Anneliese R. Keith
Retired co-owner of Carolina Waste Disposal

Anneliese Roeschlein Keith, 74, wife of Stonie Keith of 1111 Meansville Road, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at 2:14 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Keith was born in Munich, Germany, on Aug. 31, 1929, a daughter of the late Karl and Elizabeth Huber Roeschlein.

She was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, the Jim Smith Sunday School Class, also a member of the Union County Cattlemen's Association, the Woodmen of the World and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Union County Soil, Water, Conservation District. Mrs. Keith was retired co-owner of Carolina Waste Disposal Co. and was an active cattle farmer.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters and son-in-law, Hermine Keith-Charles and her husband, Dr. Allen Charles of Pacolet, Regina Fain of Union and Heide Marie Keith of Duncan; four grandchildren, Julie Louris of Minneapolis, Minn., Chris Frabotta of Wilmington, N.C., Micheal Frabotta of Gainesville, Fla., and Jennifer Carter of Duncan; and two great-grandsons, Henry Louris and Justin Carter.

Mrs. Keith was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lisa Jill Jackson, a brother, Roman Roeschlein and a son-in-law, Mickuel Fain. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted the Rev. Benny Green and the Rev. Jerry Clevenger. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service. Memorials may be made to Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C. 29379; or to the Gibbs Cancer Center, Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303 or to the Brain Tumor Center, Duke University Medical Center, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, N.C. 27710. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Duncan S. Felder Sr.
Winthrop College graduate

Mary Allen Stone Felder, of 102 E. South St., widow of Dr. Duncan Stokes Felder Sr., died at her residence Oct. 17, 2002. Mrs. Felder was born in Union on May 20, 1917, a daughter of the late Elbert Watson (E.W.) Stone and Susan Allen Leake Stone. She was a graduate of Winthrop College. Mrs. Felder was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and a member of the Virginia Heath Bible Class.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Ed Godshall and Mary Connor Johns all of Atlanta, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Elbert Stone Felder and Karen Felder of Greenville; a brother, Elbert Stone of the home; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Felder was predeceased by a son, Duncan Stokes Felder Jr. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gary Byrd.

The family will be at the home, 102 E. South St., Union. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 446, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Willie B. Washington
Homemaker

JONESVILLE - Willie B. Means Washington, 80, of 111 Shady St., Jonesville, widow of Uflious Washing-ton, died Oct. 17, 2002, at her residence after a brief illness. She was born in Union County on May 1, 1922, a daughter of the late James Means Sr. and Carrie Talley Means. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Genell Reid of Chicago, Ill. and Jettie Smith of Jonesville; four sons, Jimmy L. Means and Eugene Eison both of Jonesville, Roscoe Means of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Denorris Washington of Union; two sisters, Flora Mae Means and Georgia Smith both of Gastonia, N.C.; 30 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in the Kelton Community with the Rev. James E. Tillotson officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 12 p.m. Monday to await the hour of service. Viewing and visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Monday from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. The family is at the home, 111 Shady St., Jonesville. The Carolina Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Willie Mae Young

Willie Mae Young, of 113 Calhoun St., died Oct. 17, 2002, in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Carolina Mortuary.

Thomas L. Estes Jr.
World War II veteran

Thomas Lemuel (Tom) Estes, Jr., 89, of Frampton Hall, 307 N. Broad St., Clinton, formerly of 111 Douglas Heights, Union, widower of Margaret Steele (Steelie) Estes, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, in Laurens County Hospital in Clinton. Mr. Estes was born in Union on Dec. 22, 1913, a son of the late Thomas Lemuel Estes, Sr., and Allie Kerr Estes.

He was a member and Elder Emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Estes as a graduate of Union High School and Presbyterian College where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Fraternity and was a member of the Scotsman's Club and until recently, served on the Board of Visitors for Presbyterian College. He was an active member of the Union Lions Club for over 50 years and was awarded Lion of the Year. Mr. Estes was a veteran of World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army and was former owner of Gulf Oil Distributors of Union.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret E. and Bryan McCanless of Greenville; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas L. Estes III and Sue Estes of Saginaw, Mich., three grandchildren, Dr. Sam Estes of Lansing, Mich., Kelly Estes of Traverse City, Mich. and Sara Margaret Fleming of Greenville; five great-grandchildren, Samantha Estes, Sydney Estes, Allie Estes, Carley Fleming and Hunter Fleming.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Charlie Horne, the Rev. Dr. Walter Hickman and the Rev. Kim Olson. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Robert Guess, Marvin Bettis, Gene Logan, J.C. Winburn, Bill Stoddard and Clark Perrin.

The following are asked to assemble at the church Sunday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Members of the Young Men's Sunday School Class of First Presbyterian Church and nurses and residents of Frampton Hall. The family will receive friends in the parlor of the First Presbyterian Church Sunday immediately following the committal service.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 672, Union, S.C. 29379; or the Presbyterian Home, 307 N. Broad St., Clinton, S.C. 29395; or to Presbyterian College, P.O. Box 975, Clinton, S.C. 29325. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

J. and Mary Scales, Pete and Aileen Quinn, Oscar and Mary Alice Dawkins, Maxie and Mary Murphy, and Bill and Lib Black and Horace Owings.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.

Carroll L. Austin
Retired from S.C. Department of Corrections

Carroll L. Austin, 68, of 164 Airport Road, husband of Nina Mease Austin, died at his residence Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 8:30 p.m. Mr. Austin was born in Union on Feb. 22, 1935, a son of Sara Trantham Austin Belue of Union and the late William Pharr Austin. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Mr. Austin was a graduate of Union High School and was retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections, Cross Anchor Division. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Carolyn A. Yarborough of Union and Twyla A. Proctor of Jonesville; a step-daughter, Sheila Bailey of Duncan; a sister, LaRue Austin Dill of Spartanburg; a half-brother, William F. Austin of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Austin was predeceased by a son, Aaron Blake Austin and a granddaughter, Dennie Arrington Lawson. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Barbara Jean Jones
Monarch Mill retiree

Barbara Jean Gray (Coot) Jones, 50, of 176 Mandy Lane, wife of Cleo Jones, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, in Spartanburg Regional Medial Center. Mrs. Jones was born in Union County on Jan.16, 1953, a daughter of the late Colie and Josephine Johnson Gray. She was a member of Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Church; Smalls Inspirational Choir and the Usher Board. She was retired from Monarch Mill.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Anthony Jones of Carlisle and Cleo Jones Jr. and Reginald Jones, both of the home; three brothers, Robert (Patricia) Gray; Bobby (Marie) Gray and Darrel (Carolyn) Gray, all of Union; three sisters, Shirley Hunter Gray, Debra Gray and Jo Ann (Earl) Johnson, all of Union. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Colie Gray Jr. and Nancy Ann Jeter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Wednesday at Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Church by the Rev. James Johnson, the Rev. John Wilson, the Rev. Courtney Mills and the Rev. Rubin Smalls. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the home, 176 Mandy Lane, Tuesday evening. Public viewing will be Tuesday from 1 until 7 p.m. The Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ray R. Millwood Sr.
Retired from Buffalo Mill

Ray Rufus Millwood, Sr., 79, of 213 South St., Buffalo, widower of Bessie Austin Millwood, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 1:15 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Millwood was born in Union County on Aug. 7, 1924, a son of the late Ollie and Nancy Caroline Varner Millwood. He formerly attended Greater Union Church and was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Donnie Boulware of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray Millwood Jr., and wife, Nancy, Millwood and Jody Millwood and wife Patti Millwood, all of Union; a sister, Doris Todd of Chadburn, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Drake Millwood, Michael Millwood and Brian Millwood, all of Union; Eric Millwood of Gaffney, Heath Millwood of Montana, Jeffery Millwood, Traci Millwood, Shellie Blalock and Walker Blalock, all of Buffalo and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Millwood was predeceased by a brother, Lloyd Millwood. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Ricky Cook. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Carroll Austin, Robert Austin, Donnie Sumner, Harold Coleman, Daniel Todd and Lee Austin. The body is at the home of his son, Ray Millwood Jr., 100 Third Ave., Union, where it will remain until the hour of service. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
