deRUYTER, Jacobus
Jacobus "Jack" A.M. deRuyter, M.D., of Mount Pleasant, S.C., husband of Antje C. Feikema deRuyter died Thursday, August 1, 2002, in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The funeral service will be Monday, August 5, 2002, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, at 11 o'clock.
Dr. deRuyter was born in Noordwyk, Netherlands, the son of Willem and Gertrudes deRuyter. He attended Leiden University in Holland and was a OB-GYN Physician prior to becoming Medical Director for Exxon Refinery in Aruba. He volunteered at Meals on Wheels in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and while in Aruba, he volunteered in the administration at the Military Home of the Dutch Marines. Dr. deRuyter held a position with the Medical Board of the government hospital in Aruba. He was also a member of the Medical Malpractice Board in Aruba.
Surviving are his wife of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., three daughters, Margaret Connell of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Corinne Khouri of Bahrain and Inga deRuyter of Palo Alto, Calif., and six grandchildren.

FUNKE, Frederick
Frederick Walter Funke, DDS MS, 62, of Summerville, husband of Phyllis Clair Funke, died Tuesday morning, July 30, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2002, at 11 o'clock in Bethany United Methodist Church, Spell Chapel, Summerville. Entombment will be held in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, Charleston.
Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 p.m. this evening.

Dr. Funke was born on December 13, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisc., a son of the late Dr. Walter Herman Funke and Elva Delia Brekke Funke. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1962 where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. He went on to graduate from the Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1966. He finished his residency in Oral Surgery at the University of Iowa in 1970. From there he accepted a faculty position at the MUSC School of Dental Medicine. In 1975 he became Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofaxial Surgery at the University of Florida. He returned to Charleston in 1977 where he established Trident Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pa., and practiced oral surgery for the past 25 years.
Dr. Funke was a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He served on the board of Trident Health Systems from 1980-1982 and was Chairman of the Board in 1982. He was also a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, S.C. Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, S.C. Dental Association. He was past president of the Dorchester County Medical Socity. He was a past member of the Summerville-Oakbrook Rotary where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He attended Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville. He enjoyed sailing, skiing, racing, hunting, reading and history.
Surviving are, his wife of Summerville; two daughters, Dr. Heather Funke McCown and her husband Dr. John Samuel McCown of Florence, Lauren Elizabeth Funke of Summerville; one son, Frederick Walter Funke, Jr., of Summerville; two grandchildren, John Samuel McCown, Jr., and Sarah Catherine McCown both of Florence; one brother, Dr. James Funke and his wife Mary of Oconomowoc, Wisc.; two sisters, Karen Heyward and her husband Ron of Milwaukee, Wisc., Sandra Westphal and her husband Bill of Janesville, Wisc.

WITT, Heyward
Heyward Doyle Witt, 49, of Moncks Corner, S.C., an ironworker for Jacobs Engineering, died Wednesday in Moncks Corner.

Mr. Witt was born December 19, 1952, in Columbia, S.C., a son of James Witt and Coleen DuBois Maner.

BERRIGAN, William
William Robert Jr., 48, of North Charleston died unexpectedly on July 30, 2002 at a local hospital. Mr. Berringer was born on Feb. 6, 1954 in Miami, Fla. He was a former employee of Cummins Engine Co. when it was headquartered in Charleston and he was also the former owner of All-American in North Charleston. He was a member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church in Hanahan, S.C.
Mr. Berrigan was the son of the late William R. Berrigan Sr. and is survived by his mother, Irene Ann Berrigan; three children, Mery Berrigan Mitchell of Goose Creek, S.C., Jesse Berrigan and Jo Berrigan of North Charleston, S.C.; a sister Susan Moseley of Richmond Hills, Ga; a brother, John Berrigan and his wife, Tammy of North Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren, Dustin Mitchell, Ana Leigh and Joshua Berrigan Seldon; and 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

Doris (Dottie) Price Hartzog, 42, of 262 School House Road died July 31, 2002 at the scene from injuries sustained in auto accident on US 78 near St. George. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Randall J. Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in the Dorchester cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George. Mrs. Hartzog was born December 17, 1959 in Summerville a daughter of Laverne Hughes Price and the late John Henry Price. She was bookkeeper at Dorchester Academy, pianist and member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was a1978 Honor graduate of Harleyville-Ridgeville High School and graduated with Honors with an accounting degree from Baptist College in Charleston. She was a member of the Ivy Garden Club.
Surviving: Husband, Douglas Hartzog, a daughter, Holly Marie Hartzog, both of Dorchester, Mother, Laverne Hughes Campbell, Givhans, and 2 sisters, Suzanne P. Hilton, Ridgeville and Pamela Price, Columbia.
