshot) of Manning, Tommy Cannon of Sumter, Marty Bryant of Johnsonville; 5 daughters, Brenda Diggers of Turbeville, Cathy C. Barnwell of Rincon, GA, Georgette Cannon of Myrtle Beach, Manda Tisdale of Greeleyville, Jane Cannon of West Middlesex, PA; 3 stepsons, Kenny Driggers, Laverne Driggers (Willie) of Sumter, Andy Soakie of Erie, PA; 3 stepdaughters, Bonnie Rueberger, Cindy Gassner, and Dawn Totten, all of PA; 2 brothers, Harry Cannon of Salters and Steve Cannon of Florence; 2 sisters, Jeanette Smith of Kingstree and Lois Braxton of Alcolu; 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Wednesday in the WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL. The family will receive visitors from 6 - 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. The family asks that memorials be made to the Francis Cannon Memorial Fund at the Exchange Bank of SC, c/o Brenda Driggers.

Ms. Donna Gail Barker was born September 13, 1956 in Portsmouth, Virginia, the daughter of Romain E. Barker, Sr. and Laura Harrison Barker. She retired as a restaurant manager in Florida. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston. She volunteered for the Red Cross.
She is survived by her mother of James Island, SC and three brothers: Vance E. Barker, Michael A. Barker, and Romain E. Barker, Jr., all of James Island, SC.

He was a tenth grade student at Summerville High School, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an avid sports fan, a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and attended Summerville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents of Summerville; two brothers, Andrew and Drake Bazzle; one sister, Grace Lynn Bazzle of Summerville; paternal grandfather, Mood W. Bazzle of Cottageville, SC; his maternal grandparents, Art and Veda Williamson of Walterboro; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

MILLER, SR., William
GEORGETOWN - William Daniel Miller, Sr., 83, died Monday, August 19, 2002, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at 1 p.m., in Nesmith Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Craig B. Cribb. Burial, directed by GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, will follow in Piney Forest cemetery.
He was born July 5, 1919, in Georgetown County, a son of the late Steven Augustus Miller and Henrietta Cribb Miller.
He retired from International Paper in 1982 with 36 years of service and later retired from the Georgetown County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs after eight years of service. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1945. He was educated in the Georgetown County Schools. He was an accomplished musician and was a member of the Happy Land Gospel Singers. He was a member of Nesmith Baptist Church and the Senior Men's Sunday School Class.
Surviving are, his loving wife and friend for 56 years, Jennie Lee Goude Miller; two sons, Larry Wayne (Joe) Miller and W.D. Miller, Jr., both of Georgetown; four daughters, Patsy M. McCrea and Mary M. Etheridge both of Georgetown, Kay Frances M. Turner of Andrews and Amy M. Burkett of Columbia; one brother, John Wesley Miller of Georgetown; 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Billy Paul Miller on April 28, 1992.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
DUANE, SR., John
John Phillip Duane, Sr., 93, of Charleston, died Sunday, August 18, 2002, at a local nursing center. He was born in Charleston to the late Joseph H. and Mattie Murphy Duane. He attended Bishop-England High School and retired in 1973 from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Starney Duane and his son, John P. Duane, Jr. He is survived by two sons, Joseph P. Duane of Tampa, Fla., and Michael Duane of James Island, a daughter, Donna Duane Cervini of John's Island, two brothers, Walter V. Duane and Joseph Duane, a sister, Gertrude Duane Clark, all of Charleston, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation tonight from 6 to 8 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m., at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St. A liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Nativity Catholic Church, with interment in Holy Cross cemetery. Mr. Jewell was born on December 20, 1916, in Cumberland, Md., a son of the late William and Rosa Jenkins Jewell. He attended Pennsylvania Avenue School in Cumberland, Md. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Guam during W.W.II. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves after 22 years of service. Mr. Jewell was employed with the Kelly Springfield Tire Company for 28 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 06452 in Ridgeley, W.Va., a member of the American Legion Post #166 in Goose Creek, S.C., the Forty & Eight Voiture 1067 in Goose Creek, S.C., and the Outdoor Club in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are his wife of Goose Creek, S.C.; two daughters, Bonnie J. Marrale and husband Jim of Goose Creek, S.C., and Sharon McKinney and husband Dan of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, William L. Jewell and wife Anne of McKinney, Texas, and Steve W. Jewell of Cumberland, Md.; four sisters, Mattie Fayman of Frostburg, Md., Bette Reynolds and husband Louis of Cumberland, Md., Jean Cooley of Bedford, Pa., Shirley Stoner and husband Richard of Little Orleans, Md.; one brother, Daryl "Ace" Jewell and wife Pat of Glen Allen, Va.; one foster brother, Albert Earnest of Cumberland, Md.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild expected in September. He was predeceased by three brothers, Randy, Boyd, and Kenneth Jewell. He will also be missed dearly by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

CANNADY, Walter
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Walter Kisler Cannady, 84, of 400 Webber Road, Apt. C1-6, formerly of Green River Road, Gaffney, died Sunday, August 18, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Rock Hill, S.C., he was the son of the late Walter Kisler Cannady, Sr., and Reba Watson Cannady and the husband of Mae Ella (Mary) Goforth Cannady. He retired as the Captain of Special Services Agents with Southern Railway. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where he served as a Deacon and Usher, was a member of the Young at Heart, served at Ladies First Thursday, was a member of the Men's Prayer Fellowship, and was a member and officer of Bob Morgan's Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Granard Masonic Lodge #186 of Gaffney and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Linda Parson and her husband Dave of Goldsboro, N.C.; a son, Walter K. Cannady, Jr., of Gaffney; a sister, Betty Hunter of Charleston; a brother, John Cannady of Charleston; a daughter-in-law, Joyce D. Cannady of Charleston; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry W. Cannady of Charleston and a brother, Watson Cannady of Charleston.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton, the Rev. Bill Adams, and the Rev. Robert C. Morgan.
