PERRY, Lionel
HEMINGWAY, S.C. - Lionel Branton Perry, 80, died Monday, May 6, 2002 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Perry was born in Hemingway, a son of the late Rev. Grady Perry and the late Meddie Altman Perry. He was a retired farmer and painter, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, a member of the Outland Church of God and attended Muddy Creek schools. Surviving are his wife, Juanita Richardson Perry of the home; two sons, Dennis R. (Patti) Perry and Darrell L. Perry both of Hemingway; two grandsons, Doni L. (Joni) Perry and Nathan Lionel Perry both of Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughter, Brandy D. Perry of Hemingway; three brothers, Russell Perry of Johnsonville, Winston Perry of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and Clinton Perry of Hemingway; five sisters, Erma Marsh of Statesville, N.C., Fairy Gregory of Durham, N.C., Shirley McBurnett of Summerville, S.C., Velma Miller of Garden City, S.C. and Theora Venters of Johnsonville.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the MORRIS FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL with burial in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

WATSON, Jr., Robert
Robert E. "Rob" Watson, Jr., 28, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Pinopolis, S.C., a student at Louisiana State University pursuing his doctorate in Environmental Engineering, died Friday at his residence.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner with Dr. Hal West and Rev. Mickey White, officiating. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be in St. John's Baptist Church cemetery, Pinopolis.
Mr. Watson was born September 10, 1973 at Berkeley County, S.C., a son of Robert E. "Butch" Watson, Sr. and Betty Robuck Watson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner. He was an avid sportsman. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he played baseball from 1992-1996. Rob's wife, Erin, also a student at Louisiana State University, is pursuing her doctorate in forensic pathology.
Surviving are his wife, Erin Grindley Watson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; parents, Robert E. "Butch" Watson, Sr. and Betty Robuck Watson of Pinopolis; brother, Marty Watson of Columbia; two sisters, Erin W. Cohen of Mt. Pleasant, Ginny A. Watson of Pinopolis; paternal grandmother, Mrs. T.M. Watson of Pinopolis; maternal grandmother, Mrs. John F. Robuck of Moncks Corner; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Philip and Marilyn Grindley of Kirkland, Washington.

Mr. McKelvie was born April 20, 1953 in Bridgeport, Conn. a son of Joseph I. McKelvie, Jr. and Mrs. Joyce Williams McKelvie. He was a graduate of Bridgeport High School, Bridgeport, Conn. where he received several trophies and awards for his outstanding athletic ability. He was a member of the St. Peters A.M.E. Church of North Charleston. He was a former employee of the City of Charleston.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Joyce Williams McKelvie of North Charleston, S.C., his father, Joseph I. McKelvie, Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Young and Mrs. Dianne (William) Bennett all of North Charleston, S.C., Mrs. Kathleen E. (Gregory) Johnson of Cary, N.C., one brother, Lee M. McKelvie of North Charleston, S.C., maternal grandmother, Mrs. Pearlie Haynes of Charleston, S.C., his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Julia Bell McKelvie of Bridgeport, Conn. Norma L. Pentland, 68, of Johns Island and wife of Neil Pentland died on Sunday at her residence. Mrs. Pentland, daughter of the late Albert and Phamie Lively was born in Comer, Ga.
Mrs. Pentland is survived by her husband, Neil; 6 step-children; 9 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Services will be announced and held at a later date. BARTLES, Betty K.
Betty Grace Krempa Bartles, 89, of Charleston, formerly of Shreveport, La., and Atlanta, Ga., and widow of Henry Bartles, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, in Charleston. Mrs. Bartles was born Saturday, May 11, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Eve Krempa. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. John's Cathedral Parish in Shreveport, La., and the Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Bartles was a homemaker, a nurse and also a translator for refugees after W.W.II. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and singing in her church choir. She was predeceased by a son, the Rev. Charles A. Bartles, S.J. She is survived by her children, Irene B. Longoria and her husband Fred of Shreveport, La., John H. Barltes and his wife Barbara of Atlanta, Ga., and Mary B. Runyon and her husband William, L., Jr., of Charleston, nine grandchildren, Beth Barnes and her husband Stuart, Lee Runyon and his wife Nicole all of Charleston, Patricia B. Cooper and her husband Jack, Deborah B. Tankersly and her husband Danny, Diane B. Rutledge and her husband Michael, John H. Bartles and his wife Janet all of Atlanta, Ga., Cynthia L. GEORGETOWN - Roy Jones, 57, a retired employee with Georgetown Steel Corp., died Sunday, May 5, 2002, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at 3 p.m. in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Burial will follow under the direction of GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME.
He was born February 9, 1945, in Georgetown County, a son of the late Ernest Jones and Melvina Reeves Jones.
He was a member of Bloomingvale Pentecostal Holiness Church and enjoyed fishing as his hobby.
Surviving are, his wife, Bonnie Jones; two daughters, Josie Thames and Tracey Jones, both of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Trey and Cathryn Thames of Georgetown; two brothers, Cecil Jones and Tony Jones both of Georgetown; two sisters, Judy Jones and Joyce J. Cannon, both of Georgetown and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jean Damon Treat of Seabrook Island, died May 6, 2002, in a local hospital. She was born August 20, 1927, in Greenwood, S.C., the daughter of Brett Ayers and Kathleen Warren Ayers.
She was active in civic affairs, having served as a Red Cross volunteer at the Charleston Naval Hospital, past president of the Charleston Lions Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Citadel Faculty Wives Club and Citadel Military Wives Club. She was a former member of Charleston Country Club and present member of Seabrook Island Club. She had a passion for traveling.
She attended Greenwood High School, George Washington University and studied at the University of Naples, Italy.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Schmutz of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Dolores Lindley of Charlotte, N.C., and Cynthia Belvin of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. L.E. Price of Greenwood, S.C.; four brothers, Sam W. Ayers of Rutherfordton, N.C., C.J. Ayers of Moncks Corner, S.C., Tom B. Ayers of Reidsville, N.C., and Joseph E. Ayers of Charleston, S.C.; step-mother, Margaret J. Ayers of Reidsville, N.C.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Commander U.S. Navy (Ret.), William Q. Damon, W.W.II and Korean War veteran and her husband, Richard Treat, U.S. Navy W.W.II, Bomber Pilot.
