DOWNEY, Jacquelyn
WALTERBORO - Jacquelyn Hiott Downey, 71 year old retired librarian with Colleton County School District and wife of Michael E. Downey, died Sunday at Colleton Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the Chapel of the Fred Parker Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Posey Belcher and Rev. Steve Brown. Interment will be in Live Oak cemetery.
Mrs. Downey was born July 10, 1931, in Walterboro, a daughter of the late Henry Plant Hiott and Mary Caroline Beach Hiott. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a former member of the choir and church librarian. She was a member of Senior Friends, and a volunteer at Colleton Medical Center. She was twice married
, first to the late D.C. "Frosty" Hayden.
Surviving besides her husband are, two sons and daughter-in-laws, David C. Hayden, Jr., and Rebecca, and Tommy S. Hayden and Patti, both of Walterboro, a step-son and daughter-in-law, J.P. Downey and Harper of Round O, a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon H. and David Turner of Walterboro, three brothers, Eddie Hiott, Johnny Hiott and Dr. David Hiott all of Walterboro, a sister, Rosemary H. Hadwin of Walterboro, 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

HOLMES, Jimmy W.

Mr. Holmes was born November 27, 1929 in Piedmont, Alabama, the son of John C. Holmes and Ethel Moss Holmes. He retired as a purchaser for the State Ports Authority.
Surviving are his wife of Goose Creek, S.C.; three sons: Richard Wilaby of Charleston, S.C., Larry Wilkes of St. Amant, La., and Jimmy Wilkes of Parish, N.Y.; two daughters: Charlene Frazier of Cross, S.C., and Drusilla Holmes of Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Holmes was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Holmes.
QUINN, Jessie
Jessie "Ben" Stuckey Quinn, wife of Frederick Elliotte Quinn, died Monday, July 29, 2002, at the Franke Home in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. She was born in Bishopville, S.C., and was the daughter of Joseph Freeman Stuckey and Ruth Martin Stuckey. She attended Flora McDonald College (now St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.) She was a homemaker and active in the Women of the Church at Centennial ARP Church in Columbia and the First Presbyterian Church in Durham, N.C., while living in Durham she was a volunteer for the Red Cross in that city. She founded the "ARP Bridge Club" in Columbia. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frederick Elliotte Quinn, two sons, James A. Quinn of Charleston and F. Elliotte Quinn III and his wife, Annette B. Quinn; two grandsons, F. Elliotte Quinn IV, and Albert Benjamin Quinn of Mt. Pleasant, a sister, Cile Stuckey, Columbia, and a brother, Joseph F. Stuckey, Fresno, Calif.
The relatives and friends of Jessie "Ben" Stuckey Quinn are invited to attend her funeral service, Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church at 2 o'clock. JOHNSON, Lamar
KINGSTREE- Lamar Nathaniel Johnson, 78, died Sunday at his residence after an illness. Mr. Johnson was born in Kingstree, a son of Shelly Thelma McClary Johnson and John McKuren Johnson. He attended Williamsburg County Schools and was retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Mr. Johnson was a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge #46, a Shriner with Omar Temple, a member of the American Legion Post #8, and was a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where he held several offices over the years. He was currently serving as chairman of the Williamsburg County Transportation Committee. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Jack Douglas Johnson.
Survivors: wife, Elizabeth Duke Johnson, of Kingstree; 2 daughters, Mrs. Chris (Debbie) Hannaford of Florence, and Mrs. Chris (Tresa) Dubuisson of Seattle, WA; 3 grandchildren, Kyleigh Chandler of Columbia, Alicia and Doug Dubuisson of Seattle, WA; 2 brothers, Allen Johnson of Kingstree and Randy Johnson of Myrtle Beach; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Buddin of Cades, Sue Nell Hodges of Macon, GA and Betty Lou Bolander of Auburndale, FL.

WALTERBORO: Margaret M. Bostic, 62, died Friday, July 26, 2002.

Ms. Bostic was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late George Brunson, Sr. and Sula Mays Brunson. She was a 1955 graduate of Ruffin High School.

GOSS, James
Chief James Goss, entered eternal rest on July 28, 2002, at his home in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The relatives and friends of Chief and Mrs. James H. Goss are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Christ Episcopal Church. The family will be receiving friends at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, East Cooper Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, 884-3833, on July 30, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Chief Goss was born February 13, 1930, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Klement and Ruth Kreitler Goss. Chief Goss retired as Chief of Public Safety for the Medical University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston in 1997 and as Lieutenant from the Buffalo New York Police Department in 1976. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps 1947-1950 and the U.S. Marine Corps 1951-1959.
Chief Goss graduated from Buffalo State College in 1976. He accomplished 41 years in law enforcement starting as a patrolman in 1956. While with the Buffalo PD he was instrumental in the creation of one of the first Special Weapons and Tactics Teams (SWAT) in the country and was also the commander of the Underwater Recovery Team and the Police Academy. He was also in charge of the Buffalo Police Honor Guard and Drill Team. Following retirement from Buffalo he worked for several years with the Charleston County Police Department, as Assistant Chief and as the Commander of the Metro Narcotics Unit before becoming Chief of the Hanahan, S.C. Police Department. He was employed by MUSC and the College of Charleston until his retirement.
Chief Goss received numerous awards and citations during his career. The Sons of the American Revolution honored him as Buffalo New York Police Officer of the Year in 1976. He was also cited for heroism in 1969 for pulling a man from a submerged automobile.
Chief Goss, a well-known local woodcarver, was a member of the National Woodcarvers Association. Many of his carvings are on display at the Medical University Children's Hospital Atrium roller-coaster, Heart Center and St. Luke's Chapel.
He was a member of the Etiwan Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Omar Shrine. He was currently the Assistant Rabban, 2nd Vice President, of Omar Shrine and was a past director of the Keystone Kops Shrine Unit. He was most honored to be invited to become a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 113, of which he was a Past Director and a member of the Lowcountry Billiken Club. Chief Goss was also a member of Washington Light Infantry, a member of the Board of Directors International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the S.C. Police Chiefs Association.
Chief Goss is survived by his wife, Margaret McNaughton Goss, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., three sons, James H. Goss, Jr., and his wife, Gina, of Hamburg, New York, Francis P. Goss of Bremen, Germany, William B. Goss and his wife, Sandra, of Lewisville, N.C., and five daughters, Deborah Barnes and her husband, Larry of Summerville, S.C., Linda Lindsley and her husband, Joseph of Lewisville, N.C., Mary Maciejewski and her husband, Mark of Goose Creek, S.C., Susan Spencer and her husband, James of Colden, N.Y., and Kathleen Hilliard and her husband, Wesley of Charlotte, N.C. Twenty-five grandchildren also survive him Lynn Marie, Sara Ann, Angela, Colleen, Patrick, Joseph, James and Savannah Goss, Brian, Laura, Alissa and Christina Barnes, Amber, Clifford, Chad and Clint Lindsley, Bill and Tim Maciejeski, Alison, Megan and Jamison Spencer and Samuel, Matthew, Daniel, and Grace Hilliard. A sister, Jane Goss Pitello of Centerreach, Long Island, N.Y., two brothers-in-law, W. Dan McNaughton of Royal Oak, Mich., Thomas P. McNaughton and his wife, Lissa of Albany, N.Y., two sisters-in-law, Catherine D. Talty of Buffalo, N.Y., and Maureen Munzert and her husband, Paul of Buffalo New York and a host of other relatives and friends.

CULLUM, Louise
GREENWOOD - Louise Wells Cullum, 87, former resident of 209 Autumn Trace, widow of F. Rudolph "Rudy" Cullum, died July 24, 2002, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Born in Greenwood County, August 13, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Clara Pinson Wells. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and retired as a teacher from Northside Junior High School after 40 years teaching in Greenwood School District #50.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Benson Sunday School after 40 years teaching in Greenwood School District #50.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Benson Sunday School Class of the church and the Cowan Circle. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving are a son, Furman R. Cullum of Charleston; two sisters, Mrs. L. Giles (Annie) Daniel of Greenwood and Roberta W. Timmerman of Estero, Fla.; a brother, Fred E. Wells of Sumter; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted, 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Standley officiating.
Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Corley, Chad Corley, David Henderson, Jeff Constant, Bill Daniel, David Stuart and Jim D. Rabon.
The body is at Blythe Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m., Tuesday afternoon.
