LEGASPI, Ely

Mrs. Legaspi was born October 24, 1921, in Cavite, the Philippine Islands, a daughter of Meliton and Concepcion Poblete Reyes. Mrs. Legaspi was a member of Charleston Church of Christ (INC) and was a dressmaker.
She is survived by a son, Ruben Legaspi of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Flora Alvarez of the Philippine Islands; Myrna Fabian and Vivian Jimenez both of Goose Creek, S.C.; Ruby Legaspi of Summerville, S.C.; a brother, Onofre Nuestro of the Philippine Islands; 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
ROTH, Ernest
The relatives and friends of Master Sergeant and Mrs. Ernest Jerome Roth, Ret. USAF, are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL, Thursday afternoon, October 17, 2002, at 2 o'clock. Burial will be conducted later in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Roth was born October 12, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Robert and Jennie Cohen Roth. Mr. Roth was a United States Air Force Veteran with 24 years of service during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a Ranger for the Crowfield Golf Course and an avid golfer. He was a member of Solomon's Masonic Lodge No. 1, Scottish Rite, and the Omar Temple. He was also a Stingray Booster Club member and a season ticket holder and missed only two home games in nine years. Mr. Roth was a sports fanatic.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Gipson Roth of Goose Creek, S.C.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Miller (Larry) of Ardmore, Okla.; Judy Roth of Goose Creek, S.C.; Debbie Larkin (George) of Oldsmar, Fla.; Robin (Max) Wensel of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jack E. Roth of McAlester, Okla.; Glen A. (Brenda) Roth of Lafayette, La.; two brothers, Frank Roth and Adolph Roth, both of St. Louis, Missouri; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

COMER, Roy
Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of October 14, 2002, Roy F. Comer, widower of Isabel Graham Comer. Residence, Charleston, SC. Mr. Comer was born, February 8, 1907 in Kelton, SC, the son of Elzie E. Comer and Lucinda Gault Comer. He was retired as a Sanitary Engineer with D.E.H.E.C. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Union, SC and a graduate of Clemson University, where he was a member of the senior platoon class of 1930. He was a member of the Lions Club in Union, SC and the Clemson Block C Club.
He is survived by one son; Robert W. Comer of Augusta, GA; one daughter; Eugenie G. Comer of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren; Mary Keith, Jamieson and Christopher Comer.

Mrs. Kennedy, 82, was born in Waycross, Georgia on January 20, 1920 to the late Walter Louis and Vera Boartfield Poplin. Mrs. Kennedy was a 1937 graduate of North Charleston High School and continued to maintain many close ties with Chicora neighborhood friends throughout her life. She was a charter member of Highland Park Baptist Church and was an active member of the Torch Bearers Sunday School Class. Mrs. Kennedy was a master of traditional southern cuisine and took great pride in the satisfaction of all who sampled. She was a devoted wife and mother, she successfully raised four children, who now say farewell to a life of deserved rest and comfort to the mother they dearly loved.
Mrs. Kennedy was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, William Jennings Kennedy, Jr.. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Poplin Collins of Mount Pleasant, SC; by her three daughters, Jackie Kennedy Buchanan of Hanahan, SC, Patricia Margaret Kennedy of Miami, FL and Cynthia Daun Kennedy Lockerman of Charlotte, NC; and one son, William Jennings Kennedy, III of Goose Creek, SC. She is further survived by her six loving grandchildren, Robin Buchanan Denny and Kelli Buchanan Dumont, both of Charleston, SC, Blayke Prentice Epley, Joshua Kennedy Lockerman, Eric Richard Lockerman, II and Ariel Daun Lockerman, all of Charlotte, NC; and four great-grandchildren, Logan, Hampton, and Grace Denny and Brady Dumont.

CARTER, Barbara
Barbara Shaw Carter, 77, of 1560 Thornblade Blvd., died October 14, 2002.
Born in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of the late Willard B. and Mildred Hood Shaw and the wife of the late Robert S. Carter. She was retired as a secretary from both church and civil work. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in North Charleston and attended Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville. Mrs. Carter was an active and avid member of the church and a member of Daughters of the King. She was also an avid reader.
Two sons, Michael Carter of Simpsonville and David Carter of Hanahan; one daughter, Sherry Glison of El Paso, TX and seven grandchildren survive her.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Christian Fellowship Church, Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with the Pastor Michael Carter officiating. The Family is at 202 Agewood Drive, Simpsonville.

Rosa Mary White, 69, died Friday, October 11, 2002.
The funeral was on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Cottageville. Burial was directed by HAMILTON'S FUNERAL HOME in Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. White, a daughter of the late Hubert Lee and Rosa Evans, was born and educated in Colleton County. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and was very active on several church boards.
Survivors are: a son, Thomas "Gerald" White of Cottageville; a daughter, Redell Brown of Walterboro; two sisters, Lucille Sanders of Estill and Rachel Wilson of Cottageville.
SIMMONS, Evelyn
Evelyn Craven Simmons, 70, of Summerville, SC, wife of Ralph Lee Simmons, died Monday, October 14, 2002 at a Summerville hospital.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of God of Prophecy, Summerville, SC, Thursday afternoon, October 17, 2002 at one o'clock. Burial will be in Summerville cemetery. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home this Wednesday evening from 6 - 9 o'clock and at the church one-half hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.
Mrs. Simmons was born November 3, 1931 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of Beayron G. Craven and Mary Easterlin Craven Jackson. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Lee Simmons of Summerville, SC; four daughters, Tammie L. Weatherford, Teresa K. Wilson, Mary Francis Causey, all of Summerville; Evelyn L. Chubb of St. Stephens; one son, Kenneth O. Sims of TX; one sister, Shirley Driggers and one brother, George R. Craven, both of Summerville; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
