Raymond Dennis Stephens, 57, of 336 Sardis Road, Union, husband of Evonne Foster Varner Stephens, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at 5:20 a.m. in the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston after an extended illness. Mr. Stephens was born in Union on Aug. 29, 1946, a son of the late Aaron Ozenie Stephens and Martha Holt Stephens. He attended Fairforest Baptist Church and was employed as a long haul truck driver for Para-Chem Company.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Charles Aaron Stephens of McCormick, Bradley Cecil Stephens and Matthew David Northern, both of Union; two stepsons, Scott Varner of Spartanburg and Michael Varner of Union; two brothers, Aaron Cecil Stephens and Donald Kent Stephens, both of Union; and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Stephens was predeceased by a son, Stanley Dewayne Stephens. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. J.B. Cargill and Rev. Brad Goodale. Burial will be in the Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael Yarborough, David Stephens, Kent Stephens, Eddie Gilbert, Joey Northern and Darrell Stephens.
The following are asked to assemble at the funeral chapel Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort, Johnnie Gibson, Tommy Northern, Pat Patterson and Mike Mycowski and Mark Humble. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9. The family is at the home, 336 Sardis Road, Union and at the home of his son, Brad Stephens, 523 Browns Creek Road, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Jesse Norman Sr.
Jesse Norman Sr., 75, of 105 Standpipe St., husband of Claudia Mae Norman, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Norman was born in Union County on Aug. 24, 1928, a son of the late Tim Norman Sr. and Isabelle Young Norman. He was a 1949 graduate of Sims High School, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Corinth Baptist Church where he served on the Senior Choir and Missionary Circle #3. Mr. Norman was an employee of Union Dry Cleaners for many years and was also an employee of Torrington and Pinkerton Security. He was also the Wishful Master of Martin Luther King Masonic Lodge #22.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Beverly Norman Jeter of the home, Janice (Dominic) Gist and Myrtle Jean (Corey) Sims, both of Union; two sons, Jesse Norman Jr. and Robin K. Norman of Union; one grandchild, Cherva J. Jeter of the home; seven additional grandchildren; a special and devoted friend, Lyde Gibson of Union; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Corinth Baptist Church in Union with the Rev. James A. Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in the Rosemont Cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. Viewing and visitation will be today from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family is at the home, 105 Standpipe St., Union. The Carolina Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.

Henry Allen Hampton
Henry Allen Hampton, 73, widower of Emma Jeter Hampton, of 3117 Berry Farm Road, died Oct. 4, 2002 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. He was born in Asheville, N.C., the son Tecoria Hampton. He was a logger and was retired from the warehouse department at Cone Mills.
Surviving in addition to his mother are three sons, Randolph, Thomas and James Jeter, all of the home; six daughters, Bernice (Calvin) Land, Yvonne Chick and Sallie (Bruce) Rice, all of Carlisle; Carrie Jeter of Stubenville, Ohio; Annie Rose (Roy) Dugger of Greenville and Charlotte (Leophus) Crank of Santuc; 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Whitney Funeral Home by Rev. James Lyles.
Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Crank in Santuc. The family is at 3103 Berry Farm Road. Public viewing will be today from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Lois Lee Jeter
Lois Lee Jeter, former native of Union, died Oct. 5, 2002, in Columbus, Ohio, at the home of her sister. Miss Jeter was born in Union County, a daughter of the late William and Hallie Jeter.
Surviving are five sisters, Lillie Thompson of Greenville, Augusta Ann Weeks, Emma Norman, Phyllis (Edward) Ellis all of Union and Hallie R. Thomas of Columbus, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel by the Rev. McElroy Hughes. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Gibson and Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Dorothy S. Faulks
Dorothy Sprouse Faulks, 72, wife of Jimmy Faulks of 206 Arthur St., Union, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at 6 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Faulks was born in Union on Aug. 9, 1931, a daughter of the late John Sprouse and Alma and Forrest Wix. She was a Baptist.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sisters: Margaret Wade and Judy Bobo, both of Union and Barbara Bishop of Spartanburg; two brothers, Robert Sprouse of Buffalo and Donald Sprouse of Georgia; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Sarah F. and Gerald Greene of the home, and a niece, Tammy Calhoun of the home.
Mrs. Faulks was predeceased by two sons: Larry and Terry Sprouse; and two brothers, Marvin and James Sprouse. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ricky Cook.
Burial will be in the Inman Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Bobo, Terry Sprouse, Wayne Calhoun, Timmy Fowler, Wayne Martin, Scotty O'Shields, Kevin Knox and Gene Gault. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9. The family is at the home, 206 Arthur St., Union. The S.R. Lillie Ruth Gibson
Lillie Ruth (Boose) Palmer Gibson, 77, wife of Ed Gibson of 231 Wesley Chapel Road, Union, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, 2003, in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mrs. Gibson was born in Union on Dec. 15, 1925, a daughter of the late J.T. Palmer Sr. and Mary Vaughan Palmer. She was a member of Philippi Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Gibson provided child care in her home for many years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters and sons-in-law: Becky and Bobby Hyatt, Cindy and Bruce Kendrick, all of Buffalo and Pam Shetley of Inman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Rhonda Gibson, Eddie and Bonnie Gibson, all of Union; a sister, Azilee Vaughn of Union; a brother, J.T. Palmer Jr. of Union; 10 grandchildren: Bob Hyatt, Thad Hyatt, Matt Hyatt, Heidi Hodge, Tabitha Kendrick, Donya Sumner, Garrett Gibson, Nathan Gibson, Adam Gibson and Nicole Gibson; and two great-grandchildren: Jacob Taylor and Kaylyn Hodge.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Philippi Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Goodale and the Rev. Tim Huckaby. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Joey Haney, Wayne Palmer, Todd Palmer, Mark Gregory, Brad Parris and Kevin Farr.
Members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class are asked to sit in a group. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 and will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Thursday to await the hour of service.

Marvin A. Lipsey
Marvin Albert Lipsey, 60, husband of Dale Ford Lipsey of 180 Forty-Nine Loop, Union, died at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at 2:05 a.m. after several years of declining health. Mr. Lipsey was born in Jonesville on July 25, 1943, a son of Pearl Baldwin Lipsey of Jonesville and the late Willie Lipsey. He was a member of Ottaray Baptist Church and a member of the Show-N-Shine Car Club. Mr. Lipsey was retired from Torrington Company, Tyger River Plant.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are three daughters and sons-in-law: Wendy L. Harris and her special friend, Mark Williams, Renae H. and Jimmy Duncan and Robin H. and Jimmy Belue, all of Union; three grandchildren: Christin Harris, Casey Duncan and Jason Belue; three sisters: Shirley Moss of Union, Della Whitt of Pacolet and Peggy Henderson of Jonesville; and two brothers: Millard Lipsey of Union and Roger Dale Lipsey of Jonesville.
Mr. Lipsey was predeceased by three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Ottaray Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Bobby Crocker and the Rev. Robert Branch. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Bobby Carl Prince
Bobby Carl (Cotton) Prince, 67, of Ware Shoals, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, in Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood. Mr. Prince was born in Union County on July 20, 1936, a son of the late James Virgil and Mary Vinson Prince. He was retired from Clinkscales Chevrolet of Belton.
Surviving are a son, B.J. Prince, and a daughter, Julie Prince, both of the home; five brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Jean Prince of Kentucky, Tommy and Rita Prince, David and Becky Prince, Robert and Pansy Prince and John and Sue Prince, all of Union; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ray Britten of Georgia; and five grandchildren.

Brenda Joyce Redmon
Brenda Joyce (Jo) Redmon, 60, of Ozark, Ala., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, in Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala. Mrs. Redmon was born in Union County on May 15, 1943, a daughter of the late James Arthur and Dorothy Pruitt Coleman. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Carol Gene Redmon; four sons, Frankie Redmon and Derek Redmon of the home, Kirby and Kathy Redmon of North Carolina, and Arthur and Cindy Redmon of Dothan, Ala.; a daughter, Lynn and Pat Morman of Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Pansy and Robert Prince of Union. Douglas Hawkins Sr.
CHESTER Douglas (Doug) McArthur Hawkins Sr., 60, of 589 Brendale Drive, died Oct. 7, 2002 in Columbia. A native of Asheville, he was retired from Metromont Materials and was a retired wrestler known as (Honest Doug). He was a member of Cornerstone Family Worship in York.
Surviving are his wife, Billie Teal Hawkins; a son, Douglas (Doug) McArthur Hawkins Jr. of Chester; daughters, Terri Ford and her husband Joe and Pat McWaters and her husband, Doug, all of Chester; Brenda Fain and her husband, Charles, Linda Woody and her husband, Lorenzo, Francis (Teresa) Knighton and Louise Fowler, all of Spartanburg County; two brothers, Richard Hawkins of Spartanburg County and Wade Hawkins of Rock Hill; a sister, Joyce Magnum of Union; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel by Rev. Lee Teal assisted by Revs. Marty McNinch and Mamie Mitchum. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road. Visitation will be tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 155 E. White Street, Rock Hill and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Chester Active Adult Daycare, 609 Columbia Road, Chester, S.C. 29706. Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Warren C. Melton
CHESTER Warren Clifford (Poss) Melton, 83, of 177 West Elliott St., husband of Annie Duncan Melton, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at his home. Mr. Melton was born in Chester County on Aug. 25, 1920, a son of the late John Jacob and Cora Dodds Melton. He was a member and deacon at Parkway Baptist Church and was a member of the Men's #3 Sunday School Class. He attended Chester County Schools and was retired from Springs Industries.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Linda) Cassels of Union and Mrs. Donnie (Dale) Wingate of Chester; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ed Melton of Chester and Richard Melton of Greenwood. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Parkway Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. R.B. Ashley.
Burial will be in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Barron Funeral Home in Chester. Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Care, 325 South Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, 29730; or to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Parkway Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1227, Chester, 29706.
