SCHWARTZ, Peter
PRINCETON, N.J. - Peter A. Schwartz, 89, died Thursday, at the Medical Center at Princeton. Born in Philadelphia to Georgiana Gormley and David Louis Schwartz, he was a graduate of Princeton University, class of 1936, and became a lifelong teacher. After graduation, he was an assistant dean of men at Princeton. Two years as a teacher at the Chicago Latin School were followed by service as an ensign in the Navy during W.W.II. Following the war he was the assistant headmaster at the Hun School in Princeton. He then served as the headmaster of Allendale School in Rochester, N.Y., Pembroke Country Day School in Kansas City, Mo., and was the founding headmaster of the Fort Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth, Texas. Upon his retirement from Country Day in 1979 he went to the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, where he served as head of the middle school. After two years in Harlingen he searched for a place to retire and settled in John's Island, S.C. He taught Latin at the Island Academy for a year, was deeply involved with the Soup Kitchen Ministry, taught illiterates to read, and was involved in numerous other charitable efforts. He rarely met a stranger and quickly earned the friendship and respect of students, colleagues, neighbors, and friends. Loved and appreciated, he will be missed by many.
He was married
to Alice Crosby Sinclair for 58 years. He is survived by his sister, Madeira S. Meader of Rochester, N.Y., and three children, Carol S. Haag of Princeton, N.J.; Peter A. Schwartz, Jr., of Bulverde, Texas; and Donald S. Schwartz of Nashville, Tenn. His grandchildren include Cindy and Kenneth Haag, Heidi Schwartz Anderson, Heather Schwartz Schultz, Peter A. Schwartz, III, Allison Schwartz Greiner, and Donald Sinclair Schwartz, Jr. Great-grandchildren include Elia Mikaela Aisling Lara, Colton Lucas Anderson, Bryson Reid Anderson, Drake Thomas Greiner, Jr., Donald Elliott Greiner, and Margaret Alice Greiner.
His body has been donated to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Anatomical Association. At his request, a memorial service will be held on John's Island, S.C., at Saint John's Episcopal Church on the Friday following Thanksgiving. FRIERSON, Otis
LYNCHBURG - Funeral service for Mr. Otis Frierson will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, in the Meadow Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by PEOPLES FUNERAL SERVICE OF FLORENCE.
Mr. Frierson died Friday, August 9, 2002, in a Charleston hospital.
He was born in Florence County a son of the late Johnny H. and Ozelia Williams Frierson. He was a lifelong faithful member of the Meadow Prong Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, Chairman of the Trustee and Deacon Boards. He attended the Timmonsville Public Schools and Benedict College where he was a member of the baseball team. He served a tour of duty in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the NAACP and the Meadow Prong Masonic Lodge #346.
Survivors include, a daughter, Frederika F. (Chester) Simmons of Moncks Corner; a son Otis (Betty) Frierson of Norwich, Conn.; six sisters, Ginger Highe, Gwendolyn Burgess, Iris Slade, Elizabeth Valerie, Margie (Ernest) Bradley, and Lee (Eddie) Chambers; a brother, Warren Frierson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family is receiving friends at 263 Frierson St., Lynchburg, S.C.
A wake service with Masonic Rites will be from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel.

FERGUSON, Adrian
ALLENDALE - Mr. Adrian L. Ferguson, husband of the late Mary Ellen Beach Ferguson, died Friday in the V. A. Medical Center of Augusta. He was 78.
Mr. Ferguson was born in Appleton, December 24, 1923, a son of the late William Henry Ferguson, Sr., and Annie Mae Grubbs Ferguson. He was an U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of W.W.II, having served in Italy as a Corporal. He was a former Constable of Allendale, and former Chief of the Allendale Fire Department. Mr. Ferguson was a retired employee of Dick's Motor Service, and was a member of Mt. Arnon Baptist Church, and the American Legion.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Diane Ferguson of Allendale; one son, Richard Ferguson of Hardeeville; two brothers, Wade Ferguson of Hampton, and Ralph Ferguson of St. Helena Island; two sisters, Ogreta Thomas of Allendale, and Lillian Ellison of Burlington, N.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Anna Dolly Schleeter Ackerman, 78, of Summerville, wife of Wallace "Ack" Ackerman, died Monday in a North Charleston hospital.

Mrs. Ackerman was born January 31, 1924 in Charleston, S.C., a daughter of the late Oscar Schleeter and Ferrie Johnson Schleeter. She was a 1945 graduate of the College of Charleston where she received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and was a Delta Zeta Sorority Sister. She worked for Westvaco as a lab chemist until her marriage to "Ack" in 1949. As a devoted wife and mother, she participated in the lives of her children through her community service. She was a Sunday School Teacher at North Charleston Methodist Church from 1956-1971, a Girl Scout Leader from 1959-1965, past President of Park Circle Elementary School PTA, past Treasurer of the Dorchester Republican Women's Club, past President and Treasurer of the King's Grant Garden Club, and a long time member of Stallsville United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to her loving husband of 53 years are 3 daughters: Francine Higgins and her husband Gene of Greenville, S.C., Charleen Hammond and her husband Don of James Island, S.C., and Suzanne Hyde and her husband James of Huger, S.C.; 7 grandchildren: Kathy and Daniel Kelly of Greenville, S.C., Danielle Mooney of Arizona, Chad and Scott Hammond of James Island, S.C., Ray Dunham of San Diego, Calif., and J.T. Hyde, Jr. of Huger, S.C.; 3 great-grandsons: A.J., Alex and Justin of Arizona; and 1 sister: Ewing E. Harris of Durham, N.C.

Surviving are his wife, LaVergne Pope Wiggins; a daughter, Sybil W. Noll of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren, Jennifer Noll and David Noll; a great-grandchild, Daina Marie Noll; and several nieces and nephews.

COOK, J. Lee
VARNVILLE - Mr. J. Lee Cook, 70, of 6792 Yemassee Highway, died early Sunday morning in the Veterans Hospital in Augusta, Ga., after an extended illness. Mr. Cook was born in Hampton County, January 25, 1932, a son of the late Frank Charlie Cook and Tiny S. Wiggins Cook. He was a retired farmer, and had served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a volunteer fireman with the Cummings Fire Department, and the Huggin Oak Church of God in Cummings, where he was a member.
Surviving are, his wife, Betty Ruth Shaffer Cook of Cummings; two sons, Donnie Cook and Floyd A. Cook, both of Cummings; one daughter, Ruth Ann C. Crews of Cummings; two brothers, Jim C. Cook of Beaufort and Roy D. Cook of Hampton; and two sisters, Betty C. Smoak and Edith C. Crapse, both of Cummings. There are seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, in the Huggin Oak Church of god in Cummings, conducted by Rev. Leon Smoak, Rev. Rick Hartsoe, and Rev. David Shaffer, with burial in the Shaffer Family cemetery, directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME IN HAMPTON.
