MOORE, Lawrence
Lawrence Anthony Moore, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, husband of Gertrude Murphy Moore, died Monday, August 5, 2002, at a local hospital. He was born in Charleston to the late Charles Joseph and Margaret Loretta McGrane Moore and attended Bishop England High School. Lawrence retired from Southern Bell after 36 years as a central office technician. He was a W.W. II and Korean Conflict Navy Veteran and was in six First Wave invasions including Tarawa, Tinian, and Peliliu. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a life member of the Charleston Lodge #242, B.P.O.E. Elks, and a life member of both the Knights of Columbus, Rev. P.N. Lynch Council #704 and the Knights of Columbus, Rev. P.N. Lynch Assembly, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3137, and a past member of the Charleston Artist Guild and the Charleston Running Club. Lawrence was an outstanding boxer, weightlifter and runner. He was the 1947 Charleston Golden Glove Champion and the Carolinas' Boxing Champion, a 1948 All South Weightlifting Champion and, in 1951, he was recognized as one of the best 10 Welter Weightlifting Champion and, in 1951, he was recognized as one of the best 10 Welter Weightlifters in his age group. He was the 1952 Tri-State Weightlifting Champion and Baltimore, Md. Weightlifting Champion. In 1952 he placed Third in the tryouts for the Olympics in New York City and, in 1981, at the age of 51, he ran the Boston Marathon. Lawrence ran in numerous other marathons, 18 Cooper River Bridge Runs and many Knights of Columbus Turkey Day Races. In 1986 he set the Carolinas' marathon record in the 60 to 64 age group, and later started bicycling 60 to 62 miles weekly. He will be sadly missed by his family including his wife of 48 years, Trudy; two sisters, Margaret M. Sibbald and Mary M. McKay, both of Charleston; and 30 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles J. Moore, Jr., Thomas A. Moore and Martin Moore. Family and friends are invited to a Liturgy of Christian Burial which will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 89 Hasell St., with interment in St. Lawrence cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

LINDSLEY, Michael
Michael Anthony Lindsley, 36, of Levee Drive, Moncks Corner, S.C., a carpenter for C & T Construction Company, died Tuesday in Moncks Corner.
The funeral will be at 1:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2002, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will be in Plantation Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the hour of service on FRIDAY.
Mr. Lindsley was born June 6, 1966, in Tampa, Fla., a son of Phillip George Lindsley and Linda Allen Lindsley.
Surviving are his wife, Rose A. Puglisi Lindsley; his mother of Summerville; his father and step-mother, Linda Wright Lindsley of Bonneau; a daughter, Jenna Marie Fennell of Moncks Corner; three sons: Michael Anthony Lindsley, II, Alec Jordan Lindsley, and Phillip Jacob Lindsley, all of Moncks Corner; two sisters: Teresa Sweatman of Summerville and Mellissa Morris of Goose Creek; four brothers: Phillip Lindsley of Mt. Pleasant, Geoffrey Lindsley of Moncks Corner, Jamie Lindsley of New Orleans, and Roger Lindsley of Florida; his grandmother, Florence Ellis of Clearwater, Fla.; step-sister, Susan A. Cox of Ladson; and step-brother, Wesley A. Cox of Charleston.

Clarence Huff, Sr., 84, widower of Mae Blanton Huff, of Summerville, died Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at a Summerville hospital.

Mr. Huff was born December 30, 1917 in Berkeley County, S.C., a son of Frank Huff and Eunice Burbage Huff. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Salisbury Brick Corporation.
Survivors include two sons: Clarence Huff., Jr. and Edmond William Huff; two daughters-in-law: Elsie Huff and Audrey Huff; one brother, Frank Huff; one sister, Leila Cury; six grandchildren: Greg Huff, Tammy Huff, April Driggers, Suzie Yandell, Donna Clodsetter and Elaine Sherrill; four great-grandchildren: Taylor Huff, Billy Wall, Angela Wall and Brittney Huff, all of Summerville, S.C.

Born September 24, 1940 in Florence, S.C., Mr. Smith was the son of the late Chesley Smith and Mary Wise Smith. He was a retired truck driver for Banks Construction Co. and served in the National Guard. Mr. Smith was Baptist.
Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Mary W. Smith of N. Charleston; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph E. "Joey" and Donna Smith, and two grandchildren, Tommy Smith and Caitlyn Smith, all of Knightsville, S.C.; three brothers, Wylie Smith, Larry Smith and John Wayne Williams, all of N. Charleston; his mother-in-law, Sadie Dukes Jackson of N. Charleston; and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Harry Smith, preceded Mr. Smith in death.

JASKUNAS, Thomas
Capt. Thomas "Tom" Michael Jaskunas, USN (Ret), 52, of James Island, S.C., husband of Carol Popa Jaskunas died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at his residence. Capt. Jaskunas was born Wednesday, August 24, 1949, in Chicago, IL the son of Alphones Stanley and Eleanor Masilonis Jaskunas. He received his Bachelors of Electrical Engineering and Masters Degree in Nuclear Engineering from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Upon graduation he enlisted into the US Navy and rose to the rank of Captain. His last command was of the nuclear submarine, USS Lewis & Clark, SSBN 644. After Capt. Jaskunas retired from the US Navy he was employed with the Medical University of South Carolina as the Director of Quality Programs at the MUSC Engineering Facility. Capt. Jaskunas was a member of the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, Association of S.C. Energy Managers, the U.S. Naval Institute, Retired Officers Association, Naval Submarine League, Navy League, the American Legion Post No. 179, the Alpha Delta Phi, Social Fraternity, Tau Beta Pi, Engineering Honors Fraternity. He was an Executive Board Member of the Cold War Submarine Memorial Foundation, a member of and the Faithful Navigator for the Knights of Columbus, Rev. P.N. Lynch Assembly 704 and a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Rev. John J. Egan Council No. 10334. He was predeceased by a brother, Alan S. Jaskunas. Surviving are his wife of James Island, his mother of James Island, two daughters, Elena J. McBride and her husband Henry of Auburn, AL and Taryn M. Jaskunas of James Island, a sister-in-law, Linda Jaskunas of Kansas City, KS. Mrs. Patterson, a native of Edgefield County, died Wednesday, August 7, 2002, in Jackson, Ga. She was a daughter of the late Edward and Rilla Claxton Scott, was a homemaker and member of Philippi Baptist Church.

WEISS, Gladys
Mrs. Gladys Brabham Weiss, of Bamberg and formerly of Olar, wife of the late Eric Weiss, died August 3, 2002, in a Bamberg hospital.
Born in Ulmer, S.C., February 3, 1905, Mrs. Weiss was the daughter of the late Joseph Gordon Brabham and late Eva Kearse Brabham. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Olar, S.C. She was a retired nursing assistant in pediatrics.
Graveside funeral services will be Friday, August 9, 2002, 2:30 p.m., at Mizpah Church, Beaufort's Bridge Area.
Survivors include, one niece, Peggy Nicholson and her husband, Ed of Kennesaw, Ga.; one grand-daughter, Keppie Ledford of Florence, S.C., and a number of cousins in Bamberg County.
MARTIN, Dorothy
Dorothy Sandifer Martin, of Bamberg, S.C., wife of the late Clarence Martin, died a Columbia hospital Wednesday, August 7, 2002.
Born in Bamberg County, October 7, 1934, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Lula Bunch Sandifer and the late Heyward Sandifer, Sr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bamberg. She retired from Manufactoring Company and was a housewife.
Funeral services will be August 9, 2002, Friday, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Bamberg, S.C., Rev. David Pohto and Rev. Odell Breland officiating. Burial will be in the South End cemetery. The nephews will be pallbearers.
Survivors include, three sisters, Louise Price of Bamberg, Shirley Cook of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Hayes of Bamberg, three brothers, Buddy Sandifer of Bamberg, Johnny Sandifer of Darlington, and Paul Sandifer of Bamberg, two step-sons, Will Martin of Bamberg, and Wayne Martin of Orangeburg, 16 nieces and nephews.

KLUDT, William
GEORGETOWN - William David Kludt, 73, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital after an illness.
Mr. Kludt was born in Michigan on January 7, 1929. He lived in Michigan for many years where he was involved in business and civic organizations concerning the fine arts. Mr. Kludt retired to Hilton Head, moved to Charleston a few years later, and then to Georgetown.
Surviving is his wife, Diane Seale Kludt of Georgetown.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
