Barbara Bass Luther-Campbell, 55, died July 30, 2002, in Charleston, S.C. Barbara was born in Lumberton, N.C., on August 12, 1946, a daughter of Bobby P. Bass and Marjorie Rhodes Bass.
She was a graduate of Conway High School. She retired from Charleston County Government where she worked with Charleston County Police Department and Charleston County Summary Courts.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Campbell of James Island, S.C.; her mother, Marjorie R. Bass of Lumberton, N.C.; one daughter, Karen L. Wilson and her husband Robert of State College, Pa.; one son, Kenneth Wayne Luther, Jr., and his wife Alicia of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; two grandchildren, Tyler and Allison Wilson of State College, Pa.; one sister, Paula Bass Massey and her husband, Bernsey of Conway, S.C.; one brother, John Larry Bass of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; former sister-in-law, Sid Bass of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; nieces and nephews, Christian Massey, Rachel Massey, Johnathan Bass, Gretchen B. Blackwell, Michael Bass, Rebecca Luther, Charlotte Luther Neuroth and her husband, John, step-daughter, Sherree Letcho and her husband Stephen and their children, Jackson, Stevie, and Savannah of Summerville, S.C., a special aunt Inez Rhodes of Cary, N.C., and mother and father-in-law, Col. and Mrs. Robert Campbell of Lacey, Washington.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 2, 2002, at 11 o'clock, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Entombment will be in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel, Thursday evening, between 6 and 8 o'clock.

GADDY, Larry
WALTERBORO - Mr. Larry Eugene Gaddy, 48, died Tuesday, at his residence. Visitation will be held at the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday. A memorial service will be held at his residence at 1676 Barracada Road, Walterboro, at 5 p.m., Friday, with Rev. Roger Quesenberry officiating.
Mr. Gaddy was born in Dillon, S.C., a son of Bill Gaddy and Betty Hiott Gaddy Watts. He was an Army veteran and was the owner of Street Rods Unlimited.
Surviving in addition to his father of North Carolina, and his mother of Dillon are his wife, Patricia "Patsy" Youngblood Gaddy of Hampton, a son, Benjamin Boyd Gaddy and Cheyenne Leigh Gaddy, both of Hampton, and two sisters, Barbara Godbolt and Lois Phillips, both of Dillon.

VOYLES, Alice
Mrs. Alice Litherine Beasley Voyles, 86, resident of Live Oak, Fla., died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at her daughters home in Greensboro, N.C., following a long illness. Mrs. Voyles was a native of Stilson County, Ga., daughter of the late Joe Cleveland and Pearl Alice Harvey Beasley, and had lived in Charleston, S.C., and in Melrose, Fla., before moving back to Live Oak in the mid 1970's. Mrs. Voyles was an active member of her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Live Oak, having served in many capacities throughout her life. She was also a past President of the Womens Club of Starke. Mrs. Voyles was the widow of the late Earl M. Voyles. Survivors include, two daughters, Ann Voyles Kirkman, of Greensboro, N.C., and Peggy Voyles James, of Orlando; one step-son, Robert E. Voyles, of Charleston, S.C. Eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at 2 p.m., in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Bishop Larry Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill cemetery, McAlpin. HOFFORD, Grace
Grace George Hofford, 79, of Charleston, died Sunday, July 28, 2002. She was born in New York City, July 4, 1923, a daughter of the late Earl Henry George and Anna Marie Walsh George. She graduated from the Barnard School for Girls in New York City, attended Hood College in Frederick, Md., and the New School in New York City. She had a ten year career in the fashion industry in New York City and was elected to the Fashion Industry Council Institute in New York in 1947. While in New York, she was a member of the English Speaking Union, and a volunteer for the Air Defense Command during World War II. While she was married
to her husband, Captain John L. Hofford, USN, she held various offices in the Submarine Officers Wives Clubs, including President of the Charleston Submarine Officers Wives Clubs, including President of the Charleston Submarine Officers Wives Group. In recent years she served as a Guardian ad Litem in Family Court and was a member of Women's Council of the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Alliance Franchise. She is survived by a son, Hank Hofford and his wife, Susan Ford, of Mt. Pleasant, three daughters, Andi Awkerman and her husband Gary of Isle of Palms, Merry Hofford of Reno Nevada, Suzanne Hofford and her husband Jack McCall of Greenville, S.C., sister, Alys S. Dauchess of Reston, Va., cousin, Gloria McInerney of Pittsfield, Mass., and five grandchildren, Anna Leigh Hofford, Jessica Hofford, John Hofford, Nora Grace Awkerman, and Georgeanna Awkerman. Mrs. Wessel died July 30, 2002. Born in Charleston, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Alvin St. Julian Humbert and Ruth Weeks Humbert. She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church Choir, former Luther League Advisor and Former Church Secretary.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Franz Dewey Wessel, Jr., of Gilbert; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen F. and Kathy Wessel of Lexington; daughters, Sharon W. Glass of Kingsport, Tenn., and Lynne W. Orr of Pelion; sister, Winona Doar of Charleston; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Commander Albert Talmadge Taylor, Jr., US Navy, Ret., of Moncks Corner, S.C., died Monday at his residence.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, in the Trinity Episcopal Church, Pinopolis, S.C. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Stephen Lutheran Church cemetery, Lexington, S.C. Commander Taylor was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Lexington, S.C., a son of Albert Talmadge Taylor, Sr., and Barbara Gertrude Sharpe Taylor. He is the widower of Edna Denaro Taylor. Commander Taylor served in W.W. II, Vietnam, and the Korean Conflict. During his career, he was the recipient of the American Campaign Medal, the W.W. II Victory Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal (One Star).
Commander Taylor was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church where he served as the church treasurer for 17 years and served on the Vestry for many years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. He was a graduate of Lexington High School; he received a BS Degree from the University of South Carolina; and he received his Masters Degree from Georgia Tech.
Surviving are, a daughter, Mary Alice Taylor of Moncks Corner; a sister, Julia Taylor Wiley of Marietta, GA; and three granddaughters, Jennifer M. Clowney of Atlantic Beach, FL, and Meredith A. Morris and Sarah E. Morris both of Moncks Corner; three nieces and six nephews.

SIMMONS, Ella
Ella T. Simmons, 85, co-founder of Simmons Seafood died Sunday July 28, 2002 at an assisted living facility in Mt. Pleasant. Born December 4, 1916 in McClellanville, S.C. she was the daughter of William McClellan and Louise H. Taylor (nee Freeman). She was a graduate of Memminger High School and a longtime member of The Church of the Holy Cross. She and her husband, The late L. Hugh Simmons, Sr., founded Simmons Market on Sullivan's Island in 1937. They operated the grocery until 1954 and opened Moultrie Fisheries in Mt. Pleasant in the early 1950s. They operated Simmons Seafood in Mt. Pleasant from 1955-1970. Survivors include four children and their spouses: L. Hugh (Red) Simmons, Jr. (Cindy), William R. (Billy) Simmons (Deedie), Carolyn S. Webb (Billy) all of Mt. Pleasant, and Francis Y. Simmons (Mary Lou) of Sumter, S.C.; brother George T. Taylor and his wife Mary of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law Mrs. John F. Taylor of Mt. Pleasant; ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in The Church of the Holy Cross, 2520 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island. RICHMOND, VA.-Josephine Pullen Daniel of Richmond, Va., died on July 30, 2002. She was the widow of Rawley Fleet Daniel and daughter of the late A.M. Pullen and Jane Simmons Pullen.
She is survived by a daughter, Martha Jane Hudnall of Charleston, S.C. and three sons, John Warren Daniel and Marvin Pullen Daniel of Richmond, Va and Christopher Fleet Daniel of San Ramon, Ca and by six grandchildren. She was born on March 13, 1920 and lived her entire life in Richmond where she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and of several civic organizations. Burial will be attended by family members on Thursday, August 1, 2002, followed by a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church in Richmond.
