ANDREWS, SC - Sandra Avant, 56, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 in Williamsburg Regional Hospital in Kingstree.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 4:00 PM at her residence, 411 Highway 521 in Andrews. Officiating will be Rev. W. B. Avant, III. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Andrew's Memorial cemetery.
She was born September 27, 1945 in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Lois Ruby Player Avant and the late William Benjamin Avant, Sr.
She attended Williamsburg County Schools and was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are: her mother of Andews; one brother, W. B. Avant, Jr. and his wife Susan, of Andrews; one nephew, Rev. W. B. Avant, III and his wife Cindy, of Hartsville; one niece, Beth Williamson and her husband Hank, of Salters; two great-nephews, Michael Christensen of Point of Rocks, Maryland, and Tony Self of Hartsville; two great-nieces, Ashley Jarrett of Salters, and Felicity Thibodeau of Hartsville.

She was born September 23, 1902 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of T. Bissell Anderson and Nellie Turner Anderson. She was a member of The Second Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by on niece, Bette Anderson Powers of Charleston, SC; three cousins, Dr. R. Maxwell Anderson of Charleston, SC, Henry M. Anderson of Charleston, SC, and Jane A. Wilbur of Massachusetts.

PEARSON, Betty
GREER, SC - Betty Jean Pearson, of 2839 Nantuckett Avenue, North Charleston, SC, died Wednes, August 14, 2002, after some years of declining health.
A native of Greer, she was the daughter of the late Wesley E. and Nora Whitten Goodson. Residing with her husband John, she was a member of the United Methodist Church. Betty accompanied her husband on tours of duty both stateside and overseas, where she worked as a federal employee while stationed at several military bases. Betty was a full time homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Surviving are: her husband, John Henry Pearson of the home; four children, Phyllis Noreen Slaton of Pittsburgh, PA, Pamilla Jean Pearson of Wasilla, AL, John Wesley Pearson of Springfield, VA, and Jay Adam Pearson of Lyman, SC; four grandsons; three granddaughters; and one great-grandson. Mrs. Pearson was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Rev. Richard Jenkins. Burial will follow in Mtn. View cemetery.
Honorary escort will be the Masons in attendance.
Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday at the Wood Mortuary.
The family is at the home of a son, Jay Adam Pearson, 4 Crescent Street, Lyman.

ROBERSON, Lemuel
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of August 13, 2002, the Reverend Canon Lemuel Gibbons Roberson, husband of Mary Lou Willets Roberson. Residence, Charleston, SC. The Rev. Canon Roberson was born December 31, 1919 in Henderson, North Carolina, the son of Lemuel G. Roberson and Artelia Stanton Roberson. He was a graduate of Barton College and Virginia Theological Seminary. Following seminary, he served as Rector of several churches in North Carolina. He served as rector of The Church of The Holy Cross on Sullivan's Island from 1965 - 1983 and as Episcopal Chaplain for the Citadel from 1984 - 1996.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; three daughters, Elizabeth R. Goodwin of Beaufort, NC, Jane R. Milligan of Cheraw, SC, and Martha R. McKevlin of Walterboro, SC; one sister, Gilda G. Leonard of Henderson, NC; three grandchildren, Bryan Goodwin, Jennifer Willis, and Will Milligan; five great-grandchildren.

BALL, Robert
Robert Thomson Ball, 81, passed into heaven, Monday evening, August 12, 2002, after a valiant struggle with cancer. He was born in Charleston, S.C., on May 5, 1921, son of James Austin Ball, MD, and Dorothy Thomson Ball. A lifelong Charleston native, he graduated from the College of Charleston in 1942 with a B.S. in English. He served in ATO fraternity and courted his future wife, the former Elizabeth Martin, who was Miss Charleston for several years.
As an Army Air Corps bomber pilot with Col. Thomas Hall's Bridge Buster Group in Europe, in 1944, Lt. Ball flew B-26 Martin Marauders and received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. Elizabeth and Robert were then married
at First Scots Presbyterian Church in Charleston on October 11, 1944.
He served as office manager at WestVaCo and later became a realtor with Max Hill Co. and subsequently retired as senior realtor at Seabrook Island. He was a member of the Charleston and the S.C. Board of Realtors.
He was a member of the St. Cecilia Society, South Carolina Society, St. Andrews Society, First Families of S.C., John Birch Society, Society of Widows and Orphans, Supper Club Lunch Bunch, Ends of the Earth Society, and numerous other social and civic organizations. He had previously served on the vestry of St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in Charleston and was vestryman and immediate past Senior Warden of St. John's Berkeley (Strawberry Chapel), in the township of Childsbury, Berkeley County.
He was predeceased by his wife in 1992, with whom he is now reunited. He is survived by a large and loving family, especially his five children, Robert T. Ball, Jr., MD (wife Betty Gore) of Columbia, Barbara Austin Ball, of Awendaw, and Mariane Hutson (Molly) Ball of Awendaw, Richard Martin Ball (wife Karen) of Charleston, S.C., and Elizabeth (Betsy) Ingraham Ball Dasburg (husband Scott) of Charleston, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandson, his devoted brother, Frederic MacNaughton Ball, MD, and his wife Carroll and their family.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel. Graveside burial services will be at Strawberry Chapel at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2002. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ball Family Graveyard Fund, St. John's Berkeley, c/o 729 Creekside Drive, Mt.
