Richard "Lil Rick" A. Burbage, Jr., 24, of Ladson, SC died Monday, April 29, 2002 at a local hospital.
The funeral will be held at Parks Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday afternoon, May 2, 2002 at 3 o'clock. Burial will be at Summerville cemetery. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home, this Wednesday evening from 6-9 PM.
Mr. Burbage was born November 12, 1977 in Charleston, SC, a son Richard A. Burbage, Sr. and Brenda Scott Burbage. He was a graduate of Stratford High School. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his parents, Richard A. Burbage, Sr. and Brenday Scott Burbage of Ladson, SC; a brother, Cory A. Burbage of Ladson, SC; Maternal grandmother, Alma Scott of Ladson, SC and Paternal grandmother, Louise Burbage of Summerville, SC. He was pre-deceased by his grandfathers, Arthur Scott and Cornelius Burbage.

MULLINS, Mary Beth
Mary Beth Mullins, 59, of Ridgeville, wife of Thomas L. Mullins, died Monday evening in a North Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 o'clock in James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will be private.
Friends may call the funeral home from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.
Mrs. Mullins was born on October 26, 1942, in Toccoa, Ga., a daughter of the late William Floyd Stephens and Thelma Cheek Stephens.
She attended schools in Baltimore, Md. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Surviving are, her husband of Ridgeville; two sons, Mark A. Mullins of Moncks Corner, James D. Mullins of Goose Creek; one daughter, Sheila Moseley of Statesboro, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and three sisters.

MILLER, Landon
Landon "Pop" Miller, 71, of Summerville, husband of Dorothy Collins Miller, died Monday in a North Charleston hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville. Funeral services and burial will be private.

Mr. Miller was born on June 3, 1930, in Elizabethton, Tenn., a son of the late John Henry Miller and Millie Smith Miller. He attended schools of Tennessee. He was a retired truck driver with Bulldog Highway Express and he was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are, his wife of Summerville; two daughters, Carolyn Kealey of Summerville, Rebecca Kennedy of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren, Rebecca Robertson of Virginia Beach, Va., Brian and John Kealey of Summerville, Christina and Landon Kennedy of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Helen Cundiff of Louisville, Ky.; one niece, Georgie Mae Cole of Louisville, Ky.

CORDLE, Frank
Frank Cordle, 78, died peacefully on the morning of Monday, April 29, 2002 in a Charleston hospital. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 o’clock Thursday, May 2, 2002 in Christ Episcopal Church (The Historic Church), Highway 17N, Mt. Pleasant. Following the service, a celebration of his life will take place for friends and family at his home. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Frank was born in Lindale, GA to the late Frank and Ruby Johnson Cordle. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers in both European and Philippine Theaters during WWII and continued his service with the Army Reserve until retirement.
Frank received a B.S. and M.S. degree in Microbiology from the University of Florida and a Masters in Public Health and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
He was formerly an Associate Professor of Bacteriology, Medical University of South Carolina. He later taught epidemiology and conducted public health studies as a research associate at University of North Carolina. He had served as Assistance Chief Medical Examiner of the State of North Carolina.
Frank retired from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration after 13 years as Chief of Epidemiology and Clinical Toxicology in the Bureau of Foods in Washington, DC. Concurrently, he was Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the University of South Carolina.
Among his many scientific contributions, in South Carolina, he was instrumental in the development of the Microbiology Laboratory at MUSC and participated in the initiation of epidemiology studies in the counties of South Carolina. At FDA in Washington, he continued his devotion to the protection of public health with focus on food safety. His leadership and scientific advisory role resulted in many significant FDA policy decisions protecting our nation’s food.
Frank symbolized that which is good and just and was the Patriarch of his family. He was a pillar of silent strength and sought to guide and instill a love of learning wherever possible. He will besorely missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maryln King Cordle, his four daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine (Dean) Schorkley of Tampa, FL, Margaret (Ralph) Jeffreys of East Helena, MT, Barbara (Brad) Ferguson of East Helena, MT, Lisa (Bob) Phillips of Homestead, FL; his two step-sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas (Karla) Perez of Damascus, MD, Scott (Teresa) Perez of Rockville, MD; eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his brothers George (Doris) Cordle of Jacksonville, NC, Jack (Sally) Cordle of Paola, KS, his sisters, Sara (Brian) Jackson and Mary Alice Wheeler, both of Charleston, SC., numerous nieces, and nephews, and friends.

She was a member of Northbridge Baptist Church. She was a graduate of St. George High School. She was a part-time substitute teacher in the Charleston County School District. She was a member of the North Charleston Junior Chamber of Jaycettes.
Surviving are her husband of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Donna Lynn Crozier of Charleston, S.C.; one son, Billy K. Hudson of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Hellen Berry of St. George, S.C.; three granddaughters, Lisa McMillan, Kimberly Charlton, and Jennifer Ryan Hudson of Charleston, S.C.

Mrs. Annie Lee Keels Fowler, 85, widow of Marion S. Fowler, Sr., died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at her residence after an illness.
Mrs. Fowler was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Robert M. and Irene English Keels, and she was the niece of the late Bessie Whitehead Truluck. She was a homemaker and member of Lake City First Baptist Church.
Survivors include, one son, Marion S. Fowler, Jr., M.D. of Lake City; one grandson, Marion S. Fowler, III, M.D.J.D. of Lake City; two granddaughters, Lee Ann F. Bundrick and Sarah F. Braga, both of Columbia; four great-grandsons, Marion S. Fowler, IV and Brett B. Fowler, both of Lake City, Tyler Bundrick and Burch Bundrick, both of Columbia; and one sister, Ada W. Calcutt of Florence.
Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in the Lake City cemetery.

KERSEY, Gertrude
NIXVILLE - Mrs. Gertrude Ginn Jarrell Kersey, 76, of 1923 Turner Expressway in Nixville, died Monday evening at her residence after an extended illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1925 in Hampton County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Ginn, Sr. and Arizona Ginn. Mrs. Kersey had retired from the Allendale Garment Plant as a seamstress and later did in-home nursing. She was a member of the Nixville Baptist Church. She was the widow of James Wesley Jarrell, Sr. and Paul Kersey and was predeceased by one son, David F. Jarrell, one sister, Eunice Ginn Winn and three brothers, Frank Ginn, Jr., Freddie Ginn and William Ginn.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James Wesley Jarrell, Jr. and wife Carolyn, Danny Hugh Jarrell and wife Georgia Ann, John Charles Jarrell and wife Gay, all of Nixville; daughter, Evelyn Jarrell Tant of Nixville and daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jarrell Hadwin and husband Jerry of Hampton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Coleman and Betty Ginn, Herman and Marie Ann Ginn, Benjamin and Elaine Ginn; sisters, Eloise Ginn, Joyce Ginn and Elaine Ginn Cooler and sister brother-in-law, Julia Ginn Tant and her husband Bobby; 14 grandchildren, Rebecca Jarrell Smith, Diane Jarrell Malphrus, Pat Tant, Detra Tant Loadholt, Billy Tant, David Tant, Wes Jerrell, Tammy Jarrell Harvey, Pam Jarrell Moore, Hope Hadwin Macfie, Chris Hadwin, Liz Jarrell, Karen Jarrell and Nickie Jarrell. There are 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Nixville Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Jimmie Rholleter and Rev. Bob Johnson and directed by PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME OF HAMPTON. Burial will follow in Ginn cemetery.
Friends may call at the residence at 1923 Turner Expressway in Nixville after 2 p.m. on Wednesday and until the hour of services on Thursday.
