John Henry Delk, of Olar, S.C., husband of Elousie C. Delk, passed away August 18, 2002, at a Bamberg County hospital.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at 4 p.m., at Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Dan Boineau and Rev. Jerry Fail will officiate.
Born October 22, 1914, in Blackville, S.C., Mr. Delk was the son of the late Charles Henry Delk and the late Essie Earl Atterberry. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Olar, S.C.
Mr. Delk retired after 20 years with the U.S. Marine Corp. He also worked for the National Fastner of Barnwell, S.C. He enjoyed gardening, helping people, was a Mason and an Eastern Star Worthying Patron for 11 years. He was a Deacon, Discipleship Training Director, Brother Hood Director, and General Secretary at Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include, his wife, three daughters, Johnnie Ruth Morrow of Blackville, S.C., Betty Jean Riddle and Grace Laverne Horton, both of Barnwell; one son, William Gary "Billy" Collins of Olar, S.C.; one granddaughter, Joan Marie Ulmer of Orangeburg; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sara D. Rotz and Marjorie D. Barry, and one brother, David Delk.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 20, 2002, 7 to 9 p.m., at COONER FUNERAL HOME. Memorials to be made to the Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, Olar, S.C. 29483.
MARTIN, Judith
Judith Marie Martin, 60, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died Friday, August 16, 2002 in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Lee Martin are invited to attend the Funeral Liturgy of the latter Tuesday, August 20, 2002 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, Mt. Pleasant, SC at 2:00 o'clock. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel one hour prior to service.
Mrs. Martin was born in La Porte, IN, a daughter of George Hill and Hazel Riley. She graduated from Rolling Prairie Indiana High School, Class of 1960.
Surviving are her husband of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her mother of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sons, Todd Allen Martin of Kenly, NC, Stacy Lee Martin of Mount Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Joeylyne Marie Phillips of North Charleston, SC, Kelye Dyan Wallace of Syracuse, Indiana; one brother, George Hill, Jr. of La Porte, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Eric Martin, Anthony Martin, Kristen Pizzino, Hannah Vavryshko, Danyl Wallace, Erin Wallace, and Dylan Wallace. She was preceded in death by her father, George Hill.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the family.
BENGE, Nina
COCOA, FLA. - Nina L. (Dennis) Benge, 67, died Friday, August 16, 2002, at a Florida hospital.
Mrs. Benge moved to Brevard County in the 1960's from her hometown of Andrews, S.C.
She worked for Bellsouth for 31 years, before retiring.
Mrs. Benge was a member of the College Park Church of God in Cocoa.
She is survived by her husband of nine years, Arnold Benge of Cocoa; and her son, Thomas Wylie of Rockledge.
Mrs. Benge was predeceased by her parents, Casey and Sadie B. Jones.
Calling hours were held Monday, August 19, at Florida Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, August 20, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at Florida Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the College Park Church of God, 1957 Rosetine Street, Cocoa, Fla.

WINN, Mary
Mary Cornelia Winn, 73, resident of 211 Marshall Ave., August 19, 2002, at Abbeville County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Abbeville, July 29, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Claude A. Winn, Sr., and Amy Uldrick Winn. She retired as office manager from Little River Electric Co-Op after 45 years service.
A member of Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church, she was also a member of the choir and Sunday School teacher of the church. Ms. Winn was the treasurer of Long Cane cemetery and was a member and treasurer of the Long Cane Canites.
Survivors include three sisters, Sarah Newton of Yonges Island, Lorraine Edwards of Greenwood and Mrs. Ernest (Jean) Bowden of Parsonsburg, Md.; two brothers, Thomas Winn of Abbeville and Jerry Winn of the home; a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Claude "Dolph" Winn and Robert Winn.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church with Rev. Massey officiating.
Burial will be in Long Cane cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stan Newton, Louie Newton, Claude Newton, Tommy Winn, Cliff Ford, Owen Uldrick, Don Trent, James Timms and Lee Newton.
Honorary escort will be Roland White, Jimmy Finley, Al Dansby, Henry McCord, R.A. Hagen, Dr. David Martin and Dr. Robert Todd.
The body is at Harris Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 12 noon, Wednesday.
The family is at the home on Marshall Ave., and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9, Tuesday evening.
Memorials may be made to Upper Long Cane Presbyterian Church, 194 Hwy. 20, Abbeville, S.C., or to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615.

Mrs. Montrose was born in Florence, SC, the daughter of J. Lonnie Hewitt and Amelia Woodrow Hewitt. She was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Boineau of Goose Creek, SC, Christine Power of Summerville, SC, Donna Montrose of North Charleston, SC; two grandchildren, Lindsay Power, and Andrew Power; one brother, Bobby Hewitt of Evergreen, SC; two sisters, Edna Thames of Florence, SC, Annie Bell Taylor of Columbia, SC.

ROBERTS, Marie
Marie Louise LaRoche Roberts died at her residence and birthplace, 180 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, SC on Monday morning, August 19, 2002.
She was born January 30, 1916, a daughter of Arthur Danesbury ("Mr. Lary") LaRoche and Lizzie Stewart Thomas LaRoche.
She began her education with Miss Sally Carew. She graduated from Ashley Hall in 1934 and the College of Charleston in 1938. At the latter two institutions, she excelled in athletics. She was an active and loyal alumna of both schools.
Between 1940 and 1944, she taught fourth and fifth grades at Craft Elementary School. She returned to teaching in 1950, at James Simons Elementary School where she taught first and second grades until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Central Council of Charleston Teachers where she served one term as President. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization for honored teachers, for thirty-four years.
She was an American Red Cross life guard and swimming instructor at the George Burgess Memorial Municipal Pool. She also taught swimming at the YWCA, the Citadel and Navy Yard Pools, as well as the West VaCo Club Pool.
She was a life long Episcopalian and an active communicant of Grace Episcopal Church for sixty years. She taught church school there for thirty years. She was active with the Episcopal Church Women where she used her talents, in Charleston Krumkake Wafer making, sewing, ceramics, and woodworking to contribute to the life of the parish and its mission in the community.
She was predeceased by her sister Amanda Rhame LaRoche (Sr. Mary Joannis, S.M.S.M.), and her husband of forty-six years, John Fount Roberts. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Meri and Richard Dame of Pawley's Island, SC; a son and daughter-in-law, John Arthur and Mimi Roberts of Columbia, SC; five granddaughters, Mrs. Patrick M. Brown (Caroline) of John's Island, SC, Mrs. Mark E. Buchanan (Elizabeth) of Columbia, SC, Jennifer R. Forrester of Anderson, SC, and the Misses Laura Marie and Rebecca W. Roberts of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Hannah and Erin Forrester; a nephew, Thomas Thatch Roberts, III, of Hartselle, Alabama; a niece, Mrs. Paul Doster of LaGrange, Georgia; two first cousins, Y. W. Scarborough, Jr., and Robert B. Scarborough, Sr., of Charleston, SC.
The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral arrangements Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at three o'clock in Grace Episcopal Church. Interment, Magnolia cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Tuesday between five and seven o'clock.
