Ruth Laurey Villeponteaux, 82, of Charleston died Wednesday, October 16that a local hospital. Born in Charleston to the late James Frances and Ida Elizabeth Bowick Laurey. She was married
to the late James M. Villeponteaux. Mrs. Villeponteaux was a graduate of Bishop England High School and a member of Nativity Catholic Church. She is survived by her son, Billy Villeponteaux and his wife Rachel of Charleston, three daughters, Donna Villeponteaux and her husband David Hopkins of Charleston, Joann Johnston and her husband Jim of Charleston, and Marilu Villeponteaux of Charleston, a brother, Jimmy Laurey and his wife Retta of Folly Beach. Also survived by nine grandchildren, Tommy Balliet, Jamie Balliet, Jason Balliet, Jimmy Villeponteaux, Audrey Hopkins, David Hopkins, Austin Johnston, Casey Johnston, Taylor Searcy and three great-grandchildren. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 11AM Saturday, October 19that Our Lady of Good Counsel located on Folly Beach. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Entered into eternal rest on the morning of Friday, October 18, 2002, Dr. D. Ward Wilson, residence 30, 12th Ave., Charleston, S.C. He is the beloved husband of Mrs. Gladys Seabrook Wilson. The beloved father of Decatur Ward Wilson (Renee), and Dr. Lynette Wilson-Phillips (Renee), and Dr. Lynette Wilson-Phillips (Jonathan), and the brother of Dr. Gwindelle W. Ponder. WEATHERS, Cecil
ST. GEORGE, S.C. - Cecil Miles Weathers, 63, of 100 Carolina Ave., St. George died Thursday, October 17, 2002 at a Charleston area hospital. Funeral Services will be held Saturday 2:00 p.m. at the Old St. George Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Kittrell and Rev. W.T. Doyle officiating. Burial will follow in Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Wimberly, J.J. Huff, Anthony McAlhany, Robert Connelly, Tony Roberts, and Mike Goethe. Mr. Weathers was born February 17, 1939 in St. George a son of the late Andrew Patrick Weathers and Carrie E. Heaton Weathers. He was the Owner of Weathers BP Service Station. He attended St. George Public Schools, served in S.C. Army National Guard and a member and former Deacon of the Old St. George Baptist Church, and a Volunteer Fireman with the St. George Fire Department. Mr. Weathers was predeceased by a son Keith C. Weathers. Surviving are; His Wife, Marie Knight Weathers, St. George, 1 Son, Kevin M. (Jennifer) Weathers, St. George, 2 Daughters Tammy W. (Tony) Way and Elizabeth W. (Rally) Purvis both of St. George 3 Brothers, Joseph (Mick) Weathers, St. George, George P. Weathers, St. George and Roy Lamar Weathers of Goose Creek and Six Grandchildren, Cody Way, Ashton Purvis, Kyle Way, Sarah Purvis, Peyton Weathers and Logan Weathers. SHELOR, Dora
Dora Vipperman Shelor, 93, of Pulaski, Va., died Thursday, October 17, 2002. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born September 25, 1909, in Carroll County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Willie Vipperman and Minda V. Vipperman. She was the wife of Dorsey Shelor for 69 years until his death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma S. Dalton and a sister, Delsie Shelor. She was a member of Bell Spur Primitive Baptist Church, Laurel Fork, Va., for 61 years.
Surviving are, daughter, Vera Terry, Pulaski, Va.; son, Clifford Shelor, Charleston, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth "Tar" Shelor; sons-in-law, Bill Dalton, Hubert Terry; grandchildren, Mrs. Marty "Teresa" Underwood, Mrs. James "Janice" Linkous, Trevor Shelor, Derik Shelor, and Travis Terry; great-grandchildren, Justin Underwood, Corey Underwood, Jordyn Linkous, Ashlee Linkous, Jonathan Shelor, and Caitlin Shelor.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m., from Steven Funeral Chapel with Elder R.L. Hurst and Rev. Jim Linkous officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Friday evening from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m.

WOOTEN, JR., LeRoy
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 17, 2002, Walter LeRoy Wooten, Jr., husband of Deborah Uzzell Wooten. Residence, Charleston, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Walter LeRoy Wooten, Jr., are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Monday, October 21, 2002, at 4 o'clock at the graveside in St. James Episcopal Churchyard, James Island, S.C. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Sunday, between 4 and 6 o'clock.
Mr. Wooten was born August 9, 1923, in Camden, S.C., the son of Walter LeRoy Wooten and Frances Mellichamp Bissell Wooten. He was a graduate of Porter Military Academy and a 1950 graduate of The Citadel. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W.II with the 8th Army Air Corps in Europe. He retired as an insurance investigator with Retail Credit Company. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, James Island, a Life Member and Chaplain for ten years of V.F.W. Post 445, American Legion Post 147, Porter Military Academy Alumni Association and the James Island Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Pauline Wooten Walker of Savannah, Ga., and Sarah Frances Wooten of Charleston, S.C.; one son, Walter LeRoy Wooten, III, of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Sarah Bissell Galloway of Winter Park, Fla.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two step-sons, William Marshall Moore of Johns Island, S.C., and R. Alan Moore, Jr., of Charleston, S.C. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pauline Trotter Wooten.

OWENS, McQue
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of October 18, 2002, McQue Owens, husband of Mary Laird Owens. Residence, James Island, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. McQue Owens are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Monday, October 21, 2002, at 1 o'clock in New Beginnings Community Church. Mr. Owens was born August 13, 1926, in Charleston, S.C., the son of the late John Lee Owens and Ruth Singletary Owens. He retired from Westvaco after 41 years as a machine tender. He was a member of the Citadel Square Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #147. He served with the U.S. Navy during W.W.II.
He is survived by his wife of James Island, S.C.; one daughter, Debbie Owens Fennell and her husband William K. Fennell of James Island, S.C.; one son, Robert M. Owens and his wife Alicia H. Owens of James Island, S.C.; four sisters, Jennie Williams of James Island, S.C., Clara Cercopely of James Island, S.C., Betty Dempsey of Beaufort, S.C., and Margaret Logan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, Jasper "Sonny" Owens of James Island, S.C.; five grandchildren, Wendy Gann, Tammy Johnson, Michael Owens, Chris Fennell and Melissa Fennell and nine great-grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by one son, Johnny Chester Owens.

BRAWLEY, Fannie
Fannie Humphreys Iselin Brawley, 92, formerly of Greenville, SC, and for almost 50 years a resident of Berkeley County, died Thursday at Bishop Gadsden Community Center on James Island.
The memorial service will be at 11 AM, Monday, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Pinopolis, SC. A burial service will be held at Christ Church cemetery, Greenville, SC, on Tuesday, October 22, 2002.
For almost 30 years, Mrs. Brawley was owner of Mulberry Plantation, near Moncks Corner, SC. In 1984, she moved briefly to Charleston before re-settling in Pinopolis, SC. During her stewardship of Mulberry Castle on the Cooper River, the 1714 Queen Anne brick house was added to the National Historic Trust.
Mrs. Brawley was born January 10, 1910 in Westchester County, New York, a daughter of R. Duane Humphreys and Fannie H. Ellis Humphreys. Mrs. Brawley attended Shipley School and graduated from Vassar College in 1931. She married
William Jay Iselin in 1932. She and Mr. Iselin, a textile executive, moved to Greenville, SC in 1933. Mr. Iselin was killed in an airplane accident in 1951, leaving her a widow with five young children.
She later married
Marion Brawley, Jr., an attorney, and in 1959 settled in Berkeley County, where she devoted her management and gardening skills to the care and improvement of Mulberry Plantation. For many years, she was an active volunteer worker at Berkeley County Hospital. Mr. Brawley died in 1963. Mrs. Brawley moved to Pinopolis in 1987 and resided at Bishop Gadsden since 1999.
Surviving are her five children and three daughters-in-law, Dana and William Jay Iselin of Charleston; Eleanor Jay Rohrbaugh of New York City; Barbara and R. Duane Iselin of Somesville, Maine; Fannie H. Cromwell of Greenville, SC; Lea and John Jay Iselin of New York City; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

HUGHES, Maybelle
Entered into eternal rest on the morning of October 18, 2002, Maybelle Lewis Hughes, residence, Charleston, SC. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 20, 2002 at 1 o'clock in Johnson Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, NC.
Ms. Hughes was born October 11, 1917 in Rocky Mount, NC, the daughter of Lennie U. Lewis and Maybelle Howard Lewis. She retired after thirty-four years with Sears & Roebuck.
She is survived by two sons: John H. Hughes, III of Charleston, SC and Lennie Lewis Hughes of Elizabeth City, NC; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Ste. # 504, North Charleston, SC 29406.

WILSON, John
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 17, 2002, John Paul Wilson, husband of Ruth Son Wilson. Residence, Charleston Heights, SC. Mr. Wilson was born October 24, 1934 in Port Royal, South Carolina, the son of Julian J. Wilson and Mary Ann Sauls Wilson. He was a former supervisor in the paint department Physical Plant at the Citadel and he retired as a supervisor in the paint department Physical Plant from the College of Charleston after 30 years. After retiring, he operated J.P. Wilson Antique Glass at the Charleston market. Mr. Wilson was an honorary member of the Omar 500 and a member of Ashley River Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth S. Wilson of Charleston Heights, SC, three sons, John Paul Wilson, Jr. of Charleston Heights, SC, James Julian Wilson and his wife Donna of Charleston, SC, Frank J. Wilson and his fiancée Barbara of Coral Springs, Florida, two sisters, Lorine Godfrey of Charleston, SC and Eula Harbison of Charleston Heights, SC, five grandchildren, John P. Wilson, III and his wife Monica, Patrick Wayne Wilson and his wife Carmen, Jamie M. Wilson, Jason M. Wilson, and Kristina A. Wilson, two great-grandchildren, Christian Wilson and Michael Wilson.
Memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407 or to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Bank of America Building, North Charleston, SC 29406.
