HARPER, Ruthanne
Ruthanne Cannon Harper, 55, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at her residence. Mrs. Harper was born in Saluda on March 24, 1947, a daughter of the late Rev. George Russell Cannon and Marion Bishop Cannon. She graduated from North Charleston High School and attended Columbia College. Mrs. Harper was employed by International Paper Company for thirty-five years. She was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir for many years.
Surviving are: her husband, Michael Lamberth Harper of Pawley's Island; three sons, Adrian Russell Moore, Aaron Randolph Moore, and Ashton Richard Moore, all of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Allyson Moore Carter and her husband, Dennis Carter of Goose Creek; and two grandchildren, Bishop Altman and Madison Altman.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2002, at four o'clock in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Phillip C. Thrailkill and the Rev. Timothy F. Moore. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens under the direction of the GEORGETOWN CHAPEL OF MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening, July 30, 2002, from six until eight o'clock.

HERRING, John
Mr. John L. "Jack" Herring died Monday, July 29, 2002 at his residence after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, at Marion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery, directed by SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME.
Born December 28, 1924, Mr. Herring retired from Carolina Power & Light after 40 years of service. He served his country with the US Navy during World War II in the Philippines. He was past Master of Clinton Lodge #60, A.F.M., a member of the Omar Shrine Temple, a member of the American Legion Post #5 and a member of the Davis Landing River Club.
Mr. Herring served on the City of Marion Park and Tree Committee and the Planning and Zoning Board. Mr. Herring was a member and former deacon of the Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ellen James Herring; 3 sons: John Herring of Marion, Joel (Pam) Herring of Florence and Mark (Joanie) Herring of Mullins; 2 grandsons: Wade Herring and Wyatt Herring.

MATTHEWS, Charles
Charles Wesley Matthews of North Charleston, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2002, 7 p.m. at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL. Born July 29, 1932, in Cowards, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Jewel Sauls and Nettie Matthew Evans. He was an Army Veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Simonin of Charleston, three sons, Tim Baker, of Atlanta, Georgia, Mike Baker, of Oklahoma City and Todd Matthews of San Diego, California. Three sisters, Rosie Thomas, of Florence, Alma Rainwater, of Florence and Diane Weatherford, of Florence two brothers, George Evans, of Florence and Gilbert Matthews, of Orlando, Florida five grandchildren, Anthony, Ashley, Timmy, Christopher and Aubrey.

Jennifer Gayle Mayer Doyle, 46, of Summerville, died Sunday evening in a Charleston hospital.
Memorial services will be held, Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at 11:30 o'clock in St. Luke's Lutheran Church Chapel. Burial will be private.

Mrs. Doyle was born on September 6, 1955, in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of Helen Thompson Mayer of Summerville, and the late Wayne George Mayer. She was a graduate of Fostoria High School in Fostoria, Ohio. She received her Business Associates Degree from Trident Technical College. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are, her mother of Summerville; three sons, Ronald Mayer Doyle and his fiancée Heather, Wayne Robert Doyle, and Shawn Christopher Doyle all of Summerville; one grandson, Allen Mayer Doyle of Summerville.

Mrs. Lampinen was born September 15, 1907, in Lanes, S.C., the daughter of the late Joseph Knowlton and Irene Mitchum Knowlton. Mrs. Lampinen was the founding member of We Care Ministries, a ministry dedicated to the honor of Aunt Honey of the We Care Club that was established in 1957. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club. She was a former employee of Charleston Manufacturing Dress Factory and a former nursing assistant.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Smith of North Charleston, S.C.; sister, Mozell Pierce of North Charleston, S.C.; brother, David Poland of Eutawville, S.C.; four nieces, two nephews, eight grand-nieces, nine grand-nephews; eight great-grandnieces and 14 great-grandnephews.

MCCANN, William
William Thomas McCann, Sr., 82, husband of Patricia Fetner McCann, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Roper Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Beaufort, followed by burial in Beaufort National cemetery.
Mr. McCann was born September 23, 1919, in Richmond, Va. He was a graduate of the University of Virginia. He was a college basketball coach at Hampton Sydney College, Washington and Lee College, and the University of Virginia. He was a Veteran of the Marine Corps, having served in WWII. He received numerous medals, including two Purple Hearts. He retired from the Fripp Island Real Estate Company in 2001.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Mount Pleasant, is a son, William T. McCann, Jr., of Richmond, Va.; a step-son, William E. Ingram of Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Betty M. Thompson of Richmond, Va.; a step-daughter, Patricia Grambling of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his Shih Tzu, Suzi.

WALTERBORO - Mr. William Robert Ginn, Jr., 70, of 344 Lakeshore Drive, died Sunday at Colleton Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, at the Chapel of the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Welch Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Ginn was born in Jasper County, a son of the late William Robert Ginn and Gertrude Sanders Ginn. He was a retired manager with Buckfield Plantation and was a Baptist. He was a former member of the Walterboro Moose Lodge and a former member of the Elks Lodge. He loved to play and sing country music, and organized the group Country Rangers.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Betty Carson Ginn, a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wendy Benton of Ruffin, a brother, Frank Ginn of Shelton, three sisters, Irene Reynolds, Linda Bowers, and Maude Nettles, all of Walterboro, two grandchildren, Robert Trenton Jones and his wife, Monica and Alexis Kristen Jones, and three great-grandchildren, Caleb, Breanna "Breezie", and Jadah. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Hill and Louise Wright and two brothers, Doug Ginn and William Frederick Ginn.

HOFFORD, Grace
Grace George Hofford, 79, of Charleston, died Sunday, July 28, 2002. She was born in New York City, July 4, 1923, a daughter of the late Earl Henry George and Anna Marie Walsh George. She graduated from the Barnard School for Girls in New York City, attended Hood College in Frederick, Md., and the New School in New York City. She had a ten year career in the fashion industry in New York City and was elected to the Fashion Industry Council Institute in New York in 1947. While in New York, she was a member of the English Speaking Union, and a volunteer for the Air Defense Command during World War II. While she was married
to her husband, Captain John L. Hofford, USN, she held various offices in the Submarine Officers Wives Clubs, including President of the Charleston Submarine Officers Wives Clubs, including President of the Charleston Submarine Officers Wives Group. In recent years she served as a Guardian ad Litem in Family Court and was a member of Women's Council of the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Alliance Franchise. She is survived by a son, Hank Hofford and his wife, Susan Ford, of Mt. Pleasant, three daughters, Andi Awkerman and her husband Gary of Isle of Palms, Merry Hofford of Reno Nevada, Suzanne Hofford and her husband Jack McCall of Greenville, S.C., sister, Alys S. Dauchess of Reston, Va., cousin, Gloria McInerney of Pittsfield, Mass., and five grandchildren, Anna Leigh Hofford, Jessica Hofford, John Hofford, Nora Grace Awkerman, and Georgeanna Awkerman.
