MORRIS, Lenard
Lenard Morris, of Olar, S.C., husband of the late Idalia Morris, died May 5, 2002, 4:30 a.m., at Providence Hospital, Columbia, S.C.
Born March 1, 1926, in Bamberg County, he was the son of the late David Morris and the late Mother Orena Croft Morris. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Olar. He retired from the Kearse Mfg. Plant. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at 3 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Olar, S.C. Officiated by Rev. George Stockman.
Survivors include, two sons, Dennis Lenard Morris of Charleston, Terry Wayne Morris of Cottageville, S.C.; two step-sons, Richard Peoples of Johns Island, Tim Kinard of Ulmer, S.C.; one step-daughter, Betty Padgett of Ruffin, S.C.; two sisters, Gaynelle Hudson of Charleston, S.C., Jessie Ruth Graham of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, May 6, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m., at COONER FUNERAL HOME. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m., Tuesday.

GRYDER, Shirley
Mrs. Shirley Morris Gryder, 66, of Mint Hill, N.C., died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews, after a sudden cardiac event.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at McEwen Funeral Service on Matthews-Mint Road. The funeral will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at McEwen Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, Lawyers Road, Mint Hill.
Shirl was raised in South Carolina; lived in New Orleans, La., for an extended period of time; then in Streetsboro, Ohio, before moving to the Charlotte area. She was employed by MAI, Atlas Marketing Specialists and Marketing Specialists, food brokerage firms. Shirl was a member of Beta Sigma Phi social sorority and Parents Without Partners.
Survivors include her husband, Mel Gryder; daughter, Beth Toups (Andre') of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter, Dawn Wheeler (Grant), of Cortland, Ohio; son, David Schoenbrun of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandchildren, Chad and Dionne Toups, Paige and Colin Wheeler and Mitchell Schoenbrun. Her children's father is Donald Schoenbrun of New Orleans, La.; her sister, Martha Lee Buff of Salisbury, N.C.; her aunt, Thelma LaRoche of Charleston, S.C.; and cousins, Bobby LaRoche and Sharon Whaley, also survive her. Shirl is the daughter-in-law of James and Edna Gryder of Salisbury, N.C.

HARTWIG, Katie
Katie Oexner Hartwig, 98, of Charleston, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at a local nursing center.
She was born in Germany and was a longtime Florida resident before moving to Charleston in 1986. Her parents were Edward and Katherine Oexner. She was a retired companion and caretaker and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Katie was predeceased by husband Fritz Hartwig. She will be sadly missed by two sisters, Elisabeth Heider of Charleston, Lucie Oexner of Germany, two nieces, Catherine Flatley of Charleston, Anna Hacker of Germany, a nephew, George Heider of New Jersey, and several grand-nieces including, Cathy Rowland and Elizabeth Taylor, both of Charleston. Ms. Nellie Ruth Watts Wherry of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. died Friday, May 3, 2002 at Charleston Nursing and Rehab Center. Wife of the late James Vernon Wherry, she was born in Clinton, S.C. and was the daughter of J.L.E. and Sophronia Wix Watts. A homemaker, she was a member of Brandon Baptist Church for the past 80 years. Ms. Wherry is survived by a daughter, Kirstene Wherry Rucker of Mount Pleasant, S.C., a granddaughter, Pamela Kirstene Bolin of Ocala, Fla. and two great-granddaughters, Bailee Anne Bolin and Meghan Deanne Bolin.
