WALTERS, Helen
ESTILL - Mrs. Helen Jones Walters, 77, of 221 Clarke Avenue of Estill, died Tuesday morning in the Hampton Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Mrs. Walters was born in Salley, S.C. on January 8, 1925, a daughter of the late Rev. C. W. Jones, Sr. and Leah Berg Jones. She had worked with the Head Start Program in Beaufort County as a Teacher, and was a member of the Scotia Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Walters are one daughter, Lynda Walters DeLoach of Hampton, and three grandchildren: Trevor, Luke and Callie Barcomb of Albany, New York. She was pre-deceased in death by a brother, C. W. Jones, Jr. and a sister, Anita Jones Thomas.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the Lawtonville cemetery in Estill, conducted by Dr. Jamie Norris, and directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME, HAMPTON CHAPEL. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, and Thursday morning prior to services.

HUGER, S.C. - James McDonald (Jack) Jackson, 64, French Quarter Creek, Huger, SC died Tuesday August 6, 2002 in East Cooper Regional Medical Center, Mt. Pleasant. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday August 8, 2002 in the Cokesbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe N. Long and Rev. Terry Hiers officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at 4 p.m. in the Murray cemetery near Grover. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at BRYANT FUNERAL HOME in St. George. Pallbearers will be Roger Rodgers, Jimmie Bulter, Steve Sponaugle, Charlie Cain, Ralph Runyon, Jim Natividad, and Tim Bass. Honorary pallbearers will be the Army National Guard.
Mr. Jackson was born December 5, 1937 in St. George a son of Lyl Verna Shieder Jackson and the late George Francis Jackson. He was a 1955 graduate of St. George High and was a retired Superintendent of Public Works at Charleston Navel Shipyard. Mr. Jackson retired as Command Sergeant Major of 105 th Signal Battalion, Army National Guard after 30 years of service. He was a former Vice-President of National Association of Superintendents at CNSYD and a member of Old St. George Baptist Church.
Surviving: his wife, Jerelyn (Jeri) Knight Jackson, Summerville, 2 daughters, Donna Jackson Traxler, and Christina (Kristi) Jackson Willis, both of St. George, Step-daughter, Angela C. West, Summerville, mother, Lyl Verna Jackson, St. George, 2 brothers, George William (Billy) Jackson, and David Allen Jackson, both of St. George, a sister, Ethel J. Sweatman, St. George. 4 grandchildren, Joshua Traxler, Jessica Traxler, Kristen Traxler Ryan, Maggie Willis, and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Ryan, all of St. George. A step-grandson, Dylan W. Mr. Harris was born October 12, 1930 in Spartanburg County, S.C., the son of Hobson Harris and Pearl Adair Harris. He retired from Ashley Printing Company as a printer. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by two sisters: Doris H. Franklin of Cross Anchor, S.C. and Florence H. Hyatt of Roebuck, S.C.; one brother: Ernell Harris of Campbellsville, Ky.

BUIST-RODKE, E.
Elizabeth Johnston Buist-Rodke, 66, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., died Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at Roper Hospital. Born November 4, 1935, at Riverside Hospital, Charleston, S.C. Betty attended Ashley Hall School and graduated from Charleston High School in 1953. She received her degree in x-ray technology from Roper Hospital in 1956, and worked there for two years. She was of the Episcopal faith.
Betty was a devoted Air Force wife and a Grey Lady Volunteer in Key West, Fla. She also worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross, and for My Sister's House in North Charleston, S.C. She was an accomplished artist, painting watercolor landscapes and nature scenes. She donated her eight year collection of Indian and dinosaur artifacts from Edingsville beach to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. She loved cats.
She was the daughter of the late Dr. Archibald Johnston Buist, Jr., M.D., Chairman of Roper Hospital 1944-1960 and Carolyn Murray Buist, granddaughter of Dr. A.J. Buist, Sr., M.D., 1839-1910, Chief physician, Roper Hospital, Professor Emeritus MUSC, and 33rd degree Mason.
Betty was preceded in death by her son, Phillip M. Rodke, Jr. "Skip" in May 1999, her husband of 41 years, Lt. Col. Ret. USAF Pilot Phillip M. Rodke, Sr., Oct. 2000, and sister, Anne Buist Waggoner in March 2001.
She is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Raul Morales of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Robertha Warth and three grandchildren of Chatham, Va.
Graveside service will be in Magnolia cemetery, Friday morning, August 9, 2002, at 11 o'clock. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, Thursday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock.
